Caretaker boss Kit Symons led his Fulham side northbound to take on an in form Rotherham side at New York Stadium. Nobody in attendance expected the final result, which ended up a 3-3 draw, probably a fair result given the balance of play. Both teams looked good going forward, but looked defensively unstable at times, a valid excuse for a game producing 6 goals. Rotherham led each time, only to be pegged back minutes later by an equalizer from the London club.
There was little action of note in the first half. A McCormack free kick was planted towards Collin, while Rotherham failed to create any real pressure on the back line. Inevitably, they went ahead inside half an hour. Paul Taylor, rewarded a place in the starting eleven in honour of his dazzling performance against Leeds on Friday, picked up a loose ball on the centre line, before investing his pace and agility in a move which saw him reach the edge of the box, before curling a low shot towards the bottom corner. The ball seemed to take a minor flick from Revell, who subsequently wheeled away in celebration, despite being in an offside position. The goal stood, despite protests from Fulham keeper Betinnelli, who picked up a yellow card for his dissent. Replays of the goal do show that Revell was half a yard offside, and was credited with the goal. Fulham replied fairly quickly, with the help of a second controversial decision. George Williams passed Frazer Richardson, before advancing into the box, and going down easily over the hanging leg of Lee Frecklington. Ross McCormack converted the resultant penalty. Both teams went in at half time, with a goal each.
Ten minutes into the second half, Rotherham regained their lead. Ben Pringle drilled a powerful cross into the box, leaving Jonson Clarke Harris to reach round his marker and flick the ball towards the goal, to claim his second goal in as many games. However, once again, Fulham responsed. Woodrow picked up the ball on the corner of the box before advancing, and with the Millers defence backing off, cut outside and angled a shot towards the far corner, beating Collin in the Rotherham goal. As the game looked to be heading out to a 2-2 draw, Rotherham thought they found the winner. Revell latched onto a loose ball on the right flank, whipping in a great cross for Derbyshire to head in from a few metres out, however much to the already celebrating fans' amazement, he put it wide. However, the dissapointment wasn't everlasting. Pringle picked up the ball on the left, drilling it low into the bodies, seeing it deflected off Nikolay Bodurov and into his own goal. But in the dying minutes, Fulham scored the final goal of the game. A late corner was whipped in by Ross McCormack, and met by the Fulham captain Burn, who towered above his marker to equalise for the third time.
