How are you building a whole stadium for £18M? Our rebuild is 2 1/2 times that (£45M). Seems very cheap TBH.

Ours (well the Wasps now) cost £120m.

Was sold to Wasps for nowhere near that.

You should never have moved PUSB. It's been down hill since you left Highfield Rd and it would have still looked decent today.

Good luck with the stadium and hope it all goes smoothly! Too many issues with getting anything built nowadays. Looks like a nice one too.

Once built, it'd be good to check out - come see us in the Championship :)

Odd to think that the first newer generation new build stadium in the country is now itself going to be replaced. Have only been to Glanford Park once but understand the reasoning behind it. Good luck, just getting the permissions and everything in place to actually start is an achievement in itself these days.

There are so many obstacles to overcome. It's never easy to get anything done from the business administration side.

Can I just say congratulations to you and your lot down on the coast. Bit belated, but good show on the club and the team. Enjoyed my trips to Bournemouth and met some good folk, except for a steward on the away gate once. Dead Brain was his name. Or was it Brain Dead?.

I'll look out for you topping the Premier League early on. Deja vu?

You are right. 10 years ago yesterday since we left.

Downhill since!

27 years for a ground is a short life span.. Has there been any other grounds that's had similar or less time?

Fully understand why Scunthorpe need the new ground. Shrewsbury and Chesterfield are the model smaller clubs to follow on from when bringing a new ground, it re-ignited interest in their respective towns and both have doubled their fanbase and are miles away from where they were 10 years ago.

However there's always the risk you could do a Colchester and stagnate. So I don't know where Scunthorpe will end up as a result of this but at least the ground looks a lot nicer!

Endless amounts in America, but in England, Sittingbourne had a smart ground in the non-leagues but couldn't afford the rent and think they lasted a few years? (Gills fans help me on this one!)

That vanity project AFC £ylde are also moving out of their ground they've only been in a couple of years sometime next year.

The build area is on a flood plain isn't it?

Sittingbourne's ground was dreadful in every way, an object lesson in how to piss millions of pounds up a wall. Bad build, bad design, bad location... The works.

We've announced who's building the stadium today.

It will be built by the Buckingham Group who are the same people who worked on the Copper Box, Stadium MK and the Amex Stadium in Brighton.

Guarantees a quality build then. Great appointment.

"ICYMI: One of the leading stadium contractors in the UK has been appointed to turn the Frank Whittle Partnership’s vision for the Iron's new home into reality. Buckingham Group Contracting will carry out the building work on the striking state-of-the-art stadium. The contractor was appointed by the club in conjunction with FWP. They have a strong track record of building world-class sports facilities. The company, which is based near Silverstone in Northamptonshire, has a portfolio of high-profile work including Silverstone Wing, The Copper Box - made famous during the London 2012 Olympics – Stadium MK and the Amex Stadium in Brighton. We hope to move into the state-of-the-art 12,000 capacity all-seater ground for the start of the 2016-17 season after being given the green light for the development by North Lincolnshire Council. The stadium is part of a masterplan for a multi-million pound out-of-town football and leisure development created by FWP’s architecture and design team for the club on a site near its present Glanford Park ground. The overall FWP plan also includes a 100-bed hotel, a multi-use indoor arena; community sports pitches and, potentially, indoor and outdoor bowling facilities. Our new home will also have club and executive facilities, a gym, office space and areas for commercial development as well as a club venue and supporters’ bar. A sweeping curve on the main stand designed by FWP is enhanced by a striking truss that pays homage to Scunthorpe’s steelwork history."

All sounds pretty good and I am very glad we're really getting on with it quickly.

Many Scunny fans believe the final cost will be double the original cost, more in line with your number. I'm not in the Civil Engineering world, so am pretty ignorant of what potentially the final cost will be. In my world, when we budget an item that is going to be built, we attempt to achieve 90% certainty that he amount will cover the costs. On top of that, we carry a 10% sole contingency (no partner approval required). When things seriously run over cost, we find it is either a supply problem or design flaw or revision based on most up to date information or a commodity price change. If any of these things go wonky with Scunny's new stadium build, then I can see the cost escalating.

Indeed it is Luke. But then Glanford Park and Frodingham Grange are all built on the same plain. Plus the new Lakeside homes and amenities project will be built around the stadium on the plain as well. We have to assume that as much as possible has been done to mitigate the effects on high waters in the Trent.

From a practical point of view, the Trent has embankments on the ground facing side and much of the riverbank there is reinforced and protected for the rail and road bridge and Scunthorpe's river ports, comprising several wharves. The Dutch irrigation masters drained the whole area very effectively and with a series of drains and canals supported by modern sluice gates, it is pretty well protected. Not too long ago, the River Humber broke its banks and the Trent was not affected too badly. Certainly the plain did not flood. The main threat of flooding will come from the Humber estuary.

It will flood one day. Nature tells us so. I have not seen the data of whether we are looking at a 1 in a 100 year flood or whatever, but one day that plain will flood. If we get wet, maybe you would let us ground share with our capital cousins, at least until we dry out. Give you a chance to see some proper football for a change  :bg:

Or a Rotherham and get promoted twice in 2 season.

Ours had an added buzz that we'd played at an Athletics stadium in another city for 4 year and our new ground is in a quality location but still, a new stadium will be good for Scunny.

Hate to break it to you but Valley Parade isn't a new build stadium. I see that you aren't a graduate in architecture, or anything probably.
