Probably one of the coolest people that's ever lived. Fought for the Finns during the Winter War as a volunteer, joined the RAF in WWII, ended up doing a stint in special forces, became a legendary horror actor as well as other hit movies/franchises (Bond, Star Wars and LOTR the main ones, the only member of the cast to meet Tolkien who promised him the role of Gandalf should the movies ever be made) and continued to make metal music into his 90's.

Legend just doesn't quite do him justice.

It's hard to think of somebody who has lived a better life than he did. I mean, fucking hell, being in both Star Wars and LOTR alone makes him a hero to any nerd walking the planet. All of the other stuff too is just icing on the cake.

I think it is as good a time as any to re-watch the original Fu Man Chu film tonight.....not seen it for a while and I enjoy it.

As said by Oaf he's had a near perfect career, and when considering the guy has literally been typecast the whole time (something which can destroy a lot of careers) he's done excellent. But played probably the most wide ranging collection of Villains you can ever get.

From Mad doctors monsters to the rising dead, to evil Monks, to nut job local to the worlds best hitman to evil wizards to Sith Lords.........what a collection.

and not many can claim to be a big villain in the Bond, Star Wars and LORD series.

Really sad news this. One of Britain's most charismatic actors and had a hell of a life. Acted over the years with Erroll Flynn and Boris Karloff too! He was related to Italian aristocracy and was cousin to Ian Fleming as well. Not a bad life mind you I suppose he saw some horrors in WW2 and killed a few Germans by all accounts. He was perfect for Saruman as he was an avid LOTR reader having read it every year he said and he actually met Tolkien too!

My favourite Lee film is The Devil Rides Out, a pretty naff film about black magic, and a rarity in that he played the hero in it. He like his great friend Peter Cushing made these low budget films highly watchable and always added gravitas to those films.

A great man and actor, one of the true legends of British cinema.

RIP Christopher Lee.

Have read all day about how he 'only played villains'... Rubbish! Lee was an extremely versatile actor, with a wicked sense of humour. Yes, he played the odd baddie (notably as a copper in Monkey Trousers), but a cursory look a his IMDB will absolve him of any 'typecast' accusations. In Liquid News and, memorably, the 11 O'Clock Show, his social commentaries were dry and arch, yes, but also delivered with a sense of fun. I have no idea how you could look at the man and think of him as pure evil. His performances were nuanced and complex. RIP.

No age at all, tbh.

Never knew he was in LOTR and Star Wars btw. My estimation of the man just goes up and up.

Sad news.

Mention for Ron Moody too, Fagin has to be one of my favourite characters of any film.

RIP both.

I'm twenty eight. Not a big fan of Lord of the Rings though to be fair. Just seems a very strange move to go from RI:SE to Mordor! But I suppose that was just the kind of man he was. RIP.

Shite news but not unexpected. 93 is a bloody good innings after all. Definitely the most iconic actor in the Dracula stakes.

It is a good innings, and yet I can't help but feel that 93 is no age for Dracula to bow out. Rather saddened.

Quite frankly, I think anyone who's making Christmas metal albums at the age of 92 is a bit of a fucking hero, and that's without even considering his immense contribution to film. Think a ceremonial viewing of The Wicker Man might be in order.

Dracula stakes.

He was a fine Fagin definitely (though personally my favourite is the great Alec Guinness in the role).

RIP Ron Moody

The best horror actor of all time? I think so.

Personally love him as Scaramanga in my favourite Bond film. What a bloke.

RIP.

I saw this and thought 'another taken too young', then saw he was 93. What a fantastic actor and I hope I can do the things hes done well into my 80's.

RIP Saruman
