Hawkins also a candidate for biggest diver. Proper wet lettuce.
Don’t what he was like for Mansfield, but this is the complete opposite of Hawkins for us
He gets pulled, pushed, grappled and manhandled every game and gets zero from the ref.
I’ve often found myself shouting at him to go down but he doesn’t.
Of all the players in the league to call a conman he is probably the very last one I would choose.

He did a fine job of chucking himself down and waving his arms at the ref at our place - him and George Ray grabbing each other’s shirts, but only one of them trying to con the ref. Can’t remember if he was eventually booked but I can remember the ref laughing at him, the amount he was appealing for nothing.

Exactly same he never got anything due to his size very frustating.

Realised I hadn't kept this up to date.

In pre season we have not seen Conroy, Gladwin, Roles or Johnson. We've been told Conroy and Gladwin are injured but not heard anything about the other two.

Adeyemo picked up a "bad looking" injury in a friendly but we've heard nothing more on that.

Injuries permitting I think we may go...

Addai
Conroy, Ransom, Lynch
Gordon, Darcy, Tsaroulla
Kelly, Gladwin
Orsi Telford

The full backs may be even higher up the pitch.

I concur, he mainly got f all from the refs whilst attacking.

Although in the opposite penalty box he was the one doing the pulling, grappling and manhandling

And definitely a striker even though Clough mainly played him as a centre back.

LCB: Chris Hussey
LWB: Liam Gordon
CDM: Ryan Stirk

Still need a natural RWB for me as Tom Knowles is still pretty unconvincing there. Good going forwards just struggles defensively. Other than that and maybe another centre half, squad looks finished. Defensively we look good but think we may lack a little creativity from wide areas without a proper RWB and with Liam Gordon's form being up and down.

That might be what we're going with against Crawley. That's assuming Smith is fit. He's missed the last two pre-season games due to a tight hamstring. No McDonald who hasn't featured in pre-season, Chapman or Oliver.

Don't think the squad or first eleven is anywhere near good enough for the top 3. If we don't pick up any injuries and Cook has another excellent season then we may sneak into 7th.

I know it was a joke (it was a joke...wasn't it!?) But we still have the best player at the club, Nick Tsaroulla

Next season, if you get promoted you may get the Fulham keeper , Ashby-Hammond, on loan . He has looked decent but not as good as Morris.

I'm driving back home if I see that back line at 2pm on Saturday.

Has to be Oyegoke, Platt, Stubbs, Odusina, Gilliead for me.

Reasonable case for Kelly over Odusina but the rest picks itself. And yes, I'm disgusted at myself for saying Gilliead LWB but Ridehalgh is like playing with 10.

Aye, I'd go with your defence. I think Hughes might start Kelly. Seems to quite like him.

The ITKs suggest that we've not been able to move on as many as the club had expected, with the consequence that arrivals have also stopped. There's a rumour of a winger arriving and we still don't have much pace in the squad. Mark Palios' recent interview suggested that we were waiting for Prem clubs to loan players out. When everyone's fit, it will be a competitive squad for this level, but Dennis, Norris and Walker are unlikely be fit enough to start. Line-up likely to be in a 4Diamond 2 or 433 formation but the personnel for the Barrow opener is uncertain.

Apart from Hemmings and Merrie everybody played some part in the last friendly.

Rhys Hughes also missing and Mikey Davies, though as a first year pro his absence understandable.

I wasn’t at the game, but got the impression from post-match forum comments that Norris and Dennis may not be ready to start. Though it is a plus they got some match-time.

From what I’ve seen of pre-season, our strongest XI (taking into account players missing through injury) is:

GK: Harry Lewis

CB: Matty Platt
CB: Sam Stubbs
CB: Cieran Kelly

LWB: Liam Ridehalgh
RWB: Daniel Oyegoke

CM: Ritchie Smallwood
CM: Alex Pattison
CM: Jamie Walker

ST: Andy Cook
ST: Tyler Smith

Subs:
Colin Doyle
Ash Taylor
Alex Gilliead
Brad Halliday
Manny Osadebe
Clarke Oduor
Matt Derbyshire

I can see us reverting back to 4231/4321 early on if we don’t make a strong start.

We still have Kevin McDonald, Harry Chapman and Vadaine Oliver to come back in.

Couple more players still to come in from Prem/Champ via loans market.

Would like another striker. If Smith is still feeling tight in his hamstring, then we're looking pretty thread-bare in that area, especially with Oliver out for a while; I think he's looking at coming back around October?

Right then, this is where we're up to:

Goalkeepers

Ben Hinchliffe
Jordan Smith
Bobby Jones (Yth)

Defenders
Fraser Horsfall
Akil Wright
Ibou Touray
Kyle Knoyle
Ryan Rydel
Neill Bryne
Macauley Southam-Hales
Ethan Pye

Midfielders
Ryan Croasdale
Will Collar
Antoni Sarcevic
Callum Camps
Louie Barry
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans
Jayden Richardson
Ollie Crankshaw
Myles Hippolyte
Ashton Mee (Yth)

Forwards
Kyle Wooton
Nick Powell
Paddy Madden
Tanto Oloafe
Billy Chadwick
Jack Stretton (ACL - out for the season)

Ridiculous squad to be quite frank with strength and depth in all positions. Big shame about Jack Stretton. Started to look like a really good player at the back end of last season. Hope he can come back fit and firing next season.

Don't know very much about Jordan Smith, but I'd expect Hinchliffe to be No1 for the full season.

We’ll see.

We’ve got question marks on our chosen formation and where Powell fits best.

If it is 343 as we played for the first time on Saturday then we need a right-sided forward/winger.

We’ve got no proper DM competition/cover for Croasdale yet.

And lots of injury worries heading into the season including missing Hippolyte and our top goalscorer and player of the season in Wootton for the first two months of the season.

What we have added with our signings is much needed pace and creativity but how it all fits and if we can do that while still staying solid at back is the big question.

I agree with a lot of what whoneeds' says. On paper you'd say play off finalists, added some good players, they'll know exactly where they're at. But there are question marks about how we're going to line up etc. #

One to watch with us is we start every season dreadfully. We rarely win an opening game and even in seasons we do well we always take forever to get going, it's a bizarre quirk of us tbh. I remember us starting OK in 12-13 actually and we got relegated.

I see Chadwick has gone on a season long loan to Gateshead.

Wasn't there some talk about Madden and Southam Hales being on the move?

We signed Chadwick and said we'd probably be loaning him out. He was playing NLN last season.

I think Madden and Southam Hales will most likely still be with us, they're not quite as key players as they were in 21-22 though. Madden still club captain mind.

Yeah Gateshead is a good move for him. A step up to a club who play good football.

I echo what's been said above. I'd expect Madden will become less of a starter as the season progresses. I'd expect our starting 2 up front (assuming Powell plays in the No10 role) would be Wootton and Oloafe.

I couldn't possibly predict the starting XI for Saturday. I suspect whatever to team, it'll be all change for Sheff Wed in the Carabao Cup on the Tuesday following.

If it was me, I think I'd go with:

GK Hinchliffe
RWB Kyle Knoyle
RCB Akil Wright
CB Fraser Horsfall
LCB Ibou Touray
LWB Ryan Rydel
CM Ryan Croasdale
CM Callum Camps
CM Antoni Sarcevic
STK Nick Powell
STK Tanto Oloafe

Bench
Paddy Madden
Louie Barry
Will Collar (not fit to start)
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans
Macauley Southam-Hales
Neill Bryne
Jordan Smith

Quite like the idea of the 3-4-3 against Gillingham, but as wnm says we're missing the final piece of the jigsaw on the right side of the front three.

I'd go

Hinchliffe
Wright Horsfall Touray
Knoyle Croasdale Sarcevic Rydel
Tanto Powell Barry

Will need the pace of Tanto and Barry to break Gillingham down imo. Doubt it will be that as Challinor has pretty much always played Tanto in the middle but I think at Sutton he played the wide forward role. For me I think that's his better position as I am still not fully convinced on him yet through the middle.

Back end of last season as he got sharper he became a real menace down the middle. Not sure if this Richardson chap can play the right of a front 3, but i wouldn't play him in place of Tanto.

I think 3-5-2 suits us better personally, but i guess we'll see what DC goes with come 3pm Saturday!
