Not sure if anyone gives a shit but yesterday we were given planning permission for our new stadium. I'm undecided on whether or not I want it, it can be exciting but it's just going to look even more empty than GP does.

Oddly enough, I am not even sure. I think it's going to be somewhere behind our current stadium with a road coming off the M180 to get to it.

How are you building a whole stadium for £18M? Our rebuild is 2 1/2 times that (£45M). Seems very cheap TBH.

It is probably cheaper to build something from scratch? We've had to do a lot of extra work.

Also hopefully City are using better material
etc.

That looks pretty good! Seems to be in the middle of nowhere though a la Stadium MK.

People say its in the middle of nowhere but it's the same distance from the station than a lot of other grounds in the league, has pubs on the way and a bar at the ground

More expensive than a number of stadiums to be honest. Colchesters cost £14m, Chesterfield £13m, Oxford £15m, Rotherham £20m, Doncaster £20m. So £18m is pretty standard in terms of cost for a stadium in the 10-15k capacity range.

As Techno says, ours must be more expensive as it's a rebuild rather than a new build plus materials, fittings etc. I was just shocked by the difference in costs TBH.

Great! :conf:
Not exactly Brentford with a boozer in every corner is it? It's not a criticism by the way, it's just modern football!

I don't get it. What do you want instead, a Tesco?

Supermarkets are made by the spawn of Satan SA. I can't stand the bloody places and my Mrs works for Asda!
I just like the traditions that come with the older grounds TBH.

Your new stadium looks decent Don but why move again? It doesn't seem that long ago when you last moved?

Glanford Park is a heap of shit tbh.

Plus, if we ever do get back to the Championship we will need to remove the terrace (which is Glanford Park's saving grace) as we have previously spent 3 years there. This would cut the capacity down and just make the stadium even worse. Our Chairman is ambitious and wants us to have a new stadium and to become a sustainable Championship side.

I don't think we need it either, but the land value of GP must be going up as the Retail Park expands(and unfortunately, the Town Centre Declines). That will offset some of the costs. It's tied in with a big project the Local Council have to build more houses in the area.

People slate GP but it was paid for with our own money and unlike a couple of our neighbours we didn't have to go begging to the Council for a free shiny new ground. it keeps you dry in the wet and its comfortable.

When we moved to Glanford Park, it was in the middle of nowhere. Today it is in Frodingham Grange, which is a big retail area just outside Scuntorpe. The value of the land has shot up considerably and we own that 100%.

Preferably not in Scunthorpe.
Glanford Park is not in Scunthorpe and the new stadium will be even further out. Suits both parties, Scum. You lot will be further away from Scunny and we will not have massed armies of scum from MK wrecking what is left of Scunny.

Sorry, where is this stadium going be located exactly?
As you leave the M180 and join the short M181 motorway heading north, the complex will be built on the LHS about half way down to the end of the motorway. The M181 is to be downgraded to A-class and a second road will be built, running E-W connecting the complex to the town.

MK Dons is a tremendous stadium. I don't like the distance away from the action, but I do like the seats. The stewarding and facilities are excellent. Location is a problem for me because I suffer from vertigo. I would much prefer it located at an M1 junction. Certainly, it would save in road rage and abuse and incessant horning as drivers leaving the match have to follow me going at 10mph through MK to get to M1. Damned circles as we say up in Scunny. Roundabouts to you.

I'll answer this one. We moved in 1988 from the Old Show Ground to Glanford Park. We had spent several years in the 1950's and 1960's in the old Second Division and the Old Show Ground was of that standard. Two terraces behind the goal and two seating areas down the side. The ground was virtually all covered and we had the first ever cantilever stand in the country. We declined in stature through the 1970's and 1980's and with maintenance bills skyrocketing and more and more safety regulations coming in force, it was an unsustainable position to hold onto a good facility like that for a football team that languished in Division 4. So we sold to Safeway supermarket chain and built Glanford Park for 2.5 million quid. There was a bit left over from the Old Show Ground sale, but Glanford Park was built as cheap as possible and many corners were cut. It was built outside of Scunthorpe in the borough of Glanford, hence the name. It is important to note that we had to do all this ourselves. There were no football grants available back then, they came in later and most new stadiums or new football facilities following us were awarded grants. We never saw a penny. Fast forward to today and Glanford Park and its surrounds are worth quadruple what we paid for it. BUT, the Glanford Park structure is a liability in several ways. Maintenance and repair costs on an aging facility are high and refurbishment is hardly cost effective. With our recent seasons in the Championship we have seen additional costs arising from improved TV hosting facilities, upgrading lighting, improving executive and hospitality affairs. Plus as Don says, if we get back into the Championship, we will have to change the home terrace into seating to meet Championship regulations. Anyone forward looking can see the need for a change.

I note my fellow Scunny fans have reservations about moving to a new ground. Indeed, there are not alone. There are plenty of Scunny fans who fall into that category. For myself, this move should have been done long ago. The previous Chairman to the one we have now was a good book keeper. Unfortunately he did not have a business development mantra and thus fell short on progressive ideas etc. In order to progress the business, something had to be done. Increasing revenue was a non-starter in terms of attendance numbers and we have only ever filled Glanford Park once. To build the business, we need to increase revenue, first and foremost. Having the collateral of Glanford Park, we could move quickly and efficiently and cost effectively. The new venue will have multiple restaurant and catering facilities, a gym, community pitches and training facilities for the club and others. There will also be a hotel. The stadium comes eco-friendly and that will become more and more important in the years ahead. If we achieve a push on running costs versus venue revenue, we can support team building from attendance numbers. Increasing revenue further means returning to the Championship. Not only will home support increase, but we will be able to accommodate more away fans than the 2,200 maximum we can do today. If the Chairman and the Manager can pull these feats off, it will be tremendous for the club. Financing should not be a problem and we always have Glanford Park that is worth around half of the new build costs. It is a sensible and logical move for us and as I have absolutely no sentimental feelings for Glanford Park, the sooner the better. If the teams secure a place in the middle 8 of League 1 next season, then hopefully that will be a springboard for a promotion push in the season we move into the new stadium.

Looks pretty decent TBF.

I love the arch, and that once inside it's done as separate stands.
