Question 1: What is this Respected Members thing?
Question 2: Why am I considered a respected member? (Not asking for it to be revoked)

1. Respected members are members with more than 50 posts and in excess of 10 likes.
2. For the aforementioned reasons.

Over the coming days the ads displayed will be increased for users with less than 50 posts, and decreased for members who quality for the 'Respected' upgrade. Essentially we are encouraging more engagement and rewarding members who keep coming back. For any active user of the website this will result in less advertisements than they see now. (Supporters will continue to see none).

I'll create a thread shortly once me and Saddlerrad draw up the specifics.

Happy to hear suggestions on what it should be set at if the community has a different opinion. Perhaps 100?

I'd say a few hundred posts and 25ish likes. Up to you.

My personal opinion would be 1000 posts 100 likes

I was thinking something like that too, but lowered my suggestion.

personally i feel respected members are intelligent members, maybe those who have placed in the annual 'most intelligent posters' award

Can the banner be a more attractive colour? I don't much care for MUSTARD

Also, there are some prolific posters who appear not to be "respected" :dk:

I receive adverts still on the bottom of the box for example yet I am a supporter?

Can't imagine how galling it must be for those guys to find out that hbk4894 is supposedly held in higher regard than them
I was going to post something similar in here. I woke up this morning at the crack of dawn and saw the banner "respected member" against my name. I was all agog. I then saw our friend HBK had the same and my heart sank.

The lords of the forum giveth and they taketh away.

Must admit, scrolling through a thread and seeing that mustard colour on nearly every post is a little annoying.

Is there not a more subtle way, maybe replace where it says 'well-known member' perhaps?

Edit: Just realised people can edit that themselves.

I genuinely respect hbk4894 more than most members. In fact, I think we should be pushing for him to have his own special user title.

Have I go this right? Current hierarchy by postings seems to be:
  • New Member
  • Member
  • Active Member
  • Respected Member
  • Well Known Member
Staff and Site Supporters bypass this euphemism laden hierarchy?

It's probably a bit late to be dropping the "member" label but I certainly feel that some deserve it more than others and it has little to do with number of posts/likes. In some cases it is the inverse.

It's a bit like the Brexit debate. You decide or aspire to be part of one group or another until you discover the tossers who have been given the same label or hold the same view.

Ultimately, the only reason this has been introduced is so the site can generate income to fund costs from guests and low posters, whilst rewarding the people who visit the site regularly and generate new content by not irritating them with obtrusive ads.

We could make it so these changes aren't visible in terms of banners & titles- and the permissions just act silently to cater ad volume depending on your activity. Would this be preferred?

I agree. I don't mind the Site Supporter icon, but the different member ones are a bit intrusive.
