Well that’s the perfect way to bounce back from a 5-1 defeat.

We'll put that one down to a bad afternoon, I think!

I expected a comfortable home win, but to see us go 4 nil down just after HT, happy/ relieved to keep it at 4 in the end!

One of those games, Peterborough much much better than us in every way! Shows the gulf in this division.

Next 3 games are Barrow (A), Fleetwood (H), Cambridge (A) which should be much more of an even test.

I think until we scored the opener it looked very even but after that you could see the confidence drained out of the Burton team and I think there was only one result likely thereafter. Looked to me the kind of thing that happens to a team when the manager is about to be on his way. It’s a good Burton team just not matched by the manager. All the best to Burton though.

Bad afternoon today, Santos mistake and lack of concentration, credit to Wednesday, they capitalised and controlled the game after that....move on to next week

Great second half performance from Fleetwood, thoroughly deserved a point. Defense wise excellent with stand out performances from Jay Lynch and Shaun Rooney ( MOM ) Still light up front but that should improve with Mendes and Lane back soon. Still sniffing round Stockton but think we've missed out ..shame. Derby, no great shakes !

Last season’s Charlton turned up against a pretty handy Cambridge side.

Not much else to say.

Very pleased with that. Looked like an excellent performance from the bits I was able to watch on the most unreliable stream ever.

Saw Shrewsbury had 11 ‘dangerous attacks’ to our 57 according to Bet365. Not entirely sure how a dangerous attack is measured but it sounds good anyway haha

Decent second half performance and Gavin Massey seemed to change the game when he came on.

We started a bit slow and Burton put us under some pressure early doors but felt we grew into the game, Walker had one tipped over and just before half time we had a strike cleared off the line.

Second half we started positive and a good goal, Massey forcing the save and Garrity did very well to turn the ball home, similar to his 2nd goal at Swindon last season.

After that Burton battled but were very poor and it felt comfortable, seemed to absolutely kill them that goal.

Benning nearly scored a lovely goal with the outside of his boot forcing a good save, and he had a corner tipped onto the bar. We were fairly professional with the lead and slowed it down and did the right things.

Lovely second goal to seal it, we cleared a corner, Harrison sneaks in to tap it past the defender in his own half runs the length of the half and calmly rounds Garrett to score.

Feel a bit for JFH, he’s done a good job there up until recently but does feel he’s probably gone past his shelf life at Burton and will be a sad end to his tenure if/when he goes.

They battled for him today but just felt they didn’t have the quality in the midfield areas. It’s a great little club and they’ve had an excellent decade getting into the FL and up to the Championship, it’s always a challenge when you “top out” after years of success and have to deal with a decline from a high base but hopefully they can turn it around.

Will take a bit of work on todays evidence though.

As for us, it feels much better tonight, disappointing we didn’t get something against MK nor put Bolton away with the extra man but 7 from 5 is solid now and with a week off hopefully we can evaluate and get strikers in and keep getting better.

Can't grumble with your start though pal

Not at all, going to take a bit of time playing a new way etc

Just very poor today which is frustrating after such a great performance in the week.

The injuries have also already started frustratingly.

Shows the inconsistency in this league really, we were excellent today

Honestly what have Pompey paid this referee? I haven’t seen such 2 bad decisions in ever.
I think it was about £20k. That's the going rate anyway. For another £5k he would have sent off Glenn Whelan for breaking Thompson's leg I reckon?

About the only call he got eight all day!

Is that confirmed leg broken btw?

In two places they reckon. To be honest, I'd rather you had the three points and Louis wasn't out for the rest of the season, which looks likely.

Yes, your one looked a definite penalty and ours was soft. But we all know League One refs are poor quality. We deserved the win though as we were the better team throughout IMHO. We got into dangerous positions continually but kept messing it up.

Collins looked good and took his goal well, but it really came out of nowhere.

We're able to bring match-winners off the bench this season which is making all the difference for us.

Its mad to think 18 years ago I was watching Glenn Whelan help us to promotion from this division, that's some longevity

Trying to follow a game on Twitter when jumping around at an indoor inflatable park, which has no bloody air conditioning, with my 5 year olds was interesting. At half-time it sounded like the alamo, but I don't care how much luck we had, how much shithousing we did at the end, or whether we deserved it or not, 3 points is 3 points and I'll have them any way they come.

Crap, really feel for the bloke. Cameras on iFollow stayed well away from it but you could tell it was serious as the commentators described the medical scenes.

No arguments from me about losing. We didn’t deserve anything from the game and were 2nd best all over the pitch. Our squad is currently worse than last seasons and we have no one on the bench to strengthen.

However, our goal which came from nothing sparked us on and we looked alright from that point. Tbh, I felt like we were getting at least a point. It was setup to be a real smash and grab. However, to have it stolen by the referee like that just makes you feel sick. L1 refs are poor, but we’ve just come back from L2 and our penalty call was just unreal.

Even for your pen I could forgive him if he called it right away, but he was persuaded by the dive and cry from the crowd/players after he didn’t even be seeming to contemplate it for 3/4 seconds. Then there’s the elbow in our GKs face..

Ah well, onto Shrewsbury and it’s nice to be back at home after a tough couple of games at Barnsley & Pompey.

Yes, bottom line is you needed the 3 points and got it, so fair play.

We were decent first half but never really tested your keeper enough, so we can’t have too much to complain about.

That said, it’s been some time since I’ve seen as much time wasting as we saw today. I lost count the amount of times a player went down with a life threatening injury but then got up and ran off 30 seconds later…! But as I say, you came with a plan and got the points so fair play.

Time was that we would never do that, but always moan about having it done to us.

It's a sad state of affairs, but until it's cracked down on, then teams will continue to do it. It's why I don't lose my shit over it anymore when it happens to us.

Yes, the problem was the ref was too weak and allowed it to happen. Four yellows and seven minutes extra time but should have been more. Not that we'd have scored, we were really jaded today.
I'm glad I don't have to watch that every week though.

Yes, it's a real shame. He's had shocking injury problems throughout his career but managed to play the whole season for us last year and became a fixture in our midfield.

I think a yellow was about right. It was a strong challenge but it sounds like Thompson's studs got caught in the turf. Whelan looked pretty sick about it and it may have been why he came off at halftime?

Anyway, good luck for the season.

Also just read that apparently his studs got stuck in the turf which caused an awful bend. That is absolutely awful, really feel for the bloke.

Wishing you luck also, see you in the return game
