So what have I to look forward too on my travels next season?

If you're an away fan visiting Wrexham, I'd advise giving both Wetherspoons, the long pull and the cross foxes (unless the police force you in there) a miss. You'll find rough characters in all 4 who won't take too kindly to away supporters wandering in. If you must visit one of these 4 (personally I wouldn't recommend any), keep yourself to yourself.

Come to Pools and drink in The Corner Flag, literally in the corner of the ground, cheap, social club vibe, away fan friendly, drink anywhere else and you might get knacked and I'm only half joking.
Corner Flag is a good shout and I am/was occasionally in there. I do the rat race for a couple of nice beers (if real ale is your thing) then on to Corner Flag or Millhouse.

Failing that 6 pack from Asdas and wonder round the marina if the sun's out.

Yep probably my favourite away day of all our time in non league Halifax, even getting pumped on the pitch didn’t spoil it.
I remember the Tuesday night game where we won 4-0 or 4-1 I think it was? Dan Gardner put in potentially the best individual performance I’ve ever seen at this level. He absolutely tore you to pieces that night.

Then there was the 4-1 game at the Shay we all thought we had no chance of winning the season we got relegated. Think we lost 7-0 earlier in the season at your place with the deluded Darren Kelly in charge so it was quite a turn around.

Last time I went to Hartlepool, our fans took over one of the Wetherspoons and any of the locals who tried anything were turfed out by police. Some of your lot were outraged.

I'm guessing there were similar scenes when Chesterfield were given the Cross Foxes last time they came to Wrexham. The time before that, the police made some of their fans drink in a social club in Ewloe which is a 20 minute drive from our ground.

Yeah this was the one I went to (it was actually 4-2), had a great time in Halifax before the game then only just got in the ground in time for kick off and watched us go 3-0 down inside half an hour.
We buggered off 5 minutes from the end and ended up missing 3 goals too.

We were a decent team again by then, despite what clown ShayShite thinks. Relegated by a point, the damage was done at the start of the season, winning only one in ten and then disintegrating under Darren Kelly, shipping two 7s, a 6 and a 4 in the next 10 games.... :dk:

I was in the pub around 100 yards away & the Wetherspoons lot came in spitting feathers,it was funny really,as it happens when we take over a pub at away games.
Our respective hooligans kicked the shit out of each near Tesco.

One of my mates (and possibly the nicest guy I know) got headbutted to the floor by some idiot right outside the ground. Police were utterly useless, waiting for us to retaliate while the man ran off without the police giving chase. Didn't check up on my mate either.

I don't hold it against Hartlepool fans though, every club has their idiots.

Maidenhead not known for its night life, but Town Centre ground very near the Station and a few half decent pubs.
Importantly, no one out to give you a good kicking either.

We do have a number of rarfs, particularly when proper clubs visit but a lot of fans I've met watching Pools away say its a good day out. Never been as an away fan obviously but as you say train is near, a number of pubs and places to eat and the marina is quite nice for a walk if that's you're thing.

Living in Shropshire I have Wrexham, Solihull Moors, Notts County and Altrincham close (ish). All been visited before.

Wrexham, shitty pubs in the actual town, but the excellent Bridge End Inn at Ruabon is a must for me before (and after) the game).

Solihull Moors, what a pain to get too by public transport, liked their clubroom but I doubt they will let us in this time (it was a night crappy cup match when we've played them the once).

Notts County, plenty of decent pubs in Notts of course, so no problem getting a few pints in when visiting.

Altrincham, not so good pub wise but I have stopped off at the little Dunham Massey Brewery and buy a load of bottles on the two occasions we've played them.

Please list the best places for safe awayday pubs near your grounds: No replies needed from fans of Torquay, Stockport County, Chesterfield, Daggers and Redbridge, Woking, Aldershot or Barnet.

Cheers!
If you like a decent pint The Hop And Vine is the place before a Stones game.

Depends where you are in Shropshire, we could car share.

I had one of my favourite days out there a couple of seasons ago, might have been lost game of the season.

Sorted a coach for some mates and we set off about 7am so was absolute carnage come kick off. Lost the deposit on the bus such was the mess on the way home. Good day out and plenty of boozers - not sure they were too impressed with 50 of us marching round though

Weymouth was comfortably my favourite away day of 2019-20 when we could go to away games, loads of pubs on the seafront and by the harbour so really can't go wrong there. Again it helps that we played them on August Bank Holiday Monday, the weather was superb and we won 4-3. Top weekender.

As for us - Ruislip is fairly barren for pubs, I'd imagine our clubhouse will be off limits when Grimsby visit which is a shame. There's a typical 'Spoons opposite Ruislip Manor Station and a couple of pubs by Ruislip station (both 5-10 minute walk from the ground).

If you're travelling into Central London first then there are plenty of options there before taking the Met Line up to Ruislip, it's around 35 minutes from Baker Street.
The best pub in Ruislip is a small micro place, but it’s small and the owners might just limit it to our fans. It’s busy enough on a Saturday with the lunchtime crowd and Stones fans.

Ok, don’t tell him. Will be interesting what H&V do pre match once fans are allowed back in. Think they be sensible in making a booked only event.

What about the Nuclear Power Station. Surely on the Lonely Planet Guide to Hartlepool?

Blimey.....50 of you.
That doubles the takings on a normal Saturday night in Maidenhead Boozers.

Not many in Yeovil, The Arrow and The Bell are the nearest. The Wetherspoons in the town centre is having a roof terrace built at some point but the locals keep saying it's a stupid idea as all that will happen is people will get thrown off it.

Grimsby it's self is pretty dire for good pubs but Cleethorpes (where we actually play of course) has improved greatly over the last few years, even if we have lost a few pubs.

Willy's brewpub and the pub on the railway platform are the best two with Message In a Bottle another option, it's a beer shop with a tasting area (and cask ales). All are a long walk from the ground though. Fish & Chips near the ground are not so good, again a long walk away is the excellent 'Steels', it's a none bookable plaice (sic) (sit in only) that's just a wonderful throwback. Be prepared to queue, get there early!
Steels is good if you come on the train and want to eat before the match for those put off by the mention of long walk there, it's close to the station. Also a fan of The Coliseum, as far as Spoons go. Suntrap terrace on the top and cheap pints if you're one of the lucky ones that gets us away when it's alright weather.

While Steels is great non Grimsby folk would be happy with the chippy next to the ground, despite being poor by Grimsby standards it will be amazing to everybody else, as they only have chippys that have never heard of scraps, sell frozen birds eye fishcakes and give you a funny look if you ask for gravy on your chips

The Bridge is a great pub for real ales. Right by train station into town too.

Oh, something else that you might not know: WE DO NOT EAT COD. It's a bottom feeder, so always full of worms and 'shit'. WE EAT HADDOCK. You will have to ask for Cod if you must have it, but expect a strange look when you order it.

With Sutton doing their best to throw it away, if Torquay and Hartlepool could get promoted the longest journey for me, driving, next season is Wrexham, pretty much bang on a 4 hour trip. Be a shame to lose Torquay as an away day though.
I've been to Hartlepool 3 times already, for some unknown reason, including a Tuesday night. Agree that the marina is nice. Highlight of all 3 trips was a Saturday one where I'd parked up in some side road with houses and a corner shop. Got approached by some kids who looked about 10, one girl says "go in the shop and buy us some wine" my response was "no" to which I got told "eurgh you're just another c***, I hope you die"

I've done a lot of the trips already, and will go back to a few places. Does Stockport still have that real ale place, The Railway is it? That is a wonderful pub.
Altrincham, which I haven't been to, is a must with this Belgian Beer place and I've heard it has a really good chippy as well. Plus close to Manchester, so maybe Football Museum first, onto Alty then back into Manchester.

Looking forward to B2TF showing me round Halifax, can we go in Eureka?
