I think anybody with a football brain realises that Holmes last season was a much better player than Roofe. However age plays a huge part in transfer value.

£3mil for a bloke that has had one good season in L2 and has never played above that level is ridiculous whatever way you look at it.

It's very hard to discuss this statement because it's entirely arbitrary.

He obviously has age and potential on his side but I reckon Holmes offers more in his overall game currently.

Not sure how I've ended up in this debate, I'm not really bothered I just responded to the 'player of the season' 'journeymen' jibe which is quite funny when you consider the fact that Roofe had already played for 6 clubs before Oxford at only 22.

So in a thread that so far has consisted of one group of fans saying "if you ignore the 18 points and the two head-to-head defeats then we were the better football side", that's the thing that gets your bullshit detector going?

It's weird how everyone with a brain in this situation supports the team Holmes played for last year or the one he plays for now.

If only there was some sort of objective award for individual players which could show us who was best.

Yes, you and Northampton fans are welcome to go at it but if at any point Ricky gets dragged in to it (albeit indirectly) then it's on!

It always makes me nervous when teams don't rate themselves.

Apologies Dolph but good men must correct ignorance where they see it.

Anyway as you say on to the game and I'd hate to be responsible for taking a thread off track. Away from arbitrary predictions of score, a shiny tuppence if any Cobbler can tell me anything interesting to look out for in regards to their merry bunch of miscreants on Boxing Day.

I'd be very surprised to hear any Leeds fans wanting Holmes over Roofe.
He was getting some pelters for his first few months at Leeds, he's picked up a bit lately and is doing alright in a decent team.

I'm sure if they were struggling he'd have come on for some criticism given the price tag. Decent player nonetheless.

This is an odd take because the normal thing would be to give him credit for how well they're doing. Plus the best players will always get stick if a team underperforms. Leeds fans seem to love the guy in any case.

As for today:

Northampton fans singing "that's why we're champions" and they don't know how right they are. If they'd been offered 0-0 and a 90th minute corner they'd have taken it, and it worked out well today. Bigger, stronger team that still do the basics well with the hold up play of those strikers.

Not a good showing from Oxel. Having to bring on Taylor and Roberts to try and win a game shows where we are light as a squad and the new joiners in defence need to learn to play it along the ground. Didn't ask nearly enough questions of a good keeper today.

I enjoyed the quote from Rob Page after the game tremendously. Onwards and upwards as ever.

I didn't make it to the game but judging from your comment I guess you smashed us 5-0, dominated possession and had all the chances in the game. Good job.

Not at all Robie,
Thought you had the most chances but we had the better ones. there was only ever gonna be one goal in it and luckily
for us we got it.
Tinpots right, I would have taken a point at 90 minutes after our performances lately.
Neither keeper had much to do bar routine cross taking and crap free kick fielding.
Coach stopped at Bicester on the way for a few beers (bus wanker today) and I`m now having a wee dram.
At least the cat`s not hiding from me this week

It was a poor game that neither team deserved to win as the shooting from both was awful. Even the winning goal came from a mishit shot turning into a cross/pass.

Didn't help that the Ref was a spineless wanker who wasn't going to send off anyone regardless. He was happy to give the 1st yellow but refused to give a 2nd. O'Toole should have been sent off in the 1st half for a 2nd yellow (even O'Toole had his head in his hands after realising what he had done) and then had another go earlyish in the 2nd half yet still the Ref refused to give a 2nd yellow. The Ref repeated this with the Northampton 31 (iirc) who should also have received a 2nd yellow. He booked otherNorthampton players for their 1st yellow for less.
