Last time we got to the FA Cup 5th Round, both matches were at St James Park...

just sticking my pennyworth in...
surely the hardest-done-by player must be poor old Denis Law. Playing for Manchester City in an FA Cup fourth-round tie at Luton in 1961, Law scored six times as City raced into a 6-2 lead, only for the match to be abandoned. The Kenilworth Road pitch "first resembled a beach with the tide just out, then [there was] deep mud, then a shallow lake," according to one report of the game. "It's not every day that you score six goals," recalled Law earlier this year. "I never did it again - the most I managed in a game that counted was four, which I got a couple of times. But then the heavens opened. Obviously it wasn't meant to be. The funny thing was when we went for the replay on the Wednesday the pitch was in a worse state than it ever was on Saturday." As the law of Sod dictates, Law still scored in the second match, only for City to slump to a 3-1 defeat.

We lost our last 11 away games of the 1969/70 season and our last 11 away games of the 1970/71 season by an aggregate score of 60-0.

In total, our away record for the first 18 months of the 1970s reads P35, W2, D3, L30, F7, A79. That includes getting knocked out of the 70/71 FA Cup at Rhyl from the Cheshire County League. The two wins were back-to-back at Chester and Workington in Nov/Dec 1970, our last away points of the season!

Chris Pike, apparently!
Oh how I loved Chris Pike, he came to us with a dodgy back and ran around looking like someone’s dad had got on the pitch unnoticed. Scored important goals that kept us in the football league though mind.

Also happens to be Gareth Bale’s uncle. Fun fact for you there.
