Seeing as we'll be playing in this division - what do I need to know? Tough? Fun? Hopefully have some derbies or local teams?

Now hey, enough of that you big fairy!

It's too early for defeatist ramblings, you must continue to do the honourable thing and fight to the last, it is your duty to ensure the Natural Order is adhered to and with Stevenage, Crawley and Barrow stinking up the league you cannot give in!

Stop being a fanny and fuck off back to the L2 board.

Fight it, Relegation here is the last thing you need.

Walk off the end of the pier will be much more enjoyable.

Pull yourself together Brother.

Anyway, you’d get a reprieve probably through the AGM Cup, there’s usually a tinpotter going bust somewhere along the line.

Sadly it's most likely to be us going bust

Welcome to the Graveyard Leeague. You'll waste your parachute payment clearing debts, then spend the next ten years stuck here, assuming you don't get relegated again.

I wouldn't put it past us to do a Stockport or York

You’ll have a great time assuming fans can go again and you go into it with the right attitude.

I know the original post was before the sad news of the passing of Cambridge United fan Simon dobbin was announced but it seems now that its bad taste to have sympathetic comments about a club that had 20 odd of their fans attack and ultimately kill another.
Sad world...rip mucker

It seems that it'll be two of us, Oldham, Scunthrope, Mansfield, and Bolton for the drop this season, with us and Scunthrope the most precarious of the five.

Awful story obviously, but not sure you can really hold the whole of Southend responsible.

What a chuckle it would be to see the Thames Estuary Galacticos down here after all the pantie pissing they did over ‘Floodlightgate’ a few years back.

I'm sure Scunthorpe were relegated here last season, they were posting up new threads on this section when they were 2-0 down first game of the season.

Not sure how you can tar the club and fanbase because of the actions of a very small minority.

Please enlarge on this!

Boxing Day 2011. Also known as The Gavin Ward Show

Southend miss promotion that season by 1 point and blamed us for not going up due to the game being abandoned because of half-time floodlight failure, when they were leading 1-0 and us down to 10.

They fail to mention a few bits though, we had two nailed on penalties not given before they scored and we went down to 10. First was Michael Rankine rounds the keeper and is about to roll the ball into an empty net when his foot is grabbed by the keeper. Penalty and Red for keeper you'd think. Gav decides to book Rankine and gives Southend a free kick. 10 mins later McGlashan is about to shoot and he's tripped in the box by a defender. Penalty you'd think? Gav books McGlashan and free kick to Southend. Straight up the other end, Liam Dickheadson fires the ball straight into the chest of Ben Herd (who's outside the box) and bounces out for a throw. Or in Gavin world, a penalty to Southend for handball. By now out lads are getting a little wound up, so when Dickheadson stands on Darren Jones ankle, Jonah punches him square in the chops. No arguments with the Red. But you get the point.

Then the fun starts. Halftime, Gavin wants the lights on, so we go to switch them on and bang, the switch shorts and only one end comes on. Our spark is on the scene and tells Gavin it will take 45mins to fix but Gav says he has 10 to sort it or the games off. The only way this could happen is to cut all power to a packed North Stand which the Safety Officer refuses so Gav says that's it, all go home. This caused major discord amongst the Southend fanbase who for the next few years blamed us for not going up. Nothing to do with the 28 points they dropped at home or anything, it was that one game, didn't help we won the rearranged fixture and also the away game.

The theory we think behind the quick abandonment was Gav was being assessed that day by Keith Hackett for promotion to the Premier League panel and was having a shocker, as TV later proved, so he wanted out of there as quick as.

We had a Gavin Ward in goal for us when we began in this league. He's now 50 years old.

What goes round comes round.

Craig Mahon did exactly the same about 5 years ago just before half time. Rounded your keeper and about to stick the ball in the empty net and keeper pulled him down. Should have been pen, but after an age the ref gave a goal kick. Our players were in a state of shock and you scored. So instead of going in at H/t 1-0 up we went in 1-0 down and eventually lost 3-1. Not sure who the ref was but that was definitely a brain fart by him.

Gavin Ward is up there with Darren Deadman and Trevor Kettle on the list of refs you don’t want to ever have refereeing your match.

Oh, I agree. But in 50 years of being involved in football from Sunday League to Champions League2, I’ve not seen 45 mins of incompetence of that level before or since. And you got your 8-2 revenge.

Will the parachute money be enough. I would guess not!
