Think it's time to start this up.

I wonder who's gonna manage to last the distance, personally think Portsmouth will come through the pack and win the league.

Some tasty fixtures about on Boxing Day (if they aren't called off)

Plymouth v Yeovil
Northampton v York
Oxford v Exeter
Orient v Portsmouth
Accrington v Carlisle
Wimbledon v Bristol Rovers
Mansfield v Morecambe
Luton v Wycombe

The top 4 should all be pretty confident of taking maximum points from their respective games, but football never quite works like that.

The signs are that they'll both be staying til the end of the season. If they do then I think we'll finish in the top 3.

Orient are a bit of a bogey side for us, so not taking anything for granted on Boxing Day.

That's a good point, losing those two would certainly be a blow.

Hope we can get in another centre half and another striker in next month, Brisley from Peterborough would be ideal. Apparently we've got a bit of cash to spend too so hopefully Wilder can use it wisely like he did last January.

Morecambe and York should really be looking at 4 points though I'm hopeful we can get 6.

Now we've fallen to 8th we need to be getting 6 points from our next 3 to avoid losing ground on the Play off teams. The 3rd game is Accrington at home. Shame it's so early because if you believe Nicky Hunt (Ex Accrington) they look likely to lose Windass but I doubt it will be as early as the 2nd!

We (Wombles) havent won since October, if that keeps up we may feature in the relegation dance at the end of the season.
They're only featured because they are playing Bristol Rovers (7th)

I hope Carlisle can remain in this thread until the end of the season, though I can't see us threatening the top 3. I'd be reasonably happy with play-offs, but our form at the moment suggests the top 3 isn't out of reach.

Interestingly, after Boxing Day we'll have played the entire top 10 away from home except Pompey. We'll see some additions in January, and Curle has already picked out 3 players who will improve our squad.

The best side I've seen this season was Portsmouth, they absolutely dominated us at Brunton Park yet somehow we knicked a point.

Good point, they've all got to come up to Brunton Park now (apart from Plymouth)

Hooray, THIS thread... and we're in it!

No promotion/relegation thread would be complete without the alternative table (later on it will show average points totals for playoffs/automatic etc.)

40 Portsmouth

Bit of a bonus to be involved in this thread. Didn't really know what to expect on our return to the league, particularly as we have pretty much the same squad as last season.

However, I think we have a genuine chance of finishing top 7 based on what I've seen so far. Only Pompey stood out as a class above.

We have a excellent away record and seem to have finally turned the corner at home. We have the second top scorer in the league and a great manager who is looking to strengthen in January.

If we can sneak a play off place then the experience the squad gained last season could prove an advantage.

Long way to go yet and I think there are a lot of teams in with a chance, just glad we're one of them.

Ha - you do one of these as well. I post one on the Oxford forum each week but not as colorful as yours. I don't know how to do spread sheets on this forum so you might like to look at the last post on this link.

http://yellowsforum.co.uk/thread/21955/alternative-l2-table-2016

All cells with 2016 in them are adjusted each week and, of course, the league positions.

Edit - my username is different on there - but the avatar is the same.

When we lose on Saturday, can we kindly be moved into the mid-table thread, please? We don't play any of the really shit teams until Luton at the start of March.

Having been on the Oxford forum when we played you, the fact there was a Sergei on there did not escape my attention.

I don't think there is a way to put tables in this forum, even the HTML kind, I've looked.

I knew that, but it was nice to be featured, if only briefly, on our way down.

A number of things that can generally be summed up with: 1. Cox got injured and 2. Hendon is clueless.

To be fair this league has so little in it this year anyone down to 15th could have a run and still get promoted. It will be interesting to see if anyone does good business in the loan window. For example I expect us and Bristol rovers to be in for Tubbs.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I am usually one of the more negative fans and I also never thought we'd go up this season, but I personally think our reaction to the floods may well show a character that could and should see us push top 3 this season, maybe even catch top. a lot for us depends on that crucial Yeovil 3rd round cup game.....if we could win that and nab £70,000 and then pull a plum 4th round draw to make another 100-200,000 hitting January then we could really push on.

I am starting to think Plymouth will fall away, their manager is already dishing out excuses and excuses, if it wasn't injuries its an inability to compete financially to algae on the pitch etc, etc..........you win leagues through utter arrogance and confidence, not through doubts and excuses.

Not sure on the others, Northampton have superbly gelled together on the back of lots of off field problems, but now that is sorted might they lose abit of that unity or will it continue, I think if they hold firm over December I can see them pushing on. Oxford seem very dependable this season, but have been stuttering a wee bit, if they could add a player or two they certainly have the stability and solid base to push on, Portmouth will be there or thereabouts certainly.

will Bristol Rovers finally actually add anyone? Accy I think will get b*ggered in Dec/Jan where as usual they lose afew matches and have too much of a backlog, but they are the side of the lot with absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

outside play-off lot...............well any could easily get in.

Relegation thread hasn't been started yet
I know there's a long way to go but for a change it looks like the promotion thread will be more interesting, have more clubs involved and have more twists and turns than the relegation thread.

The only way to do it is to screenshot and post the image.

INTRUDER ALERT!

I honestly believe we'll make the play-offs, our post-Money performances have been at a consistent level. If the quality isn't quite there, the effort and desire certainly has been.

We have more than matched the top teams (beaten Plymouth and Northampton), several Oxford fans said we were one of the better teams to visit the Kassam, scored 4 away at Carlisle. I also want to say we were cheated out of the home game Vs Pompey, but I can't really defend Roberts' moronic behaviour

Accrington are the only team who have genuinely impressed me so far.

Fancy ourselves to finish up in the top 3. Think Plymouth may fall away with Oxford and Pompey going up with ourselves.

I know you don't seem to like experimental 361 but they seem to think that of the top four, Oxford are the least likely to bottle it. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, that's little comfort.

Maybe if we signed a winger and put Roofe back in the middle, I'd be more willing to believe that!

A few Boxing Day postponements has had an effect at the top of the table; Northampton, Carlisle, Accrington and Mansfield the victims. Accy, in fact, have 3 games in hand on most teams which could have a positive or negative impact later in the season.

Current Standings:
Team | GP | GD | Pts
Plymouth | 23 | 15 | 46
Oxford
| 23 | 17 | 44
Northampton
| 22 | 10 | 43
-----------------------
Portsmouth | 23 | 19 | 40
Bristol R
| 23 | 8 | 37
Wycombe
| 22 | 8 | 37
Carlisle
| 22 | 5 | 37
------------------------
Accrington | 20 | 12 | 36
Leyton Orient
| 23 | 6 | 36
Mansfield
| 22 | 10 | 34
Cambridge
| 23 | 3 | 33

Our game against Hartlepool has been rescheduled til mid-February, so we'll have 2 games in hand on most clubs.

Newport v Plymouth
Yeovil v Oxford
Northampton v Accrington
Portsmouth v Luton
Bristol Rovers v Leyton Orient
Wycombe v Crawley

A couple of key games there, mainly Cobblers v Accy and Gas v Orient. Hopefully a win for Northampton and an Orient win/draw so we aren't cut adrift.

For me I would rather have points in the bank, than have games in hand.
