Good to get the football back, can't wait for Sunday. See it as an ideal time to play Villa, they haven't really brought many in and if their squad last season is anything to go on i'd fancy us to win it. We've had a pretty impressive pre-season and playing some lovely football along the way. Looking to build on last season and hopefully go one step further.

4-0 Wednesday (Forrestieri 2, Hooper, Lee)

That's opening day optimism!

It's finally here after a very long summer, Wednesday have had an impressive summer performing well in the friendlies and bringing in some added quality while not losing any players. Villa are also fancied this season and have made a few solid additions, wether it will be enough to stop the rot of last season remains to be seen. Looking forward to the game, should be a good crowd and atmosphere.

Our line up is still difficult to call, I'll have a go though...

Gollini
Hutton Elphick Baker Bennett
Bacuna Gardner Westwood Grealish
Ayew
McCormack

That'd be my guess, can only see me being wrong regarding midfielders as that's all over the place right now, Gestede may get a start (though he looked about 3 yards off pace during pre-season), and left back is certainly up for grabs between Cissokho, Bennett and Amavi, though I don't think Amavi is fit enough yet, thus me putting Bennett in.

Hey! I weren't far off. Looks like Ayew is playing on the wing?

Definitely, both are thankfully fine though.

We've been shite to be totally honest, Wednesday been by far the better team. Hope we wake up a bit 2nd half. Biggest positive is that it appears we know how to fucking defend this season. Nice change from last season in that area at least. I can see Elphick quickly becoming a fan favourite though, he's been great.

Yet again an individual error fucks it up for us. Just when we were dominating and looking most likely to score. :ffs:

Really enjoyed that fantastic atmosphere and a decent game too, felt a draw would have been a fair result as neither side really created any clear cut chances. Hoewever an individual mistake was punished by Fernando Forestieri who doesn't miss chances like that. Thought Kieran Lee had a good game for us as did Lees and Hutchinson at the back dealt with Gestede very well. Barry Bannan had a little bit of an off day but not to worry he'll get better, as for Villa they looked better defensively than last season but remains to be seen if they can challenge at the right end. All in all thrilled with that, great start now onto Cambridge on Tuesday night!

Looked a great sight on the telly a full Hillsborough. Good advertisement for the Championship, who'd want to watch the likes of Hull v West Brom over that. Both teams will be up there at the end of the season no doubt.

Dunno, at least we pretended we could defend today.

Yeah I suppose mate. Tommy Elphick is a cracking signing. Warrior like. Reminds me of Martin Laursen
Saw enough in the second half to feel somewhat positive. We could have bagged a few. Just a shit mistake by our goalie (who had a good game overall) and Wednesday pounced

Yup. Elphick looks fantastic, could well become a fan favourite very quickly.

Indeed regarding the 2nd half, Wednesday defended like beavers (good ol' Kamara) and just managed to keep us out. Keep playing like the 2nd half and cut out silly mistakes and we'll be alright this season.

Tommy absolutely loves any sort of 'backs to the wall' type traditional defending, it's his bread and butter.

Dominant first half without creating anything, villa defended well, 2nd half we rode our look but pounced when we got our chance. Villa were better than I expected tbh and I think they'll be up the right end of the table based on yesterday as will we
