The story goes on and on and on and on...
People still bang on about it everyday on Shrimpermoan and I think it's totally boring and accepted it was never going to happen until now and Ron Martin has restored belief in me. He held an AGM this week(the first in many years) and said that the stadium will happen as there is no future for the club at Roots Hall, we owe Sainsbury's nothing and have not needed or asked them for any money in over 2 years and he would be making a statement on the new stadium in June. Now today in the Echo we have more information.. There is a new developer for the land at RH which will raise the funds we need as Sainsbury's have gone completely cold on the deal and he hopes for it to be completed by 2017.
This could just be more shit but it is by far the most believable and positive shit we have had in a while. I think it was clear Sainsburys were going cold on the deal when they failed to purchase the college by the ground 7 times which was going to be used as the entrance for the store. There is hope!

Seems to be the trend these days to build a new stadium, that you need a supermarket to help out. Or in our case we'll let you build your store on our car park and you'll give us a measly some to help build a new stand.

Assume that was Tesco? How much did you get from them?

When will Southend be using the interest free loan system from HMRC to fund this?

Appears not. All the noise coming out the club of late seems to be all our financial woe is behind us *touches wood*

I would not hold out hope of 2017 given where you are now, these things just take forever to go through as ours has.

Trust me I know this stadium was first granted planning permission in 2008

Yes, it's nearly finished but with Tesco's latest reports whose to say they won't even open it. And all we're told is a seven figure sum.

won't believe anything till I see it and I certainly don't believe anything Ron Martin says. I used to talk to him at games just to see what he'd come out with. Caught him in Yeovil's car park in 2009 in which he told me Sainsbury's had, had nothing to do with paying our near £2M tax bill. A month later he told me Sainsbury's alone had paid the lot. Then he publicly announced Sainsbury's had been paying ALL our bills.
I cannot fathom how we don't owe them a penny, either his business has taken a massive up turn or he has found another mug because I can't quite believe Sainsbury's have walked away from a debt which must have been approaching £5M.

This has been going on and on for like 12+ years! It must be Martin making some sort of an illusion!

Awful chairman btw, although our own current one is catching him up.............

To be honest we have been waiting on Sainsbury's and we had the Financial crash just after everything had been approved. News of a new developer of the Roots Hall site is good because we all knew Sainsbury's were not going to go ahead. Hopefully this new firm wants to get things moving.

I did hate Ron but recently I'm changing my mind. He hasn't ever let the club go into administration and the threat of that now seems behind us, he has purchased the indoor soccer dome for the academy to use and now stadium news is looking more positive. He's taken a lot of shit from Southend fans over the years but I think he actually deserves some credit how he has steered the club away from trouble when it all could of gone belly up.

But where is the money from? Has Ron suddenly found some cash behind the sofa, that dome thing was about £2M wasn't it? The only credit I will give him is he seems to always find investors, he also can clearly spin HMRC a good tale because the amount of rope they have given him (and not just with SUFC Ltd) would hang our average attendance.
