What knowledge of NLF does Collymore have? I would suggest very little if none! He's going to look stupid when he gets the appointment wrong.

The sacking of Brown followed by the ‘help’ from the woman beater is nothing but to divert attention by the owner

I reckon Stan Collymore might come up with Stan Collymore as the best candidate. Loves himself to be honest.

Is he a Southend legend then? I'm too young for that era, obviously looked like he had a great season there and earned Southend a massive cash boost with the fee they got but does that qualify him as some legend?

Yes, he was THAT good. His transfer cash ended up just shy of £5M, got a £1M just for him playing for England. That undoubtedly helped the club stay afloat for around 4-5 years.

Ron today admitted that he'd got recent appointments wrong and shouldn't have been hiring people on his own, if Collymore is helping to keep the next decision away from Ron then it's all good.

Caretaker for the weekend will be interesting, the players have taken their own training so far this week.

Stan is a club legend, yes he wasn’t here long and made us lots of money, but far more than that as well as being absolutely brilliant for us he has always said his best time in love with football was was at Southend. He is helping choose the best managerial appointment and is not in the running.
He has always been since his retirement a regular visitor to Roots Hall and speaks of his love of Southend. Every decent person should love themselves even if you have made some mistakes so there’s nothing wrong with that.
Not saying I represent every Southend fan, but a massive majority are wellcoming his help, if not just to help kick the chairman up the arse. As you are too young for that era just like to say I was around when you was a FL club. Decent clubs/ fans in this league as demonstrated by Chesterfield last Saturday and other comments on this forum

It can work to be fair, Kevin Davies was a big part of identifying and bringing in James Rowe to CFC.

I'm not that young to have never seen us in the FL! We went down in 2011. Scary thought to think it's probably half and half now in my 20 years supporting County where we've been FL and Non League though.

I was however too young to witness our heyday of the late 90's where we were in the 2nd tier, stuffing Man City etc.

So you never saw him for Forest or Liverpool then? The guy was absolutely class when he was on it. Fowler and Collymore was such a good partnership. Can only imagine the type of damage Collymore did in the second tier. I'd imagine he was the main factor of Southend not going down the season they had him.

I’m old enough to remember and they were great times, I can remember Grimsby Stockport Southend Bury Crewe and Walsall all being in the second tier and all punching massively above our weights.
Probably a couple more similar sized clubs too that I’ve forgotten but those six came to me off the top of my head.

I remember once playing Middlesbrough here and Bryan Robson said pre match that if they wanted promotion they needed to be beating ‘teams like Grimsby’.
Alan Buckley pinned it up on the dressing room wall and we were 2-0 up after 10 mins, ended up 2-1 but I still remember that game well and we should’ve been 5 or 6 up before they hit their goal back, ripped them to pieces.

Yeah I remember him as for Liverpool and remember his bicycle kick for Bradford against Leeds.

He was at Southend 92-93 according to Wiki. Too long ago for me. I can understand he obviously tore it up there and got them some great money but just wondered if it made him a legend considering it was one season. Didn't doubt he'd be held in good esteem but sounds like he's kept a great rapport with the Southend fans so fair enough.

We've approach Chesterfield for Rowe hahaha. Why they would tell our reporter and let that information out in the public domain amazes me that will be the quickest 'No thanks'

This is why you don’t put a deluded ex Premier League footballer alongside your deluded chairman to try and pick a manager.

As much as this would be very funny, Rowe isn’t that much of an idiot. Enough of not-an-idiot that he’ll get himself a nice new deal or maybe increased budget for January out of it.

He’ll be off as soon as a decent sized League Two or above team comes in though, you can just tell.

It doesn't sound that far fetched to me. Southend potentially a bigger club than Chesterfield and would be a lot closer to where he is from originally.

If Southend were in any kind of state then it’d be plausible, but Rowe’s building himself a decent rep. Even if he doesn’t get Chesterfield up this season, he’ll get offers you would think, there’s no reason for him to move to a club that’s basically on fire.

The one thing that caught my eye was that the report says he’d be working with a bigger budget. If Phil Brown has managed to spend more on that shambles than Chesterfield have…

If Rowe goes the cat wil be out the bag that the Pandemic insurance money isn't coming in as promptly as expected. A couple of business' I've heard have had the same problem.

Technically they may have won it court that they'll get paid out but it could be a drawn out affair.

It did/does seem reckless.

Says to me you’ve got a National journo who’s doesn’t know that Chesterfield have been splashing the tax payers cash.
