For those of you who don't understand and Nilsson , the pills he used were not on Uefa's list of banned substances at the time.

His suspension has been lifted and it begs the question: will this put a GIANT asterisk next to Sevillas' win against Liverpool? Expecting an outrage from certain members on here, considering the guardians of fair play that they are.

We was robbed. :hypo:

Ah, the cover up begins, just what we all anticipated.

I'm so pleased Sevilla won that game, if Liverpool got CL football they would've had a genuine chance at getting some stellar names.

"The 26-year-old submitted his defence to UEFA's disciplinary committee on Monday and as part of that his legal team questioned whether the substance in the supplement should even be on the prohibited list given some apparent scientific evidence on its effects."

Sounds like it was on the list, just that they don't think it should be.

.
If it's true that he's been let off because they're debating if the drug should be on the banned list then it doesn't really change anything for me. They're on the banned list therefore he shouldn't have taken them. I'm sure there are plenty of drugs on banned lists throughout the world of sport that make negligible difference (and perhaps even no difference) to athletic performance, but they're on the list and it needs to be adhered to.

Not really cleared though is he. not at all in fact. His suspension has been lifted while Uefa/Wada look into whetehr it should be a banned substance. if they decide it should be he will still get a ban. Uefa are just covering them form a lawsuit in case Wada decide it shouldn't be banned.

If it was on the banned list when he took it he should get the full 2 years. whether it changes after that it's neither here nor there. He's admitted taking it, it was abanned substance. he's a dirty cheat

Na, he's just been a little silly and not a cheat or he would've refused to take a test like someone did a few years ago you may know... ;)

Come on now Salts, no player on the payroll for any respectable football club would do that. The two cases are hardly comparable.

In all seriousness I do feel a bit sorry for the guy - he's missed a once in a career chance to play for his national side at a home Euro tournament and he has also missed the Europa League final off of the back of the allegations.

Yeah its a shame what has happened to him and he has acted superbly about it, personally requesting to be made unavailable till this is sorted to take pressure off the club (and himself I suppose) and you are right, he missed the Euro's which France will hopefully win losing out on a medal there and may have made a difference in the EL final too. He is a good guy by all accounts as well, who does a lot of charity stuff and seems to genuinely be involved in it. Ach well what's done is done, he'll be all the stronger for it going forward I reckon.

Aren't you kind of twisting this? Sakho wasn't found to be innocent. The case was dropped presumably because it's since been decided that the substance shouldn't really be on the banned list. But it was when he took it. I don't think Sakho has any case if that's right.

Liverpool would have won the Europa League, Champions League, Euros and World Cup if Sakho wasn't a victim.

The trouble with this thread is that it seems to be either pro or anti Liverpool.

I don't understand critism of WADA or UEFA, they are trying to keep our sport clean. I'm dreading the day when, as in other sports a top footballer tarnishes the reputation of all by being caught cheating.

I don't think the drug in question was performance enhancing, it was simply the player being lazy and wanting to avoid the diet and hard work that would have achieved the same results.

That said he knew that is was wrong and was willing to take the chance otherwise he would have told LFC he was taking it.

Regardless of the club I want football to be clean, the money in our game these days means we should be doing more testing to ensure it stays that way.
