It looks really sad that you didn't get any replies so I'm here for you.

I don't think you'll finish in the top four this season either unfortunately mate. But I do believe you have a very, very impressive squad considering the budget you're working with.

Anything less will mean pure unadulterated humiliation for Swansea City AFC, the city, and it's people I believe.

Montero is probably as good as Messi imo

We don't represent merely a city but an entire nation. We have propelled the national team to unprecedented levels, the onus is now on us to take this on and conquer Europe next season. Top four is merely a means to an end.

Real talk.
Martin Keown: "I never got to see Stanley Matthews play, but this guy Jefferson Montero has got full-backs on toast."

To be fair, if any team outside the usual top 6 are going to have a stab at the top 4 this year, it will probably be Swansea. Southampton look set for mid table. Stoke will be inconsistent. Palace probably won't string enough results together to really challenge. Swansea look capable of winning several in a row. They do need a better back up for Gomis though.

Realistically though, they'll be in a battle for 6th with Spurs.

Like in 13/14 where you couldn't beat Krasnodar and St Gallen and got knocked out by Napoli when the big EL boys were just getting out of first gear?
Is that you mean by conquering Europe?

Still had a shite domestic season because of it. Had to sack Laudrup and all.

I think at this stage, Swansea have what it takes to have a go at a top 6 finish. Some decent players and a quality striker who can actually score goals on a regular basis.

I can certainly see Swansea finishing in the top six this season. Monk has done a terrific job there and has made some shrewd signings.

I'd be very surprised if Gomis doesn't have one or two droughts throughout the season. Then you got Shelvey who's the engine, but he can be really unexplicably shit at times. Ayew is also an unknown quantity, though he's obviously opened the season as well as any Swansea fan could have hoped for.

I think for the Swans to finish in the top six, Liverpool or Tottenham have to underperform to quite a large extent. It's not unreasonable, but I'd call it very unlikely that the Swans actually manage to do it.

For me, Swansea are a better team than Spurs. Obvious bias aside I think it's a valid statement. The only players from Tottenham that would make it into the starting 11 of most teams in the top 6 would be Lloris, and Eriksen, the rest of their squad is pish. Then you look at Swansea... Shelvey, Sigurdsson, Ayew, Montero and Gomis can all be match winners and would walk into the Spurs side (Except maybe Shelvey)

If Liverpool gel quickly, then there's no way Swansea will challenge them. However if the newer players don't click with the newish players then there could be some awful displays this season. I have a feeling that 6-7 games in we'll see how well they can play as a unit.

Agree on Spurs.

Don't see anything with Liverpool that worries me about them finishing above us. I've not seen that Firmino so I'll have to wait on passing judgement but their other signings are either pretty standard or pretty pish.

Clyne - Decent full back, slight upgrade on Johnson. That's it though, isn't gonna be a match winner.
Milner - Run of the mill English player. Disciplined and has a good work rate but lacks flair or creativity. Hasn't got the keys.
Ings - :gr:
Benteke - Absolute dirge at the level Liverpool aspire to be at. Doesn't fit in to this supposed thesis of working Brenda banged on avout when he took over Liverpool. I rate a fit Andy Carroll over him.
Gomez - Young dude, plenty of flaws to smooth over.

Current players
Lallana - The single most overrated English player about atm.
Henderson - Manager's dream. Same a Milner essentially.
Allen - Again, a standard midfielder. Won't unlock a defence.

I'm bored now. Excluding Coutinho who is a genuine talent, they've got nothing else. They'll fall to shit part way through to season. There's no leadership or clear direction about the place, in very real danger of finishing bottom half.

This is obviously a wind-up thread.

Which is why I'm going to spend some time explaining why Swansea won't finish in the Top Four.....

I hope they do though.

Top 6 by default. Top 4 because we're brilliant.

Had you guys have been wise you could've got 20/1 on us being top 6, after our two scintillating performances this season we've tumbled down to 8/1.

Some silly outfit called 10Bet has us at 80/1 for top 4. I've never heard of 10Bet though, if you want a legitimate bookmaker look no further than Bet 365, 66/1. I suggest you raid your children's uni fund.

Let's combine this and the other similar one about Everton.

Out of Everton or Swansea which is more likely to make top 4. Discuss. It's difficult, I know.

Pagnell, I like you and you were a top admin back in the day but you have no authority on this forum. You can't bark orders about combining threads.

Why you'd see fit to merge a pisstaking thread regarding the Toffee's with a serious one tracking the meteoric rise of the majestic Swans I don't know. Too long out the game I suppose.

How very dare you! Besides, I meant combine in terms of thread direction, rather than physically merging them. After all, we're best keeping such humorous subjects in one thread, don't you think?

Why settle for top 4? If you played in the Welsh Premier League, you would give Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham a run for their money and could even finish top...just imagine, Champions League football every season...

Kane would make their first XI easily.
