We've just announced our retained list in the pre Rochdale press conference.

IN DISCUSSIONS WITH:
Jay Bird
Ben Gladwin
Cameron Jerome (He's off to the Championship though, probably Cardiff if they're still interested)
Josh McEachran
Matthew Sorinola
Andrew Surman
Laurie Walker

RELEASING:
Kieran Agard
Jordan Houghton
Joe Mason
Lee Nicholls

Then everybody else in the squad is either as things stand going back to their parent clubs or contracted for next year.

I expect us to sign Louis Thompson and we'll definitely be trying to resign Grigg as well as loan Laird back, but the latter two will be up to Sunderland and Man Utd.

Our cull could (and probably should) be brutal. The stench of failure surrounds our squad and a big overhaul is highly likely.

Generally as expected. The only surprise to me is Will Aimson, especially if we play more of a back four. We are at the same stage as last year, not having a solid defence. Much work to be done over the summer.

So yesterday brought the news of the following all being released; Chambers, Skuse, Sears, Wilson, Huws, Nydam.

1 year option taken on Jackson but only to secure fees for him this summer, he is 100% certain to leave and won't play under Cook again.

Option also taken on Donacien but again seemingly just to secure a fee this summer.

Adkins is supposed to be starting meetings with the players today so guess we’ll find out in the coming days.

Think we’ll be saying bye bye to a lot of them. Hope so anyway.

Looks like you're getting rid of some of the 30+ guys.

There was a definite shift last summer to younger squads for most and I think this season will be a similar shift for those who didn't have the wiggle room last season.

Nothing official from the club, but Luke O'Neill has announced on social media that he's leaving. No idea whether his contract hasn't been renewed or he's decided to move on.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't feel like a good time to be a 30+ pro footballer at the minute.

Karl Robinson sounded confident that the 20 man squad cap wouldn't be happening next season when asked directly about it. I suspect he won't be the only manager who thinks it is a bad idea and will have told their CEO/owner that. I really won't be surprised if clubs vote this down at the AGM.

The PFA suggested 25 seems like a good compromise and it is then standard across all FL divisions.

That's certainly the case. You can add Alan Judge and Stephan Ward to that list, both of whom were effectively released a couple of weeks back as they had clauses which meant a 1 year extension would have been triggered if they played 1 more game.

Think we only had two over thirties. One, McCormick has retired but will almost certainly still be registered in case we need an emergency keeper. The other, Gary Sawyer got injured in one of the cups and has had to retire. Our big problem was that we did not have enough older players, hence why we shipped goals.

Chuks Aneke hinting on social media he'll be staying at the club.

Would be happy with that as long as he plays the same role he did this season, question marks over his fitness but he can be devastating coming off the bench against tiring defences.

Suppose he could also be hinting that he's off!

Some raised eyebrows this morning. Cook has told pretty much the entire playing squad who remain under contract to find new clubs, this includes the likes of Flynn Downes, Andre Dozzell, Luke Woolfenden, Jack Lankester, Armando Dobra, Teddy Bishop, Myles Kenlock, Tomas Holy and David Cornell- plus Kayden Jackson and Toto Nsiala.

Fuck me.

We've been after Teddy Bishop on loan for a few seasons. What type of player is he? I can see us going for him.

Holy is a bloody good keeper, especially at this level. He can come home if he likes.

Trying to build some funds so he can build his own squad and start again.

No surprises really. Lancashire had done alright this season and maybe could have got a deal but I think we will see if we can improve on him. I was 50/50 on Porter he still does a job but at 37/38 it’s abit of a risk, I’d expect us to bring in another striker in case.

I’d expect everyone to sign extensions apart from Beckles and Wintle who we’ve known for a while will be leaving us this summer.

It's about time someone gave you lot a good shake-up.

I'm not 100% sure on the ability of the above players but sometimes you just need to shake-off anything to do with a previous manager who's ground the Club down.

Some of them were very highly rated not long ago and are still pretty young.

Could be some bargains to be had there with the right coaching/ set up.

Surely you would prefer a manager who will try and get them back on track rather than a full Graham Westley-esque clear out?

Darren Pratley confirms he's been released.

Been a warrior for us, shame to see him go for that but it's the right decision. Reckon he could still do a job as a bit part player for a club in the lower regions of this division or in League Two.

Astounded there are genuinely people upset about Lancashire leaving. Some of our fanbase just won't shake off the inferiority complex Davis put on the club to mask his failings. Constant moaning about budgets, always saying we can't afford League One quality when we genuinely can but then want bang average or mediocre players signed up every single season. And don't get me started on those fans who want ex players back. Byron Moore? George Ray? Do me a favour...

Think a lot of the links were due to the fact he's from the Cambridge area and was mates with a lot of the youngsters at the club. Now Darling, Knowles, Iron and a few others are gone I'm not sure he knows as many people here.

One of the closest League 1 clubs to Ipswich though so potentially we might be able to nab a couple players they don't want anymore.

I’d definitely take Woolfenden and Downes at Wednesday but I suspect they’ll be moving up the ladder?
