Rochdale vs Latics

Think 2-0 is a decent bet. Can't go today and this'll be the first Dale Latics game I've missed so a bit miffed about that.

Words can't describe how bad we are.

I'm done with this club.

Robinson out.
But, before that, Corney out.

We will probably sign Anthony Gerard in jan and bring in a decent loan striker, it's the way Corney likes to do it, wait until we are in the shit before sticking his hand in his pockets

Na we are beyond that. We actually had a half decent team last year being managed by complete no marks. This year we have the best keeper in league one and peter clarke. The rest are Sunday league and 2 players who play the game in front of our own goal cannot influence the game enough at the other end to drag the rest of.the excuse for.a team theough

Good passionate local derby with fantastic vocal backing from Oldham. Considering both Oldham & Bury brought similar numbers, there was a World of difference between the support.
For what it's worth, I thought Dale were on top for much of the match, but Oldham had a good spell for 20 minutes after half time, and had 2 or 3 good efforts. Apart from that spell, Dale were the more likely to score.
I reckon Oldham need 2 or 3 good players (especially up front) to turn their season around.

Our fans are literally the only thing going for us at the moment. We may not have the numbers but we take some of if not the best vocal support up and down the country. But yes, Bolton away and rochdale away were especially good given how poor we are

Just seen this.

We knew that he had been charged, but no-one seems to have seen what happened (and there were 5200 in the ground, plus the players and officials).
Obviously, it must have been something very very serious to warrant a 12 game ban... I think Louis Suarez only got a 10 game ban for his second bite attack, which was seen by millions on TV and did huge damage to the game and to his club.

Hoping a Latics fan can shed some light on this for us.

Probably didn't wear a poppy at the hearing!

Leaves us a bit light up front, with Ian Henderson out injured. Stephen Davies will have a lot on his shoulders, but has looked very competent since signing. Samni Odelusi may get some starts, or Joe Bunney could move back up front. Or young Matt Gillam, who scored a hattrick in the FA Youth Cup in midweek, could get his opportunity.

Unusually long ban for it so must have been very serious to get 12 game ban!
Compare it to Suarez getting 10 matches for a third biting incident. Barton got 12 matches for two separate incidents. Whatever Calvin has done 12 matches is ludicrous.

When I heard "elbow", I thought fuck off 12 matches.

Having seen it again, it's disgusting. Grounds for assault really, a justified a heavy ban.

How did no official see that though?

Pre meditated. No where near play. Clarke is a sitting duck and completely unaware it's coming. Could have resulted in severe injury for him.

Andrew is lucky he isn't facing criminal charges on this one. Gbh any day of the week if that happens in the street.

Ban fully justified imo

Not sure how any Rochdale fans can complain at the length of the ban, he's lucky he's not being locked up

I just think 12 in comparison to other similar acts of violence is excessive. If they were all treated the same I wouldn't have an issue but the fact the rulings within the FA are so radically inconsistent is my main gripe. What Calvin did is shocking, there's no denying that. It is however completely out of character, for a player who's never even had a red card in his entire career. He's usually one of the calmest players on the pitch. Something must have provoked him into this one. All I'm saying is if it was a big name player I doubt the punishments would be equal. Barton performed two acts of violence which also resulted in a 12 match ban. Barton is a player who's known for his violent shenanigans. If like I said before this is the precedent for future punishments and they are more heavily punished then so be it, because there's no place in football for these kind of acts.

Suarez mildly irritating someone's skin with a bite and getting 10 games for it is worse than Andrews going out to twat someone as hard as possible in the head though, so I don't agree with the 'big name' argument. I agree that the FA is massively inconsistent with their rulings and they probably have no idea what they're doing.

Suarez is a serial offender though, he's bitten what, 3 people now? Like I've said I'm definitely not condoning CA's actions, the real test will be next time something similar to this happens. If it's a similar punishment then great but I genuinely do believe the same incident for someone such as Rooney (as I said above) would warrant smaller punishment from the FA. A player with an otherwise exemplary record of discipline has made one disgraceful mistake. There's no way he's done this without some sort of provocation. I wonder if that will ever come out though. If he's not been provoked then an explanation of why he behaved as he did would be nice, well either way it would be nice to know why.

This went completely unpunished

So this elbow is arguably not as bad, but like Calvins it's off the ball and very much intentional. No charge whatsoever from the FA. This is where I'm coming from when I go on about big names getting away with it.

The referee saw it though and decided it wasn't worth any action, the FA can't really do much about it then. That's more about Battenburg being a shit ref.

Battenburg being a shit ref.
You can say that again, not even a yellow and he's seen the incident. It would have been better for us if Calvins had have been seen then by all accounts he'd have his first ever red card and a 3 match ban, which for what he did is nowhere near enough! The FA should be able to overrule a referee when it's as blatant as the Rooney incident.
