Had an idea for a game, mainly because I always miss the drum n bass offs that the clique in the Shoutbox are apparently always having.

The version of this that they play in the Shoutbox is fairly straight forward. A genre or style is set and then each participant posts a link to a Youtube video relating to this genre. An allotted judge will then pick his favourite of the posted tunesand a point will go to whoever posted it. Poster with the most points after x amount of rounds is obviously the winner.

As I always miss this, I want to run of version of this in a thread. Ideally, we'll have 32 participants and you'll be drawn into groups of four. Top 2 from each go through to the second, from there on out it's a straight knock out and England lose on penalties. We all know the format. The difference in this game is gonna be that everyone will be able to vote, instead of having just one judge. I'll post full details if I can garner enough interest in here. If I can't get 32, then 16 will be enough as we can have do it like the Euros. It's intended purely to be a little bit of fun and as a way of both hopefully broadening your musical horizons and generating some interest in the music forum (posted this in here as it will get more notice hopefully, will take it to the music forum if there is sufficient interest).

I just want simple "I'm in" style comments here, but only from people who will actually join and participate fully.

I'll have a go, SoC.

The drum 'n' bass round is going to be my cold rainy night in Stoke though.

Cheers for the interest guys. That's 7 so far. Thinking about how this will be run, I actually think 16 is a much more manageable number. 32 would essentially double the work load of the group stages. Natch, you should be able to get involved in that case too. So, the next 9 to sign up in here will complete the lineup.

Sorry, made a mistake there. Van Der Graaf was number 16, although still not sure on Scumarmy.? If he isn't actually in then Stevencc gets the last spot. Murphy you'll have to go on standby.

The way it's going to work is like this...

You'll be drawn into groups of 4. There'll be a separate thread for each group in the Music forum. You will each face off against the other three people in your group one time. Each time you will be PM'd a different genre or year. You will then reply via PM with a Youtube video of your choice of song/tune for that genre/year. It doesn't have to be an official music video, as long as the audio is clear. We're not judging which song/tune has the best video, it's purely about musical content here. Your choice will then be posted in your group thread. Each song/tune posted will be in its own post and it will be clearly detailed which other song/tune it is facing off against. Once the videos have been posted, it's up to you guys to click the like button for your favourite song/tune in each matchup. The poster whose choice has the most likes at the end of an allotted time period (I'm thinking 24 hours initially for the first round, but we'll see how it plays out) will get three points. There will also be points for, against and difference columns in the group stages. So for example, if your tune gets 7 likes and your opponent's gets 11 then you'll be getting -4 in the points difference column. In the event of group stage ties we'll decide first using point differences, second how you fared in your matchup(s) against the opponent(s) you're tied with and third by points for.

You're free to vote for your own song/tune and if you really feel like doing so you can vote for both songs/tunes in a matchup, however that isn't really of any use to anyone. Anybody across the entire forum can vote and I will be using my status function and the shout box to try and get non-participants voting. You can also do the same, but don't push people to vote for your specific song/tune. I want to keep the choices anonymous so as not to incite clique/friendship voting. If I catch you posting stuff like "like this tune by The Streets in this post" then you'll get a red card and you'll be docked 5 likes from your total in the current and following round.

The top two from each group go through to the Quarter Finals. In the Quarter Finals, the format remains the same however you will match up against your opponent 3 times. For one of these match ups you will be given a genre/year to make your choice from. For the other, you will choose a genre/year and for the remaining matchup your opponent will choose a genre/year. The winner of each matchup is the poster with the highest total of likes. In the event of a tie in any knockout stage, we will play an additional round with the genre/year being chosen by myself.

Semis will be in the same format as the Quarters, but you'll face off against your opponent 5 times (3 my choices of genre/year and 1 for each of the participants).

Same format again in the final, but you'll do it 7 times (3 of my choices of genre/year, 2 each from the participants).

No 3rd place playoff.

The most important thing here is for the participants to be putting in effort and liking as many choices as they can. Any interest we can muster up from those not participating will be great. However, those playing the game need to get involved to make this work.

The groups are as follows...

Group A
MSB92
Stagat
JJH
TomPNE94

Group B
Dave
Leewilson
StagsForLife
The Hand of Dom

Group C
Aberstone

Group D

You'll all be receiving a PM shortly.

Cool, just waiting on Scumbo. With that in mind, I'm only gonna be sending PMs out to those of you in Groups A-C right now. Group D will have to wait until we know who has that spot.

I was originally planning to be in this but I think Stevencc should have my place because I will probably forget to post or some shizzle so for that reason...

Two rules questions:
1. What happens if two people pick the same thing?
2. Who decides whether a song is within the genre required?

Are you sure??

Good questions. I hadn't even thought about the first one. I doubt that will happen, but if it does then the only thing to really do would be for both participants to choose again. We could just say that the poster of the later of the two PMs received should change, but I actually think that that gives an advantage to this person as they could tailor their choice to counteract their initial choice. With regards to whether something is within the specified genre or not, I'll make the call. If I'm not sure, I'll ask for a second and third opinion from an impartial poster. I'll be applying a bit of flexibility to this though, so don't worry about it too much. Everything I've had so far has been fine.

Cheers for the quick responses for those of you who have already PM'd. I'm currently at work, but when I get back later I'll get the threads started if I've got both choices from any matchups in. Will get the Group D PMs sent out too.
