Admittedly I'm a bit of a SIMPLETON when it comes to technology but I don't understand how people manage to do any internet stuff on their phones other than LIGHT BROWSING (I struggle to even do this competently). Anything else just seems like far too much of a FAFF to me

I managed to get a Game Boy emulator to work and play Pokémon games on my phone. A major reassement came soon after.

I use my smartphone to peruse here as well when I'm afk from the keyboard (whenever I type 'thus' instead of 'this' then you know I'm on my S4!) and there is nothing wrong with looking at it from time to time; but it appears to be a constant companion for many people now, and that thought scares the shit out of me for the future generations.
Didn't you know that every iPhone comes with a voucher that entitles you to have it surgically attached to you within a week of owning one. I saw one such pillock this morning holding up the breakfast queue whilst he checked FB on his iPhone.

Anyone else noticed more people using them at traffic lights and therefore not moving when green until people behind them beep?

How dare she label new humans as babies or toddlers, who is she to impose identity on those that can't yet decide their own? God I hate conformity.

I had this debate (briefly, before it became apparent it wasn't up for debate) with someone who will immediately shout down someone for assuming the pronoun they prefer. If a stranger meets them for the first time and refers to them as he/she (as opposed to a gender neutral word) they will get really annoyed and offended. I can see why it may be annoying and offensive to them but sometimes I think you just have to accept that that is how it will be (for now) and that people haven't purposefully insulted you. The alternatives may be ideal but would require a huge change in societies mindset that isn't about to happen and getting annoyed at people straight away is not the answer. They believe that people should always ask others what their prefered pronoun is first, to be honest I think if I went up to several of the women I know and asked what pronoun they prefer (or what gender they are) I'd end up with a slap!

A tricky issue as it is no doubt already difficult for people to realise they are not cis, as it is to realise you aren't hetero. However I cant help but feel people can go OTT and unwittingly damage their own cause sometimes.

The militant ones tend to be young students with a me against the world attitude. They've read a bit of queer theory and now they're setting the world to rights. A lot of us have done something similar when young and idealistic. Still, funny to take the piss out of.

It's the logical consistency that bothers me. The same people who argue that gender is innate when it comes to trans issues then go on to argue that it's a social construct when it comes to feminist issues. Well which is it? You can't have it both ways.

I can't. Just fucking deal with it (them not you). If you look like a he you'll get a he, look like a she you'll be referred to as such. If you take offence to that then you're really just looking to be offended, perhaps so you can sound off about who you are when nobody really gives a fuck.

You can if you're a hermaphrodite.

I think in a way its the constant having to 'come out' and explain yourself to people. Similar to other LGBT people it is tiring and it would make things a lot easier and you feel more welcome if people didn't assume you were Cis Hetero...but when the majority of people are then I accept that's going to be the assumption. I have a lesbian friend and she is constantly referred to as a 'guy' and it she loves it when people go with 'girl' instead, she doesn't complain and has learnt to deal with it...i can totally understand though that someone getting your gender wrong can be annoying. My friends is a cis/homo issue as opposed to the trans issues raised earlier but hope it makes sense!

My favourite thing about that tweet is the implication that babies are desperate to tell us their gender identity and the only thing holding them back is their inability to talk.

Exactly, if you make an assumption and it turns out to be wrong then you learn from it and don't do it again with the same person. The alternative, of asking every single person you meet about the terms they like to use to refer to themselves before you can have a normal conversation, seems incredibly tiresome.
