I think they have many good players

Don’t worry, we don’t. Certainly none in defence anyway, you’re gonna have a field day.

If anything he'll probably try really hard not to give Charlton many 50/50 decisions.

Which is why it’s probably best he wasn’t the ref to appoint.

In business, if there is any links to a client with an employee, it has to be considered by the employer of situations which would make it difficult for the employee to work competently and impartial.

Having a Sheffield Wednesday fan as the ref on Saturday creates unneeded talking points. Questions might be made on decisions made whether it’s for our benefit or Charltons benefit or simply a correct decision, it’s too risky for him.

Maybe the club should have remained quiet but come on, if something similar to this happened to another club and something DURING the game looked wrong, those clubs and fans would pipe up. Doing what the club has, a point has been highlighted PRIOR to the game that can now be avoided.

We've took it up to the top of the tree... let's hope sense prevails. Hello controversy

12 fixtures, there is absolutely no reason why a Wednesday fa should be allocated to our game. Unconscious bias is the issue, I'll say it again, unconscious which is beyond his control.

Just switch him to another game to avoid any controversy.

What other game? Plymouth? Barnsley?
I think you are being a bit sensitive here

There are 12 league one fixtures.

Just don't allocate him one that has no correlation to the auto race.

Explain to me how that idea doesn't make sense?

Seems like they're just getting their excuses in early
Whether he’s good or not, I think situations like this are asking for trouble. Now any huge decision he makes will be met with ‘he’s biased towards Charlton because he supports Wednesday’ or ‘he’s trying too hard to not be biased that he’s ended up going too far the other way‘

The issue is with the EFL for putting the bloke in that situation. It’s a ridiculous choice for such an enormous game at an edgy stage in the season. I don’t think it’s fair on him, us or Charlton.

Who does Trevor kettle support ? Because that walloper never gave us anything. Ever.
So who they support is not a massive issue, bigger issue is incompetence.

Mad how people can't see the issue with this. EFL have now changed him, so it's clear they see the issue too.

Referees should always have impartiality. He literally supports a team that need us to slip up in order to get promoted.

There will be massive pressure on him not to make a bias decision, but it will be very difficult for him to do so, because any slight incorrect decision will have either team moaning.

It could go either way;
1) he tries to prove impartiality, but in doing so is biased towards Ipswich, making Charlton upset.
2) he favours Charlton without really realising it, and makes Ipswich upset.

It's such a simple change to swap referees around to remove this potential complication, which they have now done.

Just looked up stats for James Bell. He was the runt who gifted Portsmouth a win against us last month.
Only had 3 games this year and he has sent off players in 2 of them, and given a pen (that wasnt a pen)

The conspiracy widens! Yes, the first goal was a yard offside, but that was the incompetent linesman's fault not Bell's. And it was definitely a penalty and definitely a sending off.

I don't think the League have done Ipswich any favours here by switching him. With all the scrutiny he would have absolutely over-compensated and given Ipswich all the marginal decisions. Now they will have to put up with the usual, random low-standard League One refereeing.

This I do agree with. The sending off and pen not so much as both involved theatrics :bg:

Pity you could not do that with The worst refereeing game in the history of football

Well you will win Saturday as vale are wank.
How many are you bringing?
Be good if we can build on our last three games.
We don't score many at home , our last one was the first time we'd score more than once since November and we haven't scored more than two at home in a year

Depends which Vale turn up I guess, if the one that fought like Trojan’s Monday does or went to Bolton and Pompey and performed we should give you a good game, if the one that couldn’t be arsed at Accrington turns up we are in trouble.

Hopefully the backlash from the Cambridge and Accrington efforts and the improvement against Oxford is more than just a quick flash in the pan.

Even more riding on the Cambridgeshire derby ('Der Fennico'?) - at least the Grecians are safe, while both teams have major skin in the game at the Abbey.
I'm hoping the Just Stop Oil lot, who are protesting today apparently, don't try to interfere with the football traffic - it may end badly for all concerned...

Decent half of football, that. We’ve been the better side, a few chances but nothing really clear cut.

Assume Schumacher will get at their players at HT, as they haven’t done anything yet.

Carry on though, and we’ll win this

Good half from us. They missed a total sitter on the left after 35 mins and Clarke-Harris was close with one from miles out but otherwise we’ve done ok defensively. And then Dunk’s goal obviously was a moment.

Long way to go and obviously they’re gonna throw the kitchen sink at us second half. We’ll need another I think.

Get in there! Massive massive result. Pressure on the others now to win today.

Game of very few chances and both teams kept it tight as anticipated. Thought Exeter were there for the taking in the second half after not offering a lot throughout. They were far more impressive at Home Park.

Think we deserved it based on a solid away performance and good game management. Devon is green!
