I guess it depends on what you want from this season. If staying up and reclaiming our spot in 22nd is the target then it is a good point. If that is all we are about this year then we may as well start preparing ourselves for our inevitable return back down to non-league at some point.

Sounds like Allen is repeating mistakes he made with us. Won the league and then had a brain meltdown in the summer following it, signed mostly garbage (Antonio German anyone?) and we only stayed up because we got rid early enough in the season.

Sounds like it to me.

Sounds uncomfortably similar.

Out of interest, what percentage of your fans where still behind him at the point he left? In a poll on our forum, 60% are still behind him, but a lot of that seems to stem from him building up credit for promotion from last year.

He went at a slightly odd time just after our first two wins of the season, but prior to that we were winless and pretty hopeless so there was quite a bit of pressure on Scally to do something. I think we all wanted him to succeed though, he was never disliked or anything.

I had a great time when Allen was gaffer at the Gills. He just knew had to get the fans onside.
For me he was largely responsible for bringing the fans and the players back together after a real apathy had crept in to all aspects of the club.
I will always be grateful to Allen for that.
It wasn't just football reasons for him leaving us though. He had upset a lot of senior people at the club and something had to give.
