Swindon really starting to pick up some form having got rid of Cooper, Gillingham still going strong after a good start to the season. Can't pick a winner here.
Apparently these two have some sort of vicious rivalry despite being about 125 miles away from eachother. Don't know what that's about. Be like us having a rivalry with MK Dons.

All match discussion in here please.

The rivalry started in March 1979, when, with both teams in the running for promotion, Swindon visited Priestfield one position and three points behind the Gills, but with two games in hand. Gillingham themselves were equal on points with third-placed Swansea, and just three points behind leaders Watford. In a fiery match, the Gills went 2-0 ahead in the first 25 minutes, but ten minutes later the Town had pulled it back to 2-2. That was how the scoring stayed, but other events were to make the game far more memorable. After Gillingham had goalscorer Westwood sent off for foul and abusive language, Priestfield went into uproar, incensed by what they considered to be poor refereeing and gamesmanship by Town player Ray McHale - and in the second half, a Gills fan got onto the pitch and punched the referee - knocking him out.

It got worse for Gillingham when they visited Swindon for the return leg in May. Now a point ahead of the Town and in a promotion spot, Gillingham had another player sent off for a tackle on McHale, and after the Town went 3-0 up, their players began to single out McHale for some retribution, the game turning nasty again. The game eventually finished 3-1, and as the players returned to the dressing room, there was a fracas in the tunnel - Swindon coach Wilf Tranter having to go to hospital with facial injuries after being punched. Two Gills players ended up in court over the incident, both were acquitted - and the season ended with both teams missing out on promotion - the Gills by a single point, which they considered to be stolen from them during the two games with Swindon, and a rivalry was born

Seems fair enough to me. Bit touchy these Gills!

Hope we can repeat our result at Swindon last season, that'll do nicely. It makes a change to have three games in a row where there's a little bit of added needle, regardless of it being mostly uni-directional. COYG!

Yet it was the Swindon lot inciting violence when we first met again after 20 years of not playing each other :shifty:

Tricky game, but we can win. Big blow with Cody getting injured, but Norris is on his way back so the squad shouldn't be massively weakened. We'll have to bring in a new striker in January though as Williamson is not the answer, regardless of how well he's doing at Cambridge. Midfield as always is the tricky one to call, with Houghton, Osadebe and Loft all pushing for recalls. Wright and Dack will both play for certain, and Edinburgh has been raving about Hessenthalers performances of late so I doubt he'll be dropped. So it's basically one out of the three mentioned or Aaron Morris for the 4th place in the middle. I really want to see Houghton as he's the best footballer out of the 4, but Morris is the more defensive option if we're planning on being a bit 'steelier'. Osadebe is a wildcard and Loft is a liability so I doubt it'll be either of those two to start. Up front it should be Samuel and Donnelly, with Norris coming on later on.

Nelson
Jackson - Egan - Oshilaja - Garmston
Wright
Hessenthaler - Houghton
Dack
Samuel - Donnelly

G.Morris, Ehmer, Dickenson, A.Morris, Loft, Osadebe, Norris.

McGlashan to miss out.

3-2 Gills!

Wouldn't really change a winning team, except for Donnelly in for McDonald.

Would take a point but if we play like we did at the den no reason we can't return with the 3 points

A feisty game with 4 players from each side being sent off and the two benches having a ,mass brawl, continual outbreaks of violence in the crowd and the Gills running out narrow 10-0 winners!

I think i have hated the Swine since 1968 (when i was 4). Obviously I didn't realise at the time, but my uncle asked me if i wanted to go to a Swindon home game on Boxing Day of that year, and I turned him down.

As I grew up, I came to realise that my cousins had as many brain cells as they had fingers (ie 6)

But those 3 play off games were a thing of beauty. You had both feet in Division 2 (as was, now Championship) and you managed to spectacularly fuck it up at the CG and then to be gloriously thrashed at Selhurst Park.

Have they removed all that scaffolding that went through that pub's windows at your place yet?

It is strange, though as you were the original villains of the piece that you've got the hump whilst we, on the whole, don't give a flying one.

Given my ST to someone for this as going to a wedding (mine this time) last few times this has happened it's been 5-2 and 4-1 so going for 4-2 home win.

It should be a good game. A decent test against what looks like, one of the better teams in the division this season.

I don't think we were ever the 'villains of the piece; Dan.
That little odious piece of scum McHale was the original villain, along with the Swine fans who threw rocks and coins at us all through those games at the time and bricked our coaches on the way home.
I was on the coach that had a brick through the coach window when a girl fan lost an eye.
It also makes me chuckle when the inbreds say that they are not bothered by the whole thing and yet it always them that look for a row when they come to our place, not so much the other way round.

Probably a game too far for this reinvigorated Town side but our form over the last month or so means we have given ourselves a bit of respite from the relegation dogfight so do not need to fear defeat. Gills look a seriously good side this season so, for that reason, would take a point.

Both teams are strong. If I had to pick a winner it would be Gillingham (league position and ability to get results on the road). But I don't think there will be a winner as Swindon are in the process of righting the ship after a poor start.. So a draw it is.

Did we f**k it up against your side under Macari that was later found to be flaunting the financial rules and was subsequently demoted 2 divisions?

I remember those games well. Even at 1-0 up at your place (2-0 overall) somehow none of us Gills felt comfortable. There was a feeling that we'd find a way to blow it. And once you equalised, the 3rd game was a match too far for us. Pity was (for us) that 2-legged tie was not decided by away goals rule, but the previous round was. We'd have gone up otherwise. Probably come straight back down anyway.

Should be a good test for us with you guys in pretty decent form. We've been a bit hit and miss on the road so a draw would be a decent result, a win after Saturday's mauling of Millwall would be fantastic though. Only change will probably be McDonald out as he's now out until near the end of the season with a broken metatarsal, meaning we probably need to bring someone in on loan. Merry Christmas to all!

Strange how Stella increases your team's chances of winning. I've often noticed this.

The way it's going we're going to thump 'em!

Toodle pip!

Well fuck me, I didn't expect that. Missed a pen and all. 7 points between us and 7th isn't too shabby at all, 3rd at the halfway point of the season, unbelievable.

Cheers Agombar, best of luck for the rest of the season.

I didn't go as in Ireland drinking shed loads of Guiness but the report from my mate who went was that you were a good side.

All the best for the rest of the season yourselves.

Completely outplayed by a very good Gills side - despite us gifting 2 goals they pissed all over us.

Only thing I can be negative about is they lack a bit of discipline - some of those tackles could have seen red.

No complaints

Very, very welcome points we've gained v Wall and now Swindon. Especially as both teams were on a bit of an upturn. Swindon won 4 out of 5 before today right?

I think most of us would have settled for 2 or 3 pts from those two away trips. To get 6 has made it a very Merry Christmas.

And thanks for the kind words from you Red chaps. Doesn't happen often between us does it? :)
Maybe we've got a half decent side here.

Another brilliant result vs a much improved Swindon.

For weeks we have seem to be getting results without decent performances but it now seems were playing well again as well as picking up the points .

It would now be typical Gillingham to go and lose at home to Colchester on Monday

Gills really picking up some speed now, with these 2 big away wins.. As long as we an keep hold of Dack in the transfer window, id say we should be finishing no lower than 5th. With a real opportunity at the playoffs - would be great to see the Gills at Wembley. Lets hope we can take this momentum into the colchester game :2thumb:
