Kettle wasnt terrible today. He had a very easy afternoon, still managed to get a few cards out for some innocuous stuff but there wasnt really anything for him to get horribly wrong today. Thank fuck.

A mention for todays ref Ollie Yates Orient v Walsall, failed to give us numerous free kicks in the first half and gave similar types of soft fouls to Walsall. Second half he seemed to get into both sets of players heads with again some very bizzare decisions going both ways, which contributed to an overall dull game.

You know its bad when teh ref is being talked about at the end of the game.

Our ref was disgraceful today.

The penalty he gave FGR was just the cherry on top of an abhorrent performance. In the first half, FGR's number 18 forced our captain off with an injury because he elbowed him in the eye and we didn't even get a free kick for that. He constantly let Jamille Matt ref the game and scream in his face, he warned their keeper for time wasting and then proceeded to let him do keepy uppies next goal kick. He seemed intimidated by the FGR players who would shout at him and surround him after every decision, just had zero control on the game.

Our referee was ok today, let the game flow and seemed fairly lenient. Ollie Banks probably should have got sent off for a kick out on Conlon but got a yellow and got away with a couple of more fouls before being taken off but was fair with both sides I thought.

Some referees would have blown up for a foul in the build up to our second too, a 50-50 decision so can’t complain too much.

Agree referee did not have best of games. 10 cards showed he lost control. Bad news about your captain and I certainly hope he is okay for next game. Possibly referee did not award a card because it was not a foul. Remember he is closer to the action than any supporter.
Where I got a bit frustrated with that ref was his insistence of throw-in being taken from exact spot ball went out of play. Other refs give a bit of latitude in order to keep the game flowing.
He also stopped play when foul committed even though the fouled team had possession of ball and thus constantly prevented interesting attacks.
And of course the ball had to be placed at exact spot of any foul.

That means he was on your side then... your opponents probably thought he was dreadful.

Mr Declan Bourne strikes again. Ridiculous penalty.

Just watched the highlights of game and it is impossible to judge whether penalty was unjustified. There are too many legs between ball and camera to make a considered decision.
I was sitting only a few yards away but saw Matt's immediate reaction that indicated he had been fouled.

I know we're all biased towards our club but surely you're having me on here.

You can see our defender win the ball from every single angle, none of your players even appeal for it which says a lot

TBF don't they all do that if they feel there is a foul...

Give over, never a pen in a million years, Matt is a good player but also a very bad cheat.

This was one of the many things Bourne shafted us with away at Salford, we had a foul and he waved play on advantage, then he waited until Clifton was clean through and about to shoot for 2-0 and he blew up and brought back play for the original foul beat the halfway line.

We’ve got the pleasure of Mr Bourne at Harrogate on Tuesday. He did our game at Colchester last season, where we drew from 2 goals down, gave us a penalty which appeared the right decision and didn’t do anything remarkable otherwise. Hope we get that version again.

Would be very interested to hear Newports take on it. He didnt give us much but I'm not that biased about refs actually.

I thought Mr Bourne was fine, did the job he was paid to do…

Jamille Matt is not a cheat btw, he’s a bit like a league 2 Harry Kane though in that most refs look up to him and they work together to officiate the game. If he asks for a pen he gets it.

Hang on, I was there only yards from incident.
I doubt if you were.
Impossible to retrospectively prove whether penalty or not just by video footage.

Nobody is calling Matt a cheat for the penalty, he didn't dive. It was a cracking recovery tackle from our defender where he gets the ball, Matt didn't even appeal for it.

It's the way he jumps into defenders after they've already won the header that makes him a shithouse, his elbow into the back of Tom Pugh's head and then trying to goad him also makes him a shithouse. I can't believe he wasn't sent off for an accumulation of things. He's not a diver, that's Ebou Adams' thing.

I could find loads of clips of Matt not diving tbf. That means his not cheating:cheating ratio is pretty low so he must officially not be a cheat. I agree he puts himself about a bit, but that’s what you want from a 6ft4 League 2 striker isn’t it? He gets a fair bit back in any case.

Ebou on the other hand I agree he dives a lot, often embarrassingly although he does get some pretty rough treatment at times too.

Ive seen matt twice this season - our game and the swindon tv one. he lost his head in both and seemed like he was more focused on winning decisions than playing football.

it seemed odd for him to be captaining the team and also losing his head all the time.

Yeah tbf that’s true, there’s been a few games this season where he’s got into a bit of a scrap, got pretty wound up trying to get decisions and ended up getting booked.

Strange as off the pitch he’s very laid back and has a degree in counselling psychology!
