Angus McDonald. CB Picked up from Torquay for four quid. Chucked into the starting 11 when we sold Mawson to Swansea and he's looked a rock in most games so far, MOTM vs Brentford today. Marc Roberts too. Got him from Halifax in 2015, fresh from stepping up two division to League One he's comfortably made the step up yet another division in the space of a year.

Abraham is the obvious one, so after him I'd say Magnusson.
Yes he was signed from the Italian champions, but I wasn't expecting him to adapt to the Championship so quickly (45 very poor minutes against Wigan on opening day and then a dominating second half). Still has a few lapses but fully expect he will play at a higher level.

Given how much he cost can we say 'surprise' package, we'd expect someone of quality with him nearly being our record signing.

The surprise being more how quickly he adapted.
Some players take seasons to adapt to English football and some never do, most take a few months. Magnusson took 45 minutes and is still very young.

I think the fee was partly inflated by the fact he was at Juve. How often do we see a mediocre player who comes through a big club still going for decent money?
Jeremie Aliadiere scored 3 times in over 50 games and Arsenal sold him for £2.5mil in a market far less inflated than the current one. They also sold Gilles Sunu (not a well known name) for over £1m despite only playing for them twice.
Lansbury to Forest was apparently over £1m too. Point is when you buy a bright prospect from a big club, you often pay for the name of the club they come from as well as the potential they have.

Chris Maxwell is class.

Thought he would come in as cheap backup but if he's firmly established himself as number 1 already, definition of sweeper keeper, he's like having an extra defender, can pick a pass as well.

Surprised how shit Matthews has been. Magnusson and Tammy been excellent as well, and I'm pleasantly surprised that Fielding's been OK since he come back in.

Jaap Stam.

Wouldn't swap him for any manager at this level (though Rafa would be tempting).

Meh, everyone has done as expected for us after our shaky start... Though perhaps Nathan Baker, knew he was a decent quality Championship defender who can do a job in the PL but he's been solid since Elphick got injured. To the point that Elphick has no right coming back into the side yet.

:)

We know a good defender when we see one down here, we don't get many!
