Jess Ennis would have a chance but people might be put off by the Athletics drugs saga.

10 contenders are named this Monday.

Tyson Fury. How can the heavyweight champ of the world not win it?

It's going to be Andy fucking Murray now. Except he hasn't got a personality.

Going by the odds:

Ennis-Hill
Murray
Fury
Hamilton
Vardy
Rooney
Froome

in that order are the favourites.

I'd tip Vardy for a top 3 finish there.

I'd say top 3 of Froome, Ennis-Hill and Hamilton, Murray also very deserving. However I think Murray may miss out with people voting GB Davis Cup team for team of the year (Women's Football team also a very good chance). Sampson to win coach of the year, Spieth for overseas.

The 12 nominations have been named now:

Lizzie Armitstead
Lucy Bronze
Jessica Ennis-Hill
Chris Froome
Mo Farah
Lewis Hamilton
Andy Murray
Adam Peaty
Greg Rutherford
Kevin Sinfield
Max Whitlock
Andy Murray
Tyson Fury

Who would your vote go for?

I'd fancy the top 3 to be something like

1.Ennis
2.Murray
3.Fury/Froome

The public can also judge the Overseas Sports person of the Year.

Usain Bolt
Dan Carter
Novak Djokovic
Katie Ledecky
Jordan Spieth
Serena Williams

Probably be Bolt then...although II would be tempted for Djokovic or Dan Carter.

Davis Cup team for Team of the Year?

1) Andy Murray
2) Ennis
3) Anyone potentially

I may be biased but I can't overlook Murray. Winning 11 out of GBs 12 matches in the tournament. Coming up against some excellent players in consecutive days and burdening the entire weight of expectation. I just think it's an achievement that won't ever be beaten by a British tennis player.

Fury beating the lineal undisputed HW champion is one of the greatest achievements in British sporting history. It's akin to Ali beating Liston. He should walk it but he won't get a sniff because of da politics.

:fl: Alright.

It should be between Murray, Fury, Hamilton, Ennis and Root (who bizarrely didn't make the shortlist despite being the best batsman in the world and hitting the most runs in a calendar year by an Englishman ever, being superb in the Ashes etc...).

However, Murray is dull and Fury is a vile bigot so I don't want either of them. It should be Root imo.

Bet you read this before posting that: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/34966147

I agree Bish, Root should have made the shortlist, especially in an Ashes winning year as well. I'd have given him half a shot at top 3 if he had.

Ha - Originally I only copied and posted 10!

Surprised no cricketers were in it - maybe our poor World cup cost us.

Somebody like Whitlock and Peaty will have more chance if they perform really well at the Olympics which will get them more coverage.

No. I wouldn't even think to look at BBC for boxing related topics. However when you analyse the early career of Ali and compare with Fury, it's remarkably similar.

Just to reiterate. He schooled a man who had dominated the world for 10 years. A man most people thought was unbeatable. He didn't beat him at something shit like cycling but in the most dangerous & lucrative sport there is. If it was Anthony Joshua the bookies would've stopped taking bets. They know Tyson is the truth spitta and as such are shook, a smart mind is dangerous.

"If people don't like it, change the channel. I won't be dictated to by nobody. If you don't like it, don't take photos and don't print it in your newspaper. I don't care."

When asked about his responsibilities as a role model, he replied: "Depends what kind of role model you are after.

"If you want a yes man, I am not that person. If you want someone who will tell you like it is, I am that man."

Criminal that Tai Woffinden has been overlooked again. Double Speedway + British world champion and he's got a genuine personality (you know, a good one).

Always ignored because of the status of the sport.

Nail hit on the head. Add in the charity work too. His image probably doesn't fit in with SPOTY though, oh no.... a man who fully merits his selection on the shortlist but he has tattoos on his neck. That's a no.

Not sure why people dismiss athletes like Murray because he has a dull personality. Personality has fuck all to do with the award [despite what the name suggests].
