Not sure how to feel to be honest, seems a good manager, and let's face it, surely he can't do worse than our past 3 managers? Kinda apathetic to this, as I was about the Sherwood appointment, glad we've taken a different approach though and moved away from our 'Premier League experience only' approach because, as we've seen, that worked wonderfully.

Hopefully he brings some optimism to Villa Park, because god knows we fucking need some.

"Remi Garde set to be sacked by Villa"

Headline in a few months when he too can't get shit to shine.

Risky appointment by Villa.

Great if it comes off - but I don't see what he's done so far in his career as anything spectacular. Pearson would have been a safer bet in my eyes.

No disrespect to Villa, but look at the position they're in. They're bottom of the league 5 points from safety, their form over the last 12 months is a joke, and the owner wants out. Managers who have the spectacular under their belts won't want to go there. This is a decent appointment all things considered.

No Premier League experience, not done much for a couple of years and Lyon were always strong in France. 3 and a half year deal? Will he work in the Championship when/if Villa get relegated (more a when this season, than if) - this just seems like another strange appointment and not what's needed for Villa currently.

I expect to see them in the Championship next season (sadly).

Unfortunately, that was highly likely to be the case regardless of who they got in.

Who would have been a better option and would have realistically gone there under the circumstances? In terms of managers with Premier experience and out of work currently? I heard Rodgers ruled himself out, although how accurate that is I'm unsure.

Realistically, is the tough part.

Pearson? Thinking outside the box perhaps it would have been good to get someone like Curbishley in? He said that he had a meeting with Randy Lerner before they hired Paul Lambert so there is a history. I didn't think Rodgers wanted it, he needs a job that's not quite as risky as the Villa job currently, because if he didn't save them he's effectively been a big failure twice in a row. Villa actually in hindsight were either A) A little unfortunate, or B) Should have acted quicker because Allardyce would have been perfect for them for what they are now.

I agree on Allardyce, I was pissed when Sunderland got him, as he would have saved us.

Join the club regarding the Championship, and if we're ultimately relegated, I think Garde will also lose his job.The most logic I can place to this appointment is that we're hoping he can get our French influx working.

Might be able to communicate with their French players better of course but needs to get off to a quick start.

Ah, the infamous Villa media department strikes again. The same ones who had Delph pledge his loyalty to us (TWICE) before he left. Gotta love 'em, eh?

He took a rubbish penalty in an FA Cup shootout at Upton Park in 1998.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Here's an idea for a sweepstake.
What will get booed most. The CL Anthem on Tuesday night or Delph if he's fit enough to be involved at the weekend.

Why are you 'sad' about it? It's about time they came down, they have been riding their luck for years and deserve to be relegated.

Most of my family support them and as a kid, I went down Villa Park quite a few times with my then step-dad. Obviously those days are long gone now, but they are still a huge club that should really be in a better position than they are. All this biggest team in the midlands stuff makes me laugh from the likes of Wolves, Leicester, WBA, Stoke etc. Aston Villa will always have the best history, the biggest fanbase and stature amongst any team, anywhere in the Midlands - that is a fact.

That's not aimed at you personally btw, just going off what I've been hearing in the last couple of years since the decline at Villa on the pitch happened.

Not really fair I suppose as Villa are at home...

It would be fucking funny if he came off the bench and scored the winner, though.

With Walsall looking good for promotion, I would have thought you would be looking forward to a trip to Villa Park. Walsall haven't played Villa in the league or cup since '72.

Yet if a Villa fan comes back with this argument, we've living in the past and always go on about our history...

You'll probably get a few arsenal players eventually, he's still good mates with the boss. Hope you like Sczeszney.

Good move imo. They're all playing in England, and therefore should be making an effort to learn English and speak it in the dressing room. Will make it easier for all the players to build a better understanding. Gabby might finally learn English too.

Aston Villa lost 3-0 to the Aston Villa U21 development team in a friendly at the club's training ground last week. Oh me, oh my.
