The interest in today's game is palpable.

Do Shrews fans still hate us because of the Collins incident or are we all friends again?

Been a forgettable season for us both, today is a celebration of mediocrity.

Sun is shining and all is good in the world. Today will be a goal fest. 3-2

Got a freebie ticket so I'm off to see the nearly Welsh.

Wonder if we'll get a chance to see the extremely rare lesser-spotted Jordan Stewart.

Shrewsbury must be the living embodiment of meh

Reckon we will have a few young lads in the team today, or at least on the bench. To be honest I don't think our players/fans would have been bothered if the season had ended last week. Very much a 'meh' game - can't see many travelling fans, 350-400 absolute maximum.

Long term gains.
Harry Agombar to make a surprise appearance in midfield.

Hopefully an otherwise meaningless game will be notable as Mellon's last as Town gaffer.

I know they were on their hols but Shrewsbury were awful today. Along with Chesterfield the worst team in the league.

Fair play to each and every 500 Of the Shrews fans who came to watch and joined in with the minutes applause pre-match.

Think you're wrong there, fella. Apparently your owner has confirmed he will be manager next season.

You were dreadful today. Whether that was down to last game meh or not, you look like you need a major rebuild or you'll be in the same position, or worse, next time round.

As Agombar said above, real good turn out from you today.

That's a bit harsh on Chesterfield! Within the first 15 minutes when we barely got out of our half I wondered why I'd travelled. I don't think Swindon were particularly good today (didn't need to be) but more than deserved the 3-0 score line. Only positives for us were first team debuts for youth products Callum Burton and Ethan Jones.

Both teams can now draw a line under this season and start again.

In response to the OP, I think it was just a few of our younger fans trying to create a rivalry due to the Di Canio factor at the time!!!

So it seems, unfortunately a decision the club are very likely to regret.

Mellon had very good League 1 budget this season but failed miserably not once but twice to build a squad good enough to compete in line with the budget available.

The decision to retain him means he must now try to build a League 1 squad for a third time this summer as most of the squad are out of contract.

I hope I'm wrong and he makes a better job of it at the third time of asking, but there is nothing to suggest that is likely.

I would rather a new manager come in now with the opportunity to rebuild rather than at some point next season when he will inherit Mellon's latest rebuild and have little room for manoeuvre.

Interestingly Matt is in the 30/70 minority regards Mickey Mellon, personally I am happy for him to continue, the problems in the club come from the top, our control freak Chairman and his yes buddy the only other board member.

It is no coincidence that Graham Turner 2 seasons and Micky Mellon have struggled to bridge the gap between league 1 and 2. If or when MM leaves the club, there is a strong possibility that Mike Jackson will be given a second bite at managing the team (shudder the thought)! When our chairman gave MM the job 2 seasons ago, one of the conditions was that he kept Mike Jackson as his number 2, and was the reason Justin Edinburgh (then at Newport) turned us down as a replacement for Graham Turner!

Whilst there are undoubtedly plenty of problems with the way the club is being run Mellon was provided with more than sufficient financial backing this season.

None of the following can be attributed to the board.

Dismantling the League 2 promotion team/formation before this season had started
Very poor recruitment last summer
Poor recruitment again in January
Record number of home defeats in a season
Worst defeat for over 50 years
Worst home defeat since 1988
Constant chopping and changing in team selection and formation with multiple changes of formation mid game being commonplace

I may be in a minority I don't know, but I do know there do seem to be a lot of Mellon apologists around and pro Mellon spin that Peter Mandleson might have stopped short of using.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong and that we make a much better fist of it next season but I fear we'll be looking back and wishing those at the top in the club had been strong enough to take the big decisions necessary his week.

Shrews fans - who are your centre halfs? I quite liked the big 24 who looked like a ball playing defender that we like to sign. Your number 4 was the polar opposite, absolutely hopeless.

Good luck for the rest.... Um, enjoy the summer!

Number 24 was Jack Hendry who we've had on loan from Wigan since the end of March. He looks good in the limited times he's played for us. They paid money for him in the summer from Partick on a four year deal, so they have hopes for him, unfortunately for us!

Number 4 was Zak Whitbread. We signed him on a free transfer in October on a 3 month deal where he performed really well. We then gave him a deal to the end of the season, which he has spent large parts of injured (a summary of his injury hit career). The last month he hasn't looked anywhere near as assured, but yesterday was just another level! The whole build up to the penalty was just rank bad defending. The thing is he said he wants to return to the Championship and if an offer came along he would be off!!!! I can't see him getting another deal with us as I have it on good authority he's on big money (for us). He wanted less than Anthony Gerrard though!

Hope you enjoy the summer too! Shame our players started their holiday before the game yesterday!

Thanks Danny.

Yes, its hard to be ultra critical when neither team had anything to play for. I think both the penalty and our second goal ultimately came from your inability to get rid of the ball properly. It did remind me of Swindon's defending at times this season.

I'm going to enjoy some time without football, this season has been pretty poor in general. However we are both in League 1 and that's the main thing after it looked like we may have been sucked into a relegation dogfight.

All the best
