There are worse ones out there though, to be fair. Brett Huxtable, for example.
Don't count your chickens.
After Stockbridge today it's almost guaranteed that we'll be getting old fatty for the replay.

Welch was really good. She got a number of decisions spot on.

Meh. She’s no Bobby Madley.

Seriously though I agree, that was a great call on the (non) pen for Banbury, watching the replay Zanzala clearly got a touch on the ball.

Declan Bourne.
First half he let everything go, including Ray shoving their winger into touch and giving us a throw.
Second half he turned into Bruce Forsyth. Some utterly ridiculous cards dished out for nothing, including time wasting when Sweeney was running up to take a free kick! I don't know if he was expecting Usain Bolt.
Seems to be in keeping with refs being told to keep it flowing first half, no matter what, before dishing out a quota in the second half.

I think we saw on Sky today why these refs are in League Two and no higher

Our one today was ridiculously lenient! Bradford were very physical which is fair enough but he didn’t deal with it when they went over the mark like the second yellow.

He only gave one red last season so guess in a way it’s better to have that but against 10 men for 70 minutes it’s a different ball game and he failed to deal with it.

Don't even know who our ref was today, but never had any big decisions to make.

I'm not going to crucify the ref in our game for not sending off Threlkeld. In all honesty I never even thought more of it until saw it mentioned in the match thread on here so be a bit disingenuous to criticise now. Did seem to let a fair amount go but in fairness it was consistent for both sides at least.

Yeah usually our fans would be absolutely baying for blood like with the keeper near the end but none seemed to realise at the time! Maybe if they had it’s a different outcome but in fairness we’ve been on the right end of a couple of reds in recent weeks.

one thing ill say is the ref obviously knew it was threlkeld again and didn't even bother speaking to him. we let him get away with that. if the fans had of realised it was the same player he'd have been under immense pressure for the rest of the game.

watched the highlights of the port vale bradford game, how was that therlkeld not sent off for bradford, that was obviously a 2nd yellow.

poor referring there, there’s no excuses for getting something so simple wrong

Appreciate it’s probably been done to death, but that’s a red

Guy on Quest was trying to suggest Bradford could have had 2 sent off.

Obviously the player in the first half (reminded me of Milner v Man C a few weeks back ) and another for a an elbow in the 2nd.

The second one is the one Bradford fans are suggesting our lad feigned but a raise arm and blocking manoeuvre asks the question. Lloyd is tiny as well so probably did hurt!

It’s a 50-50 one… is there much difference to that and the one Rodney got a ban for a few weeks back.

If he meant it that’s a red. If he didn’t it’s a yellow but you’d question during a blocking off like that of his run why he raised his arm in the first place.

The Threlkeld one is ridiculous. Their fans were seething about an FGR decision the week before but can’t really argue that one! Probably what swayed Smiths into a yellow from a red (although was a covering man)

Maybe the TV was on his mind.

My dad is telling me that Angol is offside for the smith one, but he's insane when it comes to referees so i'd have to judge for myself

He’s a strange one. Did the NL play-off final we lost to Forest Green and seemed to have left his cards in the dressing room, but since his promotion to the FL list has turned into a card shark. Still rather him than Boyeson though.

Scott Oldham today at Carlisle v Walsall. I'm sure I've mentioned his name before (I know there's a couple of Oldhams and I can get mixed up) but I think he's been the best ref at this level for the last couple of years or how ever long he's been at this level.

Andy Haines today at Dale v Exeter.

The 33rd time he's refereed at Rochdale, which is more appearances there than all but two of our starting eleven (O'Connell and Morley).

From looking through both the Dale and Grecians match threads he wasn't mentioned, so presumably had a decent game.

We've got that Edwards fella tonight who did a piss poor job of reffing our game against Forest Green. Yay.

Quest highlights picking out the terrible refereeing in Wigan vs Ipswich today - the ref? None other than League 2's Trevor Kettle.

Just checked the appointments for the games up to NYD and we have two I`ve never heard of Paul Howard and Ross Joyce. Any body got an opinion on these 2 "gentlemen"?

Paul Howard is relatively new to the FL list and Saturday will be my first time seeing him at a game. He did the Exeter home game where he gave us 2 penalties the Exeter fans weren't happy about and Morecambe away where he gave them a penalty and sent their Songo'o off for homophobic abuse.

Ross Joyce has been around a few years. He did our home game with Swindon a few years ago where he gave them everything ; don't think he even gave a foul for the challenge that effectively ended Ishmael Miller's career and struts around the pitch full of himself. I was dreading it when he was given the L2 play-off final, but he was more even handed that day, Newport fans thought Rovers had the rub of the green then.

We had James Oldham yesterday and he had a really good game. Let the game flow and don't think he touched his whistle for the first 15 minutes. Got the big decision spot on with the red card too.

Darren Bond yesterday - didn't seem very good, was very whistle happy but only when awarding fouls to Crawley, we got very little off him. Only good thing I'd say was that he didn't book Armer for the Crawley penalty, you can see he's just late to the ball and trips the Crawley player and they're going away from goal but the attacker really made a meal of it, I think he might even still be rolling around on the Brunton Park pitch this morning, and on another day could have gotten Armer sent off.

We had ross joyce.

He overall had a poor game, missed some really obvious challenges, and tended to give pretty much every 50/50 decision to walsall while also giving them free kicks for things he didn’t give to us.

We won despite him

Andy Haines got the biggest decision to make in our game right after working in conjunction with his assistants. Can't knock it really. I'm sure there may have been minor things he probably got wrong but ultimately nothing of consequence and certainly his performance didn't influence the result.

Craig Hicks was ridiculous yesterday. So many fouls which should have been yellows that were not even given.

To make matters worse whenever there was a clear advantage to be played he would stop the game and pull it back.

Absolute clown.

Can’t argue with that. Felt for him as he was booed off at half time which turned out as fans saw the clips at half time to be unfair.

He did get a lot of minor decisions wrong and not playing the advantage was very infuriating, however he didn't have too much to do in terms of big, game changing decisions.
