Signed it but I don't think it will make a difference. Don't think Premier League clubs will be interested, Even if the fans are. I'd love us to rip the seats out of the QLE at Field Mill and turn it to safe standing. Atmosphere at all football grounds has been dead for years now. 18 thousand odd stand safely at Dortmund every match.

Signed. Only 60th.......What a photo above. Sadly I also think it will not happen unless they are given a reason like a reverse Hillsborough disaster when people stand in seats.

Our chairman said they are going to consider safe standing and see if it is possible.
Well. I guess actually he said they are open to all ideas.

Got to be careful what I say here, but we probably can't ever have standing in the Premier League even if it is safe because Liverpool fans will just start having a go over what happened at Hillsborough, even though that was purely because of giant fences and idiotic police.

That's the point though, standing in seated areas isn't safe (remembering back to my stewarding NVQ).

25,000 standing on the yellow wall at BVB.
We have 12,000 home fans standing in the lower section of the Nord Kurve at Borussia Park and 4,000 away standing in the NW corner.
Never a problem because the barriers are designed differently to the versions we had in England prior to Hillsborough, however the seats always need to be replaced for European and International games which reduces the capacity from 54k to 46k.

Yeh,the terraces must return.
Should never have gone in the first place.
There are many aspects that terracing brings to the footy experience: better singing, surges, pissing in someones pockets, the opportunity to take an end/run the opposition fans, etc.
Aaargh...football was great in the 70's...it can be again.

A petition to allow safe standing has now gone live. Let's all sign this and get it debated in Parliament

The problem is that we do stand at your place, not a good experience if not above six foot! We only see 3/4 of the pitch...

Indeed, it's not a good experience. However we're left with paying a fair amount of dosh to the Football Stadium Fund if we have standing at our new ground. We want standing, but I don't think we can afford it.

Yes we can.
It's just that it already been dismissed by one man, without putting to the fans to ask what we really want.

We're supposed to be a fans club. Not one mans ideaoligy of one.

Interesting judgement call from Grimsby.

My understanding is that we are being allowed to build a new terrace at the Abbey on the basis that terraces are allowed in L1 and L2. For Phase 1 of the Abbey re-development (if/when it happens), we'll be replacing our NRE terrace with a much larger terrace to the new specs for "safe standing." It doesn't require rail seats. Perhaps the difference is that we're not all seater currently, we're replacing existing terrace with improved terrace and it's a long time since we were at the 2nd tier.

Other key points are:
  1. You can't get a grant for terracing but you can for seating - our fans want terraces and the club wants the extra capacity provided by terraces. We can get the funding by other means.
  2. We're hoping that the Championship will have dropped the requirement for all-seaters by the time we're knocking on the door.
  3. Standing in seated areas is uncomfortable, unsafe and unfair on kids and short-arses if they have no choice where to "sit/stand." I usually stand but try to avoid blocking someone's view, whilst avoiding proximity to the drum(s).
The law should be changed (and probably will be) but I don't think that you can afford to wait for the change. If you want it enough, as a fans' club, you should set your mind to go for it. If necessary, look for other funding options for the standing areas - or is that not an option for a new build stadium in L1/L2?

As always, the FSF website is a good place to go to to get information on standing. http://www.fsf.org.uk/campaigns/safe-standing/the-legalities-of-standing/

As it points out, it's not against the law (ie. a criminal offence) to stand at football matches and you can't be arrested for doing it, but it is contrary to stadium regulations (a civil offence) so you could be ejected. But, enforcing stadium regulations is down to the club, so if a club wants to allow standing they can, such as at Cardiff. http://www.fsf.org.uk/blog/view/Cardiff-City-s-incredible-journey-by-Dr-Steve-Frosdick

Such a shame that the largest terrace in English football is the Big Bank at Exeter. I understand why those families associated with Hillsborough may be wary of reintroducing standing due to their closeness with that horrible day, but we've come a long way since then - and the causes for that horrific day are no longer a concern.

Saddest terrace that they've got rid of in recent years is the Moyes End Terrace at Peterborough. Loved that. London Road is a ground that's having its character ripped out of it thanks to those regulations around grounds in the Championship.

The main factor for me is that standing in certain seated areas is so persistent that surely it would be safer to replace these areas with safe standing as a measure to improve safety?

Celtic are installing it next season, but unlike England no laws have to be changed for them to do so. It's still a pipe dream for the Premiership in England. There's simply no reason for the Government to change anything.

Our new chairman said he'd be interested into looking into it, not sure if it's just platitudes though. Imagine the Stretford End as a safe standing end, would be so decent.
