We've all seen the Ronaldo "statue" which doesn't really look like one (apparently there is an even worse one by his hotel..)

See that quite frequently Johnny. Always has flowers or scarves around it. I assume it's Dixie Dean? Seems like a perfectly placed statue and very much in keeping with the area.

Sam Bartram. The greatest goalkeeper England never had.

579 league appearances for Charlton Athletic from a total of 623 in all competitions, an English record at the time and I believe (somebody put me right if I'm wrong on this) he was the first English player to achieve 500 appearances for one club. He lost six years of his playing career to World War II. Goodness knows how many he might have achieved if not for that.

After his playing career finished he managed York City and Luton Town, then later worked as a sport journalist for The People. He died in 1981. A genuine one club man and from all accounts, a truly great goalkeeper.

The phrase "football legend" was made for men like Sam.
