Bolton are in discussions to change the name of the unibol at the start of season 22/23. Also major sponsorship on and off the field

I’ve never really understood why any league one or two club with ambitions of playing at a higher level enters into any sort of stadium naming rights deal (or even for individual stands).

The money on offer and exposure for the sponsor is dwarfed by what you could get as a Championship club and it makes no sense to do a deal now unless a financial necessity.

Our chairman has always been resolute that naming rights would only be sought once we were an established Championship club. His reasoning being that once you’ve done that first deal, then the genie is out the bottle and you can never get the same sort of deal from any subsequent sponsors. After all, most of us still think of Bolton as playing at The Reebok, Huddesfield at the McAlpine and Reading at The Madjeski. Once it’s done, it’s done.

Personally I hope it never happens (the naming, not the promotion :gr:). I Iike Stadium MK. Perhaps the council should give us lots of money for promoting the Milton Keynes brand.

For a club like Cheltenham it's the easiest way to make a little money. The name for next season is something Suzuki Stadium, but absolutely no-one will call it that - it will always be Whaddon Road.

Think we've got 1 more year left as LNER stadium. Agreed with the abive, massively needed for small clubs!

No it's a local dealer I think - hence me saying "something Suzuki".

On looking it up, it'll be the Completely Suzuki Stadium. Sounds better than Jonny Rocks at least.

Our main sponsor is Mira Showers - have been for 14 years now and will be for at least the next two years.

Our sponsors seem really loyal - Mira at 14 years and Errea as kit manufacturer for 25 years!!

I hope we stick with Pirelli. Could not imagine it been the coors light stadium, or the marmite ground. Mind you, the marstons stadium isn’t too bad.

If I have it right, Pirelli gave the land for the stadium didn't they? Hence the name?
That is correct yes. They have a factory at the rear and owned all the land when we moved. It’s a long term tie up, although like anything, it’s never for ever.

Fair play to them though - easy community work for them that makes them come out looking really good.

I've only been once (the 6-5 in 2010) and I thought it was a decent ground. A terrace with a bar underneath that showed the game. Was perfect to see our first two goals in there after how shite we were in the first half.

What a game that was…
I remember it well. Christ - our defending was comical. Wish I had stayed In the bar second half.

I’m absolutely delighted by this news, it had been keeping me awake for weeks worrying what would happen next.
