Felt a bit sorry for Southend today, they had no luck at all and tried to play football the right way. Not much of a consolation for Southend fans but they were better than Scunthorpe. Perhaps 2-3 players short of being competitive in this league.
Us, James Vaughan made all the difference, he played the striker role superbly well on and off the ball. Add Feeney’s contribution and Macdonalds set pieces we looked a different fish up front compared to the previous 2 games. Still not keen on how Jackson has us set up, inviting teams onto us and being unable to clear the ball properly.

We were crap again. Port vale slightly less crap than the other crap teams we’ve played so far this season. But no team has been as crap as us yet that I’ve seen. Apart from Bolton who were really, really crap. As you can tell, it’s another enjoyable season watching Latics.

yeah - they could have been 4-0 down before we scored our 1st goal aswell...
But equally you could have been 10-0 down before you scored if they’d created 10 chances and scored them.

Good point...Negatives Crellins howler Referee Howler good goal Disallowed, Doyle out for a few weeks
Hamstrung
Positives
Brockbank at lwb, Tutte running the midfield instead of Comley
Sarcevic getting better each game

Cambridge are not a good team....nothing to fear but we wont go anywhere with the 11 he picks.

Our worst performance of the season, no doubt about that. We looked tired, too slow at moving the ball and missed Hoolahan.

If you’re basing us on seeing us play once then I will do the same for Bolton. Mid table fodder with or without Evatt.

Positives today: football was excellent at times, especially first half and can’t be many sides at this level that can play it like we do when we are on it.

attacking was much better with Amoo, created chance after chance first half and had a couple of good openings second half.

some concerns remain, second half the levels dropped off, bit of a worry as the same happened Tuesday where we seemed knackered. Amoo tired but that was expected after barely playing all season and having injuries, maybe the goal played a part but we were not out flowing best after the break.

Set piece defending was sloppy today and nearly threw the game away with it.

Overall pleasing had we lost it would of been 4 losses in 5 as it is it’s 2 wins in 3 and the performance today added into the first half Tuesday gives some optimism back.

Another shocker from us. Thats now 1 goal scored in the last 3 home games and that was even a penalty. No surprise given the recruitment this summer has been shocking in regards to the forward areas where we've not really got a single quality player.

Credit to Newport who look a good side. Long season ahead for us.

I wouldn’t expect you to. When you were signing average league two players you were creaming yourself in pre season.
Santos looked decent for you and the right back on loan from Luton too.

We were far from decent today. In fact we were poor but we’ll take the point and move on. It remains to be seen if this is just a purple patch. From the eight games we’ve played I would say we’ll finish top 7.

I expect you to be top 7 and maybe automatic...
Yes i bought into Evatt and what he was saying. I am sick of repeating myself on here as to where we are going wrong.
We are improving week on week although Doyles injury may hamper us.

Still yet to play our best team and i have give up on Evatt playing Darcy.

Sounded like Harrogate ought to have battered us today. They should have been out of sight by half-time, we scored twice in three minutes against the run of play to miraculously go 2-0 up and then clung on for half an hour.

Similar to Tuesday night, when we scored inside 70 seconds and were then battered for 90 minutes by Forest Green. Six points collected this week, six points more than we should have got.

Back to back wins and clean sheets for us, gives us a bit of a platform now to try and push for the top half of the table.

Poor conditions at Stevenage meant the game wasn't a classic, but me managed to capitalise on the mistakes they made to take our chances. Once the second was scored we saw the game out with relative ease as Stevenages heads dropped.

Stevenage were improved on last year, but they didn't have enough nous up front I thought. They managed to limit us to long range efforts in the first half, but I always thought we had enough in our extra gear to get a goal.

Exeter and Bolton at home next this week for us, Exeter on Tuesday in particular is a big test to see how far this side has come. I'd like to think we'll be unchanged again.

Carlisle didn't have a single shot in the second half, even though we kept giving them the ball as we tried to play out from the back. Or we just fouled them in dangerous positions to allow balls to be floated into our box; our two central defenders were brilliant at defending, one scored our goal too.

We were 1-0 up at half time and managed to score a really bizarre own goal for them right after the re-start.

We were very poor today by the standards of our previous games this season - to be fair Bolton looked pretty decent, especially Sarcevic and Santos; not quite sure why they are down so low...

Bolton 'goal' correctly ruled out, why their forward passed it to someone in an offside position when he had a clear shot at goal himself is beyond me.

Poor ref mind, made it difficult for both sides...
haha you and assistant referee need to go to specsavers......a full yard onside

I would respectfully point out to Bottega Don that, back in the 70s due to illness Exeter were unable to raise even a squad to travel to Scunthorpe.

Despite appeals, not only did we forfeit the points but the odious Bob Lord added insult to injury by imposing a punitive fine...£5 k was a chunky penalty for a Div 4 club in those days and, in fact, I think even the "mighty Spurs" were fined less in similar circumstances.

Still, at least we managed to reclaim the points today. Small mercies!

See you managed to get 8 games out of Page before he got injured, FairPlay

Was really looking forward to see the moneyball Bolton Wanderers team I’ve read so much about but it turns out that their only bright areas are the 3k+ p/w players they handpicked from last season’s promoted teams

Battered you today...Great goal wrongly chalked off
Then the best team goal that you have ever seen at the abbey stadium in the last twenty years
feel free to point another out better

At the moment you are higher in the league than us....enjoy it while it lasts
ps the goal that was scratched off was better than anything you have done all season
