If memory serves me right but I seem to remember that 2 years ago at about same stage of season FGR secured an away win at Prenton Park when FGR were 1st and Tranmere 2nd in table.
That win helped FGR win title while Tranmere dropped out of promotion zone.
This season same two clubs are competing against each other to avoid relegation.
Ain't football strange.
Hah, just referenced that on the away support thread before coming here and reading your post. We really are in the mire and trouble is it's the state of the club, so not sure what's going to change it, sacking the manager or a good Jan window won't if the regime carries on as it is.

Tbf, we are only 14 off. Still 90 points to play for, so entirely possible we could also still have a big say in the promotion race. We are technically defending Champions after all.
FGR - Grimsby play off final just like the good old days Chris.

At the moment you would have to think it will be two from ourselves, Sutton, Tranmere, Grimsby and Newport...although others are more than welcome to join us. When we played Colchester I would have included them but they have since hit a bit of form and sailed off up to mid-table mediocrity...somewhere that the rest of us probably dream about. If my thoughts are about right it will make the games between us even more important, pity about the game yesterday as I was hoping we might scrape a point and set us up for the visit of the fishy people next Saturday...oh well!

PS: If anyone from Grimsby has a beach ball can they please bring it, if nothing more than to give us a laugh and wind up our stewards.
Colchester do this every season, then soon they will hit another slump and drop to within a point or two of the relegation zone before then winning 4 games in a row and pulling clear again.
Then rinse and repeat literally every season.

Ah yes, a yo-yo club...although that term usually applies to a team who go up and down between divisions with unerring regularity...not the situation you describe where they stay in the same division!

Their poor fans must be feeling sea sick.

The timing of that game was later in the season but it did effectively kill off our prospects and cement FGR promotion

I went for Sutton and Just Stop Oil Rovers for relegation before the start of the season, and I'm sorry to say to fans of those clubs, I think I will be right.

Despite our current sticky run, there is no way Bradford City will be involved.

I can see Newport being involved in a three way battle to stay up though

despite the fact that we turned you over (again) at the weekend there was enough on show that you'll be no where near the bottom at the end of the season. A bit of luck and belief and you'll be mid-table in no time.

Thought we'd hit rock bottom, then I read this.

I’m sure a lot was tongue in cheek.....because we deffo were second best that day and got a lucky win......no way will you be lower than top 10 come end of season.

Partly yes but also if they get mid table in no time then that doesn't preclude a play off push...

Harrogate currently 16th in table and 9pts distant from Relegation drop are surprisingly one of the Bookies favourite to struggle by season end.
I'd put Colchester & / or Grimsby more at risk.
Also Tranmere are inching out of trouble.

Harrogate will be fine. Even if they weren't, Weaver wouldn't be in trouble. Everyone knows he has the CUSHIEST job in world football.

Adkins seems to have us playing a way that suits the players now. 4 unbeaten, and 2 of them we could easily have won.

I think we will start to rise up the table now, and im confident we'll have a go in January to strengthen.

Back to back wins has seen us climb away from trouble and beating FG has probably left people wondering what the fuss was about, but no mistake about it had we lost them two we’d have been in the shit. Hopefully we’ve now turned a corner though and can look up not down.

Colchester could low key be in trouble. They shouldn't be with the young talent they've got in the squad, but they simply can't pull consistent results together. The decision to appoint Etherington looks very rushed, much like Morecambe's decision to appoint Brannan.

FGR surely have to pull the "sack the manager" card out soon? About the only thing they've got left to play. Vince really is clueless. 3 managers hired since Edwards left and they've all been a disaster.

We are not even halfway yet.
Some clubs that seem safe will be dragged in and some that look in trouble may well find some form
I seem to remember Barnsley being in the relegation zone at Christmas and getting promoted via the play offs.

Are Walsall going Barrow like under the radar here? Their form is woeful. Another who will be looking for a new manager again soon?

Can we see Morecambe spiralling downwards after loss of manager?

Fair point, but last season after 20 games, Hartlepool and Rochdale were both in the bottom 4 and went down. After 20 games the season before, the bottom 2 were Oldham and Scunthorpe.

Ok, maybe there isn't basket cases like them in the league this time and you're right, teams will improve and move away or the opposite.

But after 20 games you can some even a initial picture of how the relegation battle is shaping up.

After 20 games last season we were gone. Couldn't buy a goal let alone a win. Everything changed in the week before Christmas and we ended up in an incredibly boring mid-table slot.

Well yes, but that was because of your takeover and sudden injection of funds. Not exactly a scenario we could have foreseen.

I don't see the teams at the bottom currently undergoing such a dramatic a change off the pitch as you did.

Well exactly my point, we didn't see it coming and nor did anyone else. So who knows if something similar couldn't happen to one of the sides in the lower reaches this year. I'm not sure a lot of people realise just how in the shit we were at this point 12 months ago - on course for Scunthorpe levels of nonsense.

Horseman needs to be put out of his misery, if he isn't then we will have no chance. Good bloke (although a bit deluded), but a useless manager.

Total joke that we're in a position where we need to sack a 3rd manager in less then 11 months.
