...here, :-

http://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/parachute-payment-changes.8313/

and was wondering how this might be affected by the potential increase in Sky TV money for 2016/17? ie it's been banded about that worldwide rights could potentially increase by as much as 70% and this would filter down from the Premiership to League 2.

What I'm confused about is the difference between the Sky? solidarity payment, (is this TV rights?), the Football League payment and the Youth Development payment. Which is which, where does each pot of money come from and could anyone give 'current figures' of these amounts from FL Championship, FL 1 and FL 2?

At present I'm guessing that for League 2 these are about £440K, £250K and £180K but obviously I'd like to hear some more knowledgeable replies. Living in an area where level 5 football has become the norm. - and with so many teams seeming to really struggle getting back to the League - are the likes of Lincoln City, Grimsby Town and many others, (without any consolidation payments), be coming up against next years relegated teams with what could be £440K + 70% = £748K + some youth money?

Obviously stand to be corrected etc. and know there's quite a bit to take in and reply to but would be very interested in views. In my books £748K as a head start equates to an 'overall average' £10 ticket which would mean about 3,200 extra folk through the gate for each home game, as a bonus! (Do realise there are other expenses at clubs but then they all have these).

The short answer is yes.

Teams coming down from League 2 are going to be better equipped to go straight back up than ever before.

As far as I'm aware you lose the cut of the premiership TV money if you get relegated.
From next year relegated clubs will be about £530k (£440k league parachute + £90k academy) better off in their first year than those in the conf and £310k better off the second year.

Current figures for the TV solidarity money are Champ £2.3m, Lge1 £360k, Lge2 £240k.
The figures from the TV money aren't finalised as far as I know but the structure is.
Championship sides will get 6% of the base amount a Premiership side gets.
League one will get 0.9%
League Two get 0.6%

Last year the base premiership TV money was £64m per club, if this increases to £100m then Championship sides get £6m, League 1 get £900k, League 2 get £600k.

The financial gap is going to end up like the Prem and Championship.

Yes but how many teams actually manage to go straight back up when they get relegated from the Prem? Even less likely in National League with 2 up 2 down.

If Forest Green & Eastleigh both don't go up this season, next year is a write off for most teams. When Ebbsfleet are up next season they'll make Eastleigh look like the good guys. Their Conference South side would probably finish mid-table in League 2, I dread to think the standard of players they'll be signing next season.

Is the reason none of this Sky money filters down to the National League because of the BT Sport deal? Would we be better off financially if we scrapped live games on BT in order to get a few bob off Sky?

The BT live games pay a paltry £6000 to the home side, £1000 to the visitors.

I think the top 6 or 7 in this league would also finish at least mid table in L2.
Look where Bristol Rovers are in L2 now. That's achievable for quite a few clubs at this level, but the hard part is getting to L2.

Sutton will catch Ebbsfleet and win the Conf South title anyway & they have a 3G pitch, so not sure how that will end up if they did win it & get auto promotion?

No chance. So do Maidstone who are second - pretty sure the National League allows 3G pitches

TV will certainly cost us more than £6000 on Friday.

150 less Lincoln fans I'd imagine which is £2,500 straight away. Longest possible point from pay day for many so those waiting for the next pay packet will just watch it in the local pub and probably knock another 400-500 off. It'll be a 4,600 gate instead of low to mid 5000's.

Agree with this.

If we're still here next season, which is unlikely imo, we'll already have the core of a side that have been head and shoulders above anyone else in this league, (other then Cheltenham obviously).

If planning permission has been granted by then for our new stadium/leisure & business park complex then I think Vince will step up spending to whatever it takes to ensure promotion next season, adding top quality to an already very strong successful squad. On that basis I think we'd be strong favourites and very difficult for anyone to compete with, even if Eastleigh and Ebbsfleet up their budgets.

We'd probably run with a bigger budget next season if we're in the National League then we would if we're in League 2.

That is fairly presumptuous and, whilst I am optimistic that we will finish the season champions, I worry about the play-offs if we don't go straight up. We have a team that is playing at a similar standard and style as the end of last season, that then failed to show up at all over two legs against the Gas, who says that we aren't in for a repeat performance as many of the players are the same?

Well with that sort of attitude we wont go up. Have some confidence and belief man!

Last season we scraped into the play-offs on the last day of the season.

This year we'd sealed at least a play-off place by the end of February. We're a different beast this time.

Starting to think we might well win the league outright, momentum is starting to swing our way. But if not we are head and shoulders above anyone we might face in the play-offs if it comes to it, we just need to show belief and prove it.

Then onwards to Paris!

Many thanks for all the replies btw. but particularly the above. Hardly any wonder that so many 'newish' clubs seem a much more attractive committment for any money people when older League teams might be harbouring ongoing debts. Suppose they are using this as an advertising vehicle to promote existing companies?

One other thing - might sound daft - but I'm guessing that your 2nd para is about the Premiership TV money which will go up and is what relegated clubs lose whereas the £440K + youth money comes direct from the Football League as a parachute payment.

You can shoot me down!, but does it all really come from Sky anyway and they allow the FL a pot to dish out separate from Prem TV money.

Yeah we also kept the core of our team that was better than any other team left in this league (After Barnet and Bristol R went up) and we're stuck in third place miles behind.
Previous seasons mean sod all, just ask Wrexham and Kidderminster.

Remember Sky has a deal with the Football League as well though and they show quite a lot of games (mainly involving Leeds).

So I can't see why scrapping the deal with BT would make any difference, unless Sky pick up the coverage. Doubt they would want to cover the National League though, they weren't interested after the Setanta collapse and even when they had the rights about 10 years ago they hardly showed any games. Think we got on once, away at Burton. Clive Walker kept calling us Morecambe.
