Good point and also with no Harry Brook for the series. My guess is India are going to do what they did last time and prepare one that turns square from the first ball for the next test but I think against this England team that might not have the same result. One thing this batting lineup won’t do is get caught on the crease just playing negatively like that one did, they will try to score and once there’s something to bowl to then there’s a chance.
Harry Brook could return later in the series.

Bashir in for Leach and Jimmy for Wood for the second test. Personally would have wanted Wood for that extra pace but guess they have to manage him. Jimmy will at least keep it tight. Does give a nice variety in the England spin attack of offie, leggie and a left armer.

Nicely balanced end of day 1 with India 336/6 having chosen to bat first. Credit where it’s due it’s been some innings from Jaiswal for them but England have bowled really well to the rest on a good pitch.

I can't believe that England have started a match with 4 spinners?

Depends if you class Root as a front line spinner but it’s the same makeup as the previous test with one seamer, 3 frontline spinners and Root. Been interesting to watch as can not remember England ever doing this before.

A rather unlikely 399 to win even with Bazball.

Actually did with the ball again but another big innings made the difference.

This time from Gill - who survived 2 early close DRS calls.

Fine margins and all that.

332 left to win end of the day with 9 wickets in hand after losing Duckett. Any other team in any other era you’d say there’s no chance of them pulling it off but with this England team and their approach you can’t rule it out. Loved Rehan going for his shots final over as well as the nightwatchman or hawk if you use the Bazball vernacular.

Well done to the bowlers again as well. Second test in a row have taken 20 wickets in India which is no mean feat in itself even if India ultimately win. Jimmy just keeps solidifying his GOAT status.

Probably need a big innings from Root. I think it's about time he scored another ton.

Definitely due a score. Needs to be able to see off Bumrah as he’s the one that he’s had a little bit of trouble with. Not in exclusive company on that one to be fair.

Series level at 1-1 then. Was always a big ask to chase it down but gave it a good go. Think it’s been another entertaining series so far. At some point if England are to win it they need to look to cash in more first innings. On the plus side two tests in India with all 20 wickets taken, got to be a positive that.

Hopefully not going to be a repeat of the last series where we crumble away after the first test .

Couple of big Indian scorers was the difference really .

Looks like we let a good position slip with a dropped catch and lack of reviews .

Looks a lost cause now , but after the fightback in first test anything can happen. Just hope Root plays his natural game and doesn't go all gung ho. He needs a score of 130 odd to get his batting average back up to 50 where it belongs.

Disappointing collapse this morning after Duckett's heroics.

Root and Bairstow just not turned up yet.

Definitely our most disappointing session of the series so far.

Didn't build on a good position at all .

Root gets Rohit though.

The Duckett run out probably sums up the last 2 days.

Are we heading into the same sort of territory as the last series?

Start well , be competitive then get a couple of hammerings.

This must be heading towards one of our heaviest ever defeats by runs surely?

Lost by 434 runs. Self inflicted some of this. Bazball needs a rethink. It just doesn't work at anymore against a team like India. 4-1 must be odds on now. Even Jimmy went for an unprecidented 6 an over. Spending 10 days in Abu Dhabi probably didn't help either.

As Mike Atherton said on Sky you cannot keep giving away big first innings leads particularly in India as unlike in England the pitches tend to get worse and worse.

It’s a good job we won that first test because we’re getting smashed in all the rest now 100%.

We're that sh1t that India are resting players and handing out test debuts to players . Way ahead of us.

Well they did that in the last test and one of the new guys got 2 50s!

We are just swapping like for like really.

Maybe more accuracy than all out pace and different type of spin ?

Root was due a big score, hopefully push 400 now and put the pressure on India a bit.

Excellent day for England.

Some nice surprises with Robinson’s 50 and Bashir getting 4 wickets so far .

O dear, not really looking as though this score is going to be anywhere near enough.
