Always has been a very tetchy kind of bloke when things aren't going his way. How many times has he bottled it when things start getting tough? The issue is that his mentality is the same as his football. Hard working, big, strong, tough but not pretty when things aren't going well. It's hard to watch your side lose under him. He's a decent league 2 manager though.

Not surprised. Amount of budget he's had and where Cambridge are in the table make it seem fair - get someone decent in and they'll be making the play-offs I reckon.

I would hardly call his tenure a failure. He moved us 24 places up the pyramid, won the fa trophy and got us to the 4 the round of the fa cup where we drew with Man U.

But the period since the Man U tie has been very poor and with the budget we have given him I'm not surprised the board have reached this decision.

Very sad as got great memories of him and his time with us but it was clear a change was needed. Onwards and upwards.

Had to be done, unfortunately. Odd team selections and ridiculously negative second half tactics were becoming tedious, not just the fact our form has been piss poor since the Man Utd game. Not all his fault though, the experienced players we brought in just haven't been up to the standard required.

I just hope we don't get stuck with Joe Dunne, we need a huge change in the dressing room.

Firstly, money will always be ranked up there for getting us out of non lge and winning the fa trophy, I'm sure I'll speak for many u's here when I say just how thankful we are towards him, he turned us around from an awful conference side to one that got promoted in 18months, his energy and knowledge was clear to see and we played some lovely football at times.

But the last 6 months have been incredibly hard to watch, boring negative football and with the budget he's got we should be in a lot better position, personally I reckon he's fallen out with a lot of people and the jeziah has had enough of his baby antics, it had to be done.

Wish him all the best.

Does that include Roberts? Has he been pap?

What a bizarre statement. He hasn't failed here, as others have explained above, on the contrary he'll be remembered as one of our greats. Nor did he really fail at Luton (I know he's not fondly remembered there, but I wouldn't have considered it an outright "failure" given when he was sacked).

Money took us from treading water in the Conference, to promotion from it, stabilised us in the league, won the FA Trophy too. All whilst winning us fair play awards, which may not count for much, but I'm proud of it.

Alright, it's waned massively over the last 10 months, but he's not left us bottom of the league or anything like that. It may have been frustrating with his sit back mentality at times but you can only judge the man by the progress the club has made under him.

And we've made chuffing loads.

I recently commented on our MB that he screams non-league, and should be the first player out the door. THAT red card against Pompey was it for me, for a Captain to behave like that as inexcusable. He has also blamed others on numerous occasions, not the quality I want in a so-called natural leader.

Hope that answers your question.

I think being sacked is the very definition of failure in this context.

Regardless of what happened on the pitch the club needed a culture shift but he completely divided the whole club because of his outbursts instead.

Not saying JS is perfect but when presented with a similar test he managed to turn the club in his favour, Money did the opposite resulting in him being sacked. For that reason alone id definitely say his time here was a failure regardless of results.

Agree with the views of my fellow U's, and there's really nothing to add. Thank you Richard for the good times, and they truly were good times, but it was time to move on.

Best of luck for the future.

Don't think I'm trolling or anything but 54.76% for the conference and for a big side, is actually very good, when you think of how the smaller sides viewed Luton at the time. Several of these approached the games like it was their cup final, and in doing so, raised their game.

BelizeHatter - All in the Conference where we had the largest everything by miles - yes including big heads!

Edit - looks like I did something wrong and can't quote you.

54.76 win percentage at Luton.

FAILURE.

I know you are being purposely obtuse but i did stress that his failure was in the main off the pitch and in his failure to instill a cultural shift in actual uniting peope into accepting our predicament at that time. You cant carry on when a good portion of your fans and local media intensely dislike you and that was his failure.

7 months too late, but sooner than I expected to be honest, baffles me that there are still people who don't think this is the right decision.

Of course he will have his place in the history books for 2013/14 and the Man Utd games, and rightly so, I'm eternally grateful for it, but I'm not going to get sentimental now he's gone, I don't like the bloke and it's been bloody hard work following the U's during most of his tenure with some of the incredibly bizarre and frustrating things he's done, a different kind of struggle to the Taylor, Renard, Ling years. It's difficult to properly express so I'll leave it at that.

I would love to get Nigel Clough next but not quite sure we have enough pull to get him. Would be extrememly underwhelmed with Joe Dunne and a few of the other names on the merry go round, and of course the "young, inexperienced" manager approach really could go either way, I don't think there is a particularly successful set formula in appointing football managers.

A big appointment, this could still be a very very successful season.

Spooky. A lot of the comments above about the manager, players, style of football, etc. reflect the feelings of a large number of Luton fans about John Still and what is happening at Luton at the moment (particularly this season, but over the last year actually). The only real difference is in the relationship that the respective managers have with the supporters, which is one reason that John Still maintains a degree of support despite results, and bloody awful football.

(PS Vanni, are you SURE that you aren't a Luton supporter on the quiet?)

No way djs! The main reasons why I don't hate Luton are 1) Two of my friends are Luton fans 2) I really believe the FA were very unfair with the 30 points deduction 3) A proper club with a long colourful history 4) I don't have a lot of time for Watford, and they''re your biggest rivals 5) I certainly do not consider Luton as our rivals, only a club that's a little over an hour away.

Now, regarding my big side comment. Some conference sides, you know, the smaller ones and the part-timers, viewed Cambridge as a big ex-league club and I believe some of these sides played one of their best games of the season when they faced us. So if they view us as a big club, then it's logical they also see your club this way, and I'm sure they all did their best to get a result. They're probably seeing Grimsby and Tranmere as their cup finals presently. So I think 55% during Money's time is very good, especially when considering that the novelty of playing Luton hadn't yet wore off.

Money lost the dressing room from his hard man to work for tactics. He bullied players. It was time to go, just like when it was time to go at Luton.

I would love Clough but I think we'll end up with Danny Wilson or Chris Wilder.

I return to this board after a month away to find that things have moved on more than I'd realised. I've kept up with scores and heard a flavour of the Roberts/Portsmouth incident but hadn't expected this much drama.

In truth, I was expecting Richard to have walked away by Christmas or sooner if the team had not gelled and results improved.

I'm pleased he was here - many happy memories; I'm pleased he's gone - it wasn't working; I'm apprehensive about who next for the great adventure - we've clearly got a lot of experience and egos in the dressing room and a lot of ambition on the terraces.

I cringe at some of the suggestions on our messageboard for his replacement.

Some are just daft. Obviously Clough won't be interested. But Sherwood, Holloway, Megson etc are all daft bookie selections.

I'm quite fond of the sheer arrogance in the Ainsworth and Wilder suggestions. Why would Ainsworth want to leave a club he's got history with, a big budget and a favourite for us....without us paying a fortune in the first place?

And Wilder, also employed, not actually all that and has a real disdain for us. The last thing I would want us to do is raid a local club in their hour of need, especially for him.

Almost as hilarious as the "but Jose will be out of a job soon, heh heh" jokes. They never get old.

My favourite daft suggestion was appoint the bloke who'd just been sacked bottom of the Conference with one of the bigger sides. Or Alan Devonshire.
