Certainly looked like a pile of wank apart from 10 minutes. Maximum offence intended.

Enjoy it lads. Laugh away.

We are fucking dreadful yes, but we do have some good players so once the Americans finally pull their fingers out of their chocolate starfishes and sack the manager, I’m sure the losing culture will eventually begin to evaporate and we will accumulate enough points to stay up.

It’s all about staying up this season, stopping the rot and then building from there next season.

We found this last time we got relegated. I think our fans thought it would be a stroll in the park and we promptly lost our second game 2-0 to league newcomers Accrington. It's very difficult to shake off the losing mentality, no matter how many new players come in. Teams aren't just going to let you roll them over. Look how many years Bradford have been trying to get it right.

We all hope of course that we can go straight back up. But it's never that simple, sometimes it can take 3,4, 5 years to formulate a squad good enough for promotion.

It's game 3....I don't think anybody can read anything into form or results at this stage.

We can read enough to see that the tactical and motivational malaise that produced such a losing mentality last season has not been exorcised.

He’s got to go. He should have gone in February, but he simply has to go now.

This losing mentality after relegation is what’s holding us back too, we were relegated to league 2 in 2004 and we just haven’t been able to shake off that losing mentality since.

These are dark times for Carlisle when we're getting beat off much smaller clubs than us who can only get crowds of 6000.

Big stadium, small club.

I remember the days when you were amusingly over confident about CUFC following the arrival of new owners.

Fast forward only a few months and it's the perfect 180. Dark times indeed.

You've gotta love it.

It's not our new owners it's the manager who is the problem.

He should have gone last season along with his staff. Our football is absolutely awful to watch just so negative and slow.

I still don’t think we’ll be the worst team in the football league, or second worst. And believe me if I thought we were I’d say it.

We are a really poor team with a manager long past his expiry date, but we still have enough good players to keep us out of the relegation spots in my opinion.

I expected this. I said many times over the summer there’ll be a hangover from last season and we’ll have a poor start. But I think in the end we’ll have enough to stay up and be around those 15th/16th places come the end of the season.

Yup, Carver is a deluded man. And a big reason why we are disliked on here with people taking great joy in our misery.

I assumed it was some WUMmery as opposed to delusion, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

For what it’s worth I quite like Carlisle. Still feel bad we postponed that game last minute in 2012 before we had our undersoil heating installed. Although if I remember correctly, Winkelman was actually fairly generous in dealing with the rearranged fixture with free extra tickets, coaches and refunds, so I guess we somewhat atoned.

I think it’s a bit of both.

Simpson isn’t helping himself really and I suppose this is the risk of sticking with a manager who has had to deal with having a losing side weekly.

Yes mk dons were in the summer strong favourites with a strong side, but they went into yesterday with a lot of pressure having lost all their games and manager being viewed by many as possibly sacked if he lost again.

So Simpsons approach to this was playing 5-3-2 with 6 defenders and two defensive midfielders in your starting eleven……you’ve decided from the get go your side isnt good enough, has no chance of winning and best to hope for a draw……..instead of upping the pressure on the mk dons manager you’ve let him fully off the hook let him play the style and approach he wants and whacked all the pressure back on yourself……incredibly stupid approach…..especially when finally signing an attack based midfielder due to the lack of options to then keep him on the bench to stick with six defenders and two defensive midfielders.

He has clearly now lost any self belief in his team and his tactics to go and say ‘let them worry about us’

A very good post. There comes a point where you have to be proactive not reactive. I don't think it would have worked yeaterday but it would have been worth trying from your point of view.

The thing is when Simpson has twice been successful with Carlisle we were very attack based and scored goals for fun we must have easily been top scorers in 2006 and were 3rd top scorers in 2022.

It was direct but it was all about having a back 3 to r 4 that were dependable to not worry about and getting the ball forward and players into the box.

If Simpson now when even an opportunity is placed in front of him (badly out of form side under pressure) to take the game to the other side………won’t anymore take the game to the other side he’s mentally lost the one aspect of management which has worked for him.

Simpson seems to be following his usual route. Unemployed, brought in to save a club, does so and wins promotion, gets a big contract and stops doing what got him the job in the first place

I'm just looking at what it says now and of last season and our attendances are superior.

But I couldn't careless about since records began as we've been around for 120 years and you've just been a club for 20 years so it would not be a fair comparison. Try spending years and years in the doldrums of this league with no investment and an owner say that he'd like the club he owns to be nice little non-league club. That's enough to drop any clubs attendances.

MK Dons have had much investment and ambition put into your club since you were formed.

Exactly, not a fair comparison as we’ve only had 20 years to build a fanbase in Milton Keynes vs your 100+ years in Cumbria…and we have still somehow averaged 2,000+ more.

Also, you were in a higher league last season so of course your attendances were higher. We regularly got between 8,000 and 11,000 in L1 (even when we got relegated) so last season is hardly a fair comparison either…

Is that the limit of your expectations this season, staying up?. I thought you were one of the favourites to go up?

How's Charlie boy getting on, has he scored yet. Hes bound to score at Valley Parade in a couple of weeks time!

Simpson isn’t a great manager really, he can be a good one but his style is just following the basics.

Find an excellent defender who will organise that area himself and have complete confidence in that player to keep the defence competent enough you can chuck 7-8 players into the other sides half because they will ‘deal with it’

Then just get ball forward, nothing fancy no big massive flair, add a creative player and rest just get forward to give options and get into box……simplistic but worked twice.

I heard and read on forums about possibly Huntington causing issues last season and am unsure if this lost his trust in a key experienced old player at the back, or it was the sheer ineptness in defence last season but he doesn’t get enough Ken forward anymore and with a direct style it is all about players surging forelward to either supply or support the big forward it’s useless if the big player has zero support.

I find it sad, Simpsons gone through ansh*tty life changing illness, came out of other side with a promotion and it’s a very sad way he’s going to go out.

The Simpson out calls have on while been kept to the forums at the moment I do t think ANY Carlisle fan really wants personal calls for his head at matches but it will come Saturday if they fail to win sadly.

The owners have made it clear they expect promotion, whether that’s top 3 or playoffs. And they’ve provided the budget to achieve that.

For me personally, I don’t think that’s realistic. Last season was such a confidence drainer, I expected a hangover particularly in the early part of the season and that’s what we’re seeing. We’ve signed some good players but there are still quite a few from last season including the manager and staff who I think will still have post traumatic shock from what happened. This is why I think the manager needs to go. As Dave alluded to further up he’s gone all negative from the shock of last season. The only way this changes is by someone replacing him. I’m sure it will happen asap when the owners realise we’ve no chance of top 7 with him in charge.

As for Wyke, he’s looked good in terms of his all round play, his intelligence and link up. Hasn’t got a goal yet as the team has been playing shite, but I’m sure one will come soon. Maybe a consolation goal at Valley Parade.
