I'm quite interested to see how you think your team will line up next week in the first game of the season, it will be good to see how you view your strongest 11.

I've spent a while thinking about this and this is how I hope we line up:

~4-2-3-1~

Dunn

Carrington Bencherif Riley Newton
Barry Edwards
Rutherford Rooney Harvey
McDonagh

This is the only way I can fit in most of our key players in without someone like Rooney or Rutherford dropping back into central midfield. The 3 behind McDonagh can all be flexible and move around. Just missing out would be Callum Powell and Jordan Evans.

I think we'll line up as follows against Curzon Ashton next week:

Hornby
Hodgkiss Lowe Carter Francis-Angol
McQuilkin Fane N'Gwatala
Waite Dieseruvwe Gnahoua

If Fane goes before next week and we haven't brought in a direct replacement, then either Ty Williams will go in there, or Carter will and either Thomas or Tunnicliffe would go in at centre back.

I imagine we'll line up with a 4231 formation.

Davies

Vaughan Ihiekwe Mcnulty Ridehalgh

Harris S.Jennings

Norwood C. Jennings Stephenson/Mekki

Cook

Cant pick between Stephenson or Mekki on the left, both have looked pretty similar in pre season.

We've mixed between 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 in pre-season. Ours will probably be:

Farman

Wood, McCombe, Waterfall/new signing, Habergham

Muldoon, Power, Woodyard, Arnold

Rhead, Margetts/Marriott

OR

Farman

Wood, McCombe, Waterfall/new signing, Habergham

Power, Woodyard

Muldoon, Miles/Hawkridge, Arnold

Rhead

Margetts has a knock and is doubtful for the opening day, Hawkridge is injured but I imagine he'll be a starter when fit and Marriott's only had 45 minutes this pre-season so I doubt he'll be thrown in straight away.

Expecting a new CB and CM at some point but the CB is more likely to come straight in than the CM.

For the first game we'll probably go for ..
3-5-2

Russell
Clough/Racine, Bennett, Pinnock
KMB, Sinclair, Traore, Carter, Frear
Tubbs, Moore/Doidge

Cooper seems to prefer a physical/athletic/workhorse striker Doidge/Moore, beside a pure goalscorer Tubbs/Murphy.
Rather than going for Tubbs and Murphy together.
Noble is suspended for the first three games so Carter will likely come in for him.
Our club captain Aarran Racine could find himself on the bench after Clough's performance yesterday as he seems to like the left footed Pinnock on the left of the back three.

Against Barrow we will probably line up like this

4-4-2
Cole
Alexander/Arnold-Evans-Saville-Straker
Fenelon-Bellamy-Gallagher-Allen/Mensah
McClure-Rendell

Or this

4-1-4-1
Cole
Alexander/Arnold-Evans-Saville-Straker
Reynolds
Fenelon-Bellamy-Gallagher-Allen/Mensah
Rendell

Good choice. Looks a strong side.
The only player I think is missing is Chris Holroyd who I would play along side or ahead of Sampson up front.

Swap Sampson out for Holroyd and that's about right. I'm sure Mackreth and Rowe will make it more of a 4-3-3 when going forwards, prefer to have that trio than Sampson who would more likely encourage long balls up to him and then have to catch up and support instead of driving up the pitch together.

I'd go with pretty much the same but Chemlal instead of kmb should player players who are in form and he's been one of the best players in pre season.

That's our strongest XI, and the only ones there that might not start the opener are Diarra if another defender comes in, and Harvey, which would be a surprise if he's dropped.

I agree with that - probably leaves the bench from Murray, Bennett, (new striker), Parry, Miekle, Howarth
probably won't have a sub keeper...

Parry's maybe more likely to play against the better attacking teams, sweeping up ahead of the defence, and totally forgot about Meikle as I've not seen him feature yet. We've also got a squad that looks like it can work in 4-3-3 and 4-5-1, and with lots of versatile players - rather than players just being played out of position to plug a gap.

We've been playing different variations of 352/343, I'd take a guess at

Scott Flinders

Ben Clappison
Jack Higgins
Matt Fry

Shaun Rooney
Clovis Kamdjo
Simon Heslop
Alex Whittle

Aidan Connolly

Daniel Nti
Scott Fenwick

Subs:
Luke Simpson
Josh Robinson
Yan Klukowski
Kaine Felix
Reece Thompson

Like FGRJC would go for Chemlal ahead of KMB, he's looked quality in the psf's.

Looks like we're going to be committing a lot of players forward, which means we need pace at the back so Pinnock could well get the nod. Traore is going to have to play very well as the only DM, the wingers are going to spend more time pushing forward and what with our 3 man defence playing high and being encouraged to get forward as well when they can it's going to need a lot of quality covering/last ditch defending. The strikers will rotate a fair bit I would have thought, they all look class and are scoring goals. Murphy is top drawer though, would definitely start him on Saturday. Doidge edges out Moore after his motm performance.

For Boreham Wood I would go with;

Russell
Clough, Bennett, Pinnock
Traore
Chemlal, Sinclair, Carter, Frear
Doidge, Murphy
Tubbs, Moore and KMB as impact subs. Damn good ones at that.

Wood are going to have their work cut out trying to stop our attack on their top class pitch. Can see a lot of goals.

I honestly have no idea what team we will start with on Saturday, We seemed to have been fiddling around with a 5 back formation in preseason so I'm thinking something like this.

Johnson

Bolton
M Smith
Fyfield
Hogan
G Smith

Mafuta
McLaughlin
Jones

York
Johnson

Subs:
Hanford
Brundle
Ajala
Sweeney
Bowman

In hindsight think you're spot on there. Either Maxted & Racine on the bench or Racine and McGrory/Jefford depending if he wants a GK there.

Sounds like we'll be going 4-4-2, so:

Farman

Wood
McCombe
Raggett
Habergham

Muldoon
Power
Woodyard
Arnold

Rhead
Marriott

Subs - Walton*, Waterfall, Miles, Hawkridge**, Margetts

* Cowleys don't do sub 'keepers apparently? In which case, Howe will probably be there.
** If he's not fit, then Hodge.
