Theres a lot of hype about this colombia side and most of it is unwarranted.
They finished 4th in qualifying, 1 point ahead of Peru who nobody rates. And they didn't win a single encounter against the big 3, Brazil, Argies or Uruguay.
Player for player barely any of them get near our team with Rodriguez, D.Sanchez shoe ins and Falcao a possibility.
Atletico Falcao walks in, but thats not him anymore. People seem unaware of that.
Cuadrado is a bit parter at Juve, Izquierdo is a mid level prem winger and Quintero was never good enough nor fit enough to break into Portos side and went to River Plate.
Former Villan Sanchez is utter dogshit, Arias has never got his arse out of the Dutch league.
People scoff at Hendo but fk me if you think Sanchez is anywhere near his level you're off your fking tits.
I think you underestimate the hype Colombian players get from playing at a World Cup. Don't know how many Colombian/English will attend but, having spent 2 weeks in Russia, they were by far the most represented nation countrywide. I mean they were fucking everywhere! Far, far more than Mexico or Peru (Argentina were suprisingly in small numbers). Went Kaliningrad on Thursday and I actually reckon there were more Belgians than English (but that's my gut feeling).
Anyway, good points about the quality of the squad. I hope you're right. Maybe I'm overestimating due to their demolition of Poland but I reckon Cuadrado, James and Falcao can walk in the squad. The England fans I spoke to are vastly underestimating Falcao and making a judgment from his time at Chelsea. Falcao at his best is probably the best CF left in the tournament. I'd have him over Kane anyday.

We shall see. Can't wait for Tuesday.

England fans will be outnumbered 20-1 on Tuesday night, our fans have just completely bottled travelling to russia but as predicted everyone who's gone says it's been absolutely brilliant. It was the same for the euros in Ukraine, loads bottled that too and it was the best trip I've ever been on.

Is a tough tie and you wonder what the added expectations will do to the players now the stars have pretty much aligned for us with our half of the draw and Spain going out. We’ve a great chance to make the final and bottling it would be a massive missed opportunity. Will it add pressure to a young side?

Colombia were poor against Japan (let’s not forget to avoid the red their lad wouldn’t have stopped a certain goal! And we’re poor against Senegal. Played well against Poland but Poland were diabolical on the night.

If James is out we should progress, even if he plays he’s not likely to be 100%, Colombia look fast on the break against Poland but we don’t play an open attacking game so shouldn’t be susceptible to that.

Strange one at the moment because we went into the tournament with low expectations now the carrots have been dangled with the two performances in the group and then the way the path to the final has been laid out that from being happy to make the QF at best the nerves are jangling because we have a great chance to go to the final (and then it’s a one off game where anything can happen) and well just hoping we don’t throw a shitter and play to our potential.

tbf, if i had a tenner on a treble of

england vs colombia
england vs sweden/switzerland
england vs croatia/russia

i'd be confident, too.

and yet i lose 9/10 of weekend accumulators with better odds than that, so maybe something to think about.

How reliable is the dark net for getting massively illegal substances delivered to one's home?

Asking for a friend, of course.

You wouldn’t see it coming

This Colombia side is massively overrated cos of how the performed at the last World Cup. They were fairly poor in the group stage, their only half decent performance against an abysmal Polish side.

They’ve obviously got dangerous players in Cuadrado and James (who isn’t fully fit hopefully) and Falcao occasionally plays well too. Sanchez is utterly wank, will get torn apart by Sterling and Lingard.

Comfortable 2-0 win.

Southgate needs to be sacked if England don't beat Colombia or at least reach Semifinals. I wouldn't underestimate Colombia like most here are but England have enough quality to beat them, especially if they don't have James Rodriguez.

Colombia will now be the 2nd highest supported foreign team at the World Cup. I think BBC before was saying it was
1. Brazil
2. Germany
3. Colombia

So tomorrow will basically be like playing an away game, which obviously makes it harder.

Spain going out yesterday just adds to the dreams of everyone thinking how far we could get, but knowing us, we'll lose tomorrow and that will be that.

There will be no excuses for a poor performance or lack of effort, this is it really. We now have the best chance to get to a final as we've probably ever had (as does every other team in our tree)

Germany didn't look like they had hardly any to me. Argies have filled grounds the most then Colombia imo.

Can't argue with that (from TV)

They seemed to be talking from a point of view not in stadium but in Russia - although I'm not sure how they'd know?

because they went to the wrong match place, straight to Volgograd. Old habits die hard. But we didn't play there this time.

But BBC said it and BBC is always right...right?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Unless England get to the final, they will at least have the novelty of being knocked out be someone different this time around.

Everyone who has ever knocked England out of a tournament in the knock out stages of either a World Cup or the Euros is either already out/didn’t make it) (Germany, Portugal, Argentina, Iceland, Italy), in the other half of the draw (Uruguay, Brazil) or don’t exist anymore (Soviet Union, Yugoslavia (so Russia and Croatia don’t count).

So whatever happens, there’s that to look forward to. Losing to Sweden instead of Germany again.

(If I’m wrong on any of this, I don’t really care. It was five minutes on Wikipedia)

But how many of those were transfers through Frankfurt/Munich airport? I live abroad, if I went it doesn't mean a Slovak is there... I guess with the needing of Visa, perhaps the Russians announce

Doubt it, supposedly swelling on his right leg, rather than a muscle tear as first feared.

Can't see why they wouldn't risk him for a one-off knockout game.

Obviously hoping he's not in the squad mind.

Yeah he should be sound if it's just swelling.

If we play to our best I'd say we'd win easy, especially if James is out. However this is England, we've under performed/chocked so many times in the knockout stages our record is terrible.

That said I'm going for a 2-1 win. Huge chance to get to the final should we get through this game.

Either way I imagine Colombia will want to keep that under wraps for as long as they can get away with it. Have to assume he'll play some part, even if it's just off the bench only 75% fit.

Still Cuadrado, Quintero, and obviously Falcao are good enough to worry about.

Ok for now, but tomorrow at work will feel like bloody forever.

That's what it's all about though isn't it, nerves, worry, excitement. For too many England games mostly outside of the tournaments you just feel...nothing. It's good that something feels important.
