Well I've checked again (why the fuck did I check again!) and the first person to mention rivalry was Chief. Unless someone before has edited their post...

I'm going to give up on this one. You obviously believe you've read something that either wasn't ever there or isn't there now.

I'll look forward to many more enthralling discussions in this thread over the next 5 days.

1. Quite possibly.

2. Can't wait

Yeah that's what I was thinking, Green yesterday looked lost, bad game to have to make your professional debut, I'd also prefer Donnelly back at centre half, he's had a solid start.

Donnelly has the potential to be the signing of the season for me. Real prospect.

Pretty pathetic banter so far.

I'd be playing Donnelly in front of Harrison and Toto, and with Carson back we should be OK.

It's got 1-1 written all over it.

Seven draws each so far this season. We've got a good away record.

We've pretty poor at home to be honest. We've maybe played well in 2 of the home league games so far.

When we do lose our first game I expect it will be at home. Whether that is this match I don't know, but Hartlepool do seem pretty decent on the road so it will be a tough game.

Keith Curle is renowned for being a good away manager, so it's no surprise that our away performances do to get much more credit than our home ones.

I wonder if there will be any histrionics from Paynter this time, of if he's over that. Seems he started the season well and then went off the boil, I've not read much that is complimentary of him on either of the Poolie sites, in fact you lot are starting to sound a bit like we were when he played for us.

I think pretty poor is relative here. We're 4th in the home-form table and while our best performances have been away from home we've still put in some good ones at home. We're only 12th in away-form but other teams are more strongly let down by one of either home or away form* hence why we're higher in the overall table than we are in either home or away tables.

*Wycombe for example are 2nd at home, but bottom away, Pompey are top at home but 20th away

Hartlepool are 4th away, so it's 4th best home team at home to the 4th best away team.

He hasn't started a league game since the end of August and has only been sporadically used off the bench, Hignett seems keen to setup like the Boro and have one man up top and two wide men and right now it's Amond as the lone striker. I still feel we carry more of a threat with Paynter playing, he's more aggressive, can hold up the ball and win headers, I'm not sure that anyone has turned on him like, just needs another run in the side, 10 minutes off the bench when you're chasing a game is a waste of time.

We're pretty much reliant on Thomas/Alessandra when it comes to attacking threat, the former was marked out the game yesterday and had himself a mare.

I'd play Luke Joyce and the youngsters. Brough in defence, Morgan Bacon in goal, Salkeld up front.

Can't agree with you there.Apart from the first couple of games Paynters been the exact opposite, hardly contributes anything these days.
Donnelly should come into midfield, otherwise I think we could get over run by the likes of Adams,Devitt & Kennedy.
Still got feeling we'll sneak a win though.

:woot:

A lot like the Plymouth game a few weeks ago, we have absolutely no chance of getting anything from this game and fully expect a 4-0 drubbing. Shall we not bother with this one too?

Seriously, we certainly play much better away from home as we have a lot of pace going forward, and teams who push higher up the pitch usually suffer the Thomas treatment and get torn a new one from him. Teams who sit back and defend we struggle to break down if Allessandra doesn't create something from nothing. Sounds like Thomas had a poor game on Saturday, but fully expect him to be at the races for this one.

I would probably put Donnelly into midfield for this one. Like for like (ish) replacement for Featherstone, who we clearly miss. Overran in midfield in the two games he hasn't featured in.

Hopefully we don't concede too early in the game and let our heads drop. Amond could be key if he manages to sneak a goal. Obviously Paynter should not be starting any league game for us - but if there was one I had to choose for him to not start in, it would be Carlisle away.

I hope Paynter doesn't play. He was shit for us, a lazy heap of lard arse dog shite to put it mildly, but he nearly scored at Brunton Park last season and I'm sure he'll score if he plays this time.

I notice the Poolie Bunker servers have gone down... someone probably started the predictions thread on there and the site crumbled under the increased traffic.
Poolie Bunker is NOT the message board of choice ....they only have 6 or 7 posters ...you need to view .

Thats where the real fans go .....I'm not so sure about lack of interest , I just don't think the game needs a week build up ....plus ....on paper , this looks like a home banker

So... starting line-ups. Ours largely picks itself. I've been expecting Devitt or Lambe to break (back) into the starting line-up but Kennedy's form pretty much cements his place so I expect us to continue unchanged. It's the same with Brisley, as much as he's assumed to be the best defender at the club, it's hard to see him displacing Raynes and Gillesphey while the incumbents are keeping clean sheets. Despite Wyke missing the Morecambe game through injury, we don't know much about the extent of the injury (as is Curle's preference with injuries) with the exception that it's 'less serious than first thought'.

Unchanged starting line up

Poolie kev normally picks our team , but until he sobers up I'll have a go
Carson
Donnelly Harrison Toto Carroll
Alessandro Hawkins Laurent Thomas
Paynter Amond

Paynter has been out of favour for a few weeks , if he can't turn it on for this game then he never will......although we may well go 1 up front ( not Paynter ) , Richards at RB and Donnelly sort of sweeper /Defensive Mid

I thought Jabo and S. Miller worked very well as a partnership on Saturday, brought the best out of each other. Can't argue with an unchanged team, but I would like to see more of Brisley.

Put McKee on that bench for either Atkinson or Salkeld and I think you'll have it spot on.

Ah gotcha, I was just trying to remember what the bench was at Morecambe and remembered Salkeld was on it, but Lambe wasn't in the squad, which I forgot about.

Probably yeah, Salkeld to drop back into the youth team with Lambe returning to the squad,

Mods, you need to create some space on the 1FF servers, because this thread could run to several petabytes.

There's a fair amount of anticipation for this game. Both teams are doing well (well Hartlepool have some decent draws in an unbeaten run they're on and seem to be fairly exciting to follow). I imagine there should be a good crowd, with plenty of Poolies, and maybe our largest home following of the season. We could get around 5,000 in.

One person who will definitely be among that attendance will be Craig Hignett, who has a touchline ban.:told:

I may have missed this one - but which are the 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st?

FWIW - if Carlisle are to play 4-4-2 I think we should match them rather than pack the midfield.

Donnelly in at CB, Richards at RB. Amond and Heardmen/Fewster upfront. Would swap Thomas and Alessandra too as I think Carroll would have a tough game with Thomas infront of him.

I'd put Donnelly in midfield,we're a bit weak there at the moment.
If we went 2 up front I'd put Allesandra with Amond.
It'll still 1 up front though.

Carson
Richards Toto Harrison Carroll
Allesandra Hawkins Donnelly Laurent Thomas
Amond
