I've got a ticket for tommorrow but I really don't think I can be arsed to go at all. Such a gap in class it's boring Sri Lanka have gone so poor. I think if the weather holds up we could win before tea.

Take a bow Tom Kohler-Cadmore, 127 off 54 balls against Durham in the T20 Blast tonight.

Another in a very talented young Worcestershire team that, if they can be kept together for long enough, will certainly go places in the years ahead. I'm more excited about this current group of players that at any time for many, many years.

Just watched Sussex smash 242 off their 20 overs. Glos lost by 1 run on DL in the end, but we were ahead of it by 2 runs the over before they went off.

That is unlucky!

Weather for you I guess.

Which will be the issue with a day/night test match.

Somerset's obvious problem still apparent to everyone other than those in charge then. We can hit near enough 200 as many times as we want, if we have a shite attack will still lose regularly.

It's a bit meh tbh. Watching a under prepared, inexperienced Sri Lanka team get pummelled isn't much fun. I love seeing England doing well but without their superstars of the previous generation Sri Lanka were never going to put up a proper fight.

How much of a challenge will Pakistan put up later in the season? Yes it won't quite be the same devastating conditions for Jimmy but still...

You'd hope a bit more of a challenge. Pakistan have better batsman and better seamers tbf.

Can we not just enjoy the fact it's us dealing out the heavy blows recently rather than being on the other end of them?

Since I've started watching England in test match cricket I've seen some awful sides, some terrible days of test match cricket and been on the end of some absolute drubbings. We've now got a team that play with a sense of freedom with the bat, and two seam bowlers who have over 700 tests wickets between them. Bairstow came in on Thursday at 80 odd for 5 and scored his 100 at not far off a-run-a-ball, ridiculously ballsy but the intent is fantastic.

I'm loving watching this side at the moment - in all formats. Sri Lanka may not be the most fantastic opposition and if you look at their side currently they've really not even come close to replacing some of the names that have retired in recent years, but it makes it all the more sweet after being on the end of those whitewashes down under that it's now England taking the command.

It's a good job you're not old enough to remember the genuinely bad days...

I agree with you mostly and I know it sounds like I'm complaining about England doing well but there does need to be a degree of competition to make the contest interesting. Watching Sri Lanka capitulate against the moving ball was embarrassing for a test side and there are several county sides with a more potent seam attack. ( England made hard work of their batting by themselves imo). Test cricket needs to more competitive than what I saw yesterday.

Just enjoy dishing out the drubbings.

Sri Lanka are going though a transition just as we have recently, Australia too. These things happen. It's good to see England comprehensively beating the poorer sides rather than limping over the line or ending up with a draw.

As for the Natwest Blast, good to see Kent pick up from where they left off in last years group stages, No arguments as we were beaten by the eventual winners (just) but the performances last year warranted a place at finals day. Maybe this year.

Yeah, I sound like a spoiler brat, I certainly wouldn't have been complaing about easy wins 20 years ago !

Daniel Bell-Drummond has got to be knocking on the England door, so much class and potential there

Anyone who had to endure watching England during the 90s certainly wouldn't be complaining about us wiping the floor with the opposition now

I think the main issue with this Test is the wisdom of playing at Headingley in May. Of all the Test grounds, it is the one most affected by overhead conditions, and Yorkshire in May you're only going to get one sort of game. I bet the ticket sales for days 4 and 5 weren't too good. Headingley is a great ground to watch Test cricket, but it needs to be played when there is a chance it may go past three days.

Indeed, though I'm well aware of the stats from the early 90s and before.

Since you've been watching jjh we've had our best spells ever mate. And on the verge of it again. We win these 2 series and I believe we are the current holders of all the trophies against every other test nation.

Ticket sales are always shit at headingley. This year was an improvement for days 1-3. Day 4 looks empty day 5 not on sale

Indeed mate, I'm quite lucky with what I've seen but it's not to be taken for granted - I watched that Aussie team be absolutely dismantled with retirements etc, a team can go from a number one side to a side in a 'transitional phase' in the space of a year.

That is correct about the the trophies. Since 2003 or so, England have been mostly really good at test cricket, just with 2 or 3 fairly short bad spells.

Apart from Pakistan am I right in thinking we've won away series everywhere too since 2009?

I think we've only drawn in New Zealand and Sri Lanka in that time too. We've certainly won in Aus, India (twice?) and South Africa, which is mightily impressive.

If we beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka this summer we'll have beaten every test playing nation in our most recent series with them.

Not quite true we drew away at windies but beat them at home before that. Same with new Zealand I think last 2 series have been draws
