To what end? If the club is well-run why would the fans want to put pressure on the board? It doesn't make any sense...

According to them, when a player gets sold it's asset stripping. So does that mean all owners are asset stripping when a transfer is done?

I am sure that even you can realise there is a world of difference between selling a player and doing what we have been doing.

What has been done? Just transfers of players, nothing more and nothing less.

As a fan of a club with a bit of a dodgy owner (in fact, a long long line of dodgy owners) there must be SOMETHING going on for so many of your fans to be claiming there is.

We have a few fans who are always prepared to dig and dig and dig until they find answers. I assume Charlton, with a much larger fan base, have the same.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/alisher-usmanov-set-use-600million-13204265

Also been reported in The Sun and Daily Mail since. Admittedly, not the most reliable of sources but may well be something in it.

Thought I had replied to this.

You are kidding aren’t you?

Transfers happen for a number of reasons. To bring in funds to help run the club, to bring in funds to then reinvest in the squad, a player is unhappy etc. None of these things have happened have they and nor are the first two reasons necessary here when the bloke is worth in excess of 800m.

What’s happened is, Roland has sold ALL our key players and promising youngsters to the first bidder with the exception of Lookman and then replaces them with either journeymen who are free agents or loans. Selling people like Joe Gomez for 3.5m is fucking scandalous. Every Charlton fan knew he was going to go and make it big from the first time they saw him play, he was easily another 8m+ player. He sold Ricky Holmes for £750k in January ffs, in the middle of a season when we were going for promotion, he sold our key man for peanuts and never replaced him.

Before Bowyer brought in his full quota of loans, we couldn’t even fill a bench.

The squad sees a massive overhaul every year because of the short contracts and loans because our key assets have gone and never been replaced and then the stupid old fool expects someone to pay 50m for the club.

While I’m here let’s look at this.

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...has-been-the-mistake-of-my-life-a3928341.html

In an interview with Belgian magazine Knack, Duchatelet added: “My conclusion is that the recipes from the business world are totally unsuccessful in football. [Investing in football] was a mistake. The football business doesn’t suit me. Too irrational. If you want to lose real money, buy a football club.

An admission that he has no fucking idea how a football club works. Fit and proper my arse.

Off topic a little I know but Katrien has been a breath of fresh air at ours, seems she's learned from her past mistakes and is doing the hard work behind the scenes.

Whilst I’ll always despise her, it’s clear that a lot of what she did and said here was a result of being let down by Roland. Certainly his fall guy, unfortunately she handled that role terribly.

She clearly performs better in the background and for a chairman who involves himself in the running of the club rather than being left to her own devices.

Just how do these, predominantly, foreign owners pass the fit and proper person test?

Feel for fans of all these clubs being fucked over. Reckon there’s a few more that are in the process of being hog-tied as well.

Wow! I didn't know about any of this before I read the article.
That is scarily familiar.
Being brewing for a while, first real discontent happened last summer when he wanted to sack McCall after Wembley, because they obviously aren't professional enough to put personal feelings aside for the good of the club, and instead of sacking him they slashed the budget to make his job more difficult. First talk of protests began early this year and if it wasn't for appointing Hopkin something was likely to happen against Charlton. Playing side this season they have invested no doubt(well more than last season anyway) but only because they hired a total fool and yes man to control. Behind the scenes is my biggest worry however, some of the most loyal and hard working staff in football have either been shown the door or left due to working conditions, I've only spoke with a couple but they say the same. It's gone from a place with a bond behind the scenes, whether that be the tea lady behind the scenes or the captain, to an awkward and uncomfortable one and a place difficult to work.

I was more than prepared to give them a chance, even after last years shambles, but it can't go on for ever, they'll be nobody behind the scenes with any sort of experience or competence left at this rate.

I feel for Hopkin the only saving grace is i can't imagine him been a yes man, but we'll have to see how they get on with him, if it doesn't work then it's another to the list with Charlton, Coventry and Blackpool.

If Hopkin keeps us up I'll be happy as like when Parkinson did 2012. We'll get hammered to Charlton I have no doubts, thanks to the shambles of a coaching team they hired we aren't fit and aren't a team, we resemble a team who've just come back from pre season.

ll.

Well we had one pre-Pozzos who was allowed to buy us despite the fact he'd change his twice and been bankrupt so probably doesn't say much for their testing!

They probably just say "I've got loads of money and really care about football" to get in.

We're a little club amongst the smallest in this division. Our ground is dreadful, our budget is miniscule and our manager is constantly restrained by our budget and tinkers when he shouldn't. However, we're supporter owned and punching above our weight. We've somehow managed to avoid relegation for 16 years (6 promotions in that time) despite some close calls. The only debt we have is a mortgage on the ground and that is quite small. We're two years away from a larger ground near our spiritual home.

I love being part owner of my club and I'm sure most Wombles and Chairboys feel the same.

I do but it seems it could be under threat of a takeover which scares the crap out of me after our last owner left us £6,000,000 in debt, there's a meeting at the club for members of the trust tonight.

Sounds like any deal with Fawaz is off the table after his divvy pal broke the NDA that had only just been signed by tweeting a picture of them at The Valley

This man is unbelievable.

Worth 30 minutes of your time if you're interested.

  • Confesses that Charlton are only 2% of his interest and therefore only gets 2% of his time.
  • Virtually admits that his people were suggesting starting lines-ups.
  • Sacked Chris Powell because Powell wanted his coaching staff to have new contracts and didn't want to play Roland's players.
  • Supposedly just wants rid of the club after he admits that buying it in the first place was a mistake and doesn't care how much he gets for it.
  • Believes protests aided in relegation from The Championship and are putting off any potential buyers (there has been only one protest within the last year and we won games against Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Birmingham in our relegation season when we protested and lost against Burnley in the final game who were Champions)
  • Chris Wilder had agreed to be manager until he had read a negative post from a Charlton fan on the CharltonLife forum, he blames the fans for Wilder joining Sheffield United.
  • Feels sorry for Charlton fans because it's their life but it isn't his, just something he had an interest in.
He has basically blamed everyone but himself for the last 4 years of failure.

Please someone, just buy this club.

I’m listening to it now, thought it would have been mentioned in here.

Got an excuse for everything hasn't he, jesus christ.

Edit: finished listening to it now, I didn’t fully read your bullet points as I didn’t want to spoil the interview but the thing that pissed me off the most about that was him blaming the fans for the protest and saying that was what relegated you, and was going to say didn’t you beat Middlesbrough who were top of the league during one of the protests.

Yep, everything is the fan's fault basically.

Obviously, the entire interview pissed me off but the worst part for me was the bit about Chris Wilder. He honestly thinks people will believe that he decided not to take the job after reading a comment on a fan's forum. It's the part where Jim White says "so you believe it's these comments that put Wilder off?" and he replies with "It is there, I have shown you" as if some print out of an internet forum is concrete proof. It of course had nothing to do with the club failing to have it written into Wilder's contract that he would be in full control of the team and his boyhood club getting whiff of it and swooping for him at the 11th hour.

Also, he says he thinks our fans are great etc but still can't help himself, even right at the beginning of the interview "Charlton fans who dream of being the big boss can't understand that the big boss can only give 2% of his time". Patronising prick.

Jim White has today announced on TalkSport that a takeover will be completed in the next 48-72 hours, possibly before Saturday's game.

We've heard it all before so I shouldn't get too excited but I've got the champagne on ice and penis in hand.

We could soon be Duchatelet free!

It seems 2 Americans who owned Derby County have bid to take over Wycombe from the fans trust,my only question is why? If they take over they will not own Adams Park which is good news but i can't for the life of me think why they would want to own a League 1 club on the edge of London with crowds of around 4,000. :sna:
I'm a trust member with shares in the club which will be worthless if they take over as i will have no voice,i can see this going tits up. :ffs:

Who owns the ground? Local council?

We’re buying our ground off the council. Luckily it’s a joint venture between ‘Sticky Fingers’ Power and the Supporters Trust.

Councils are keen to offload assets nowadays.
