It's the whole balance of the side that's a mess. You can't just stack the side with all-rounders or bowlers that bat abit. We need a couple more batters in there. I know root, stokes, brook, duckett ect are unavailable due to playing in test series and buttler is injured but they could have picked a couple of extra batters like Sam Hain or tom banton instead of someone like overton that's a pointless selection to me. Out the 11 that played yesterday Adil Rashid is the one in the team that has the most one day runs which is all you need to know about the team we selected to play.

Based on what I've seen of Jordan Cox so far in an England shirt he looks out of his depth at international level. He is going be playing the 3 tests as a wicketkeeper batter instead of smith at the new Zealand tour. Smith has done well so far at international level but Cox looks dreadful.

Livingston isn't very consistent but he's played one of them innings that he's able to do occasionally to win us this game. Good support from salt, bethall and Curran with the 50s aswell. I still think the balance of the side is totally wrong but at least it's a win.

I will repeat what I said the other day, I worry about Cox replacing Jamie Smith as wicket keeper batsman for the test series against new Zealand as smith has looked really good whereas Cox has looked totally out of his depth.

Tough start for Bethell and Pope takes the gloves so moves down the order.

Pope has kept in 3 tests previously and done alright but I'm presuming England will call up a replacement for Cox for the remainder of the series. At least when woakes Atkinson and carse all play it means England bat deep instead of having 3 number 11s in the team.

Really well poised test match. England should get a lead but usually over there the pitches get better to bat on as the tests progress so need to go as long as possible. Mature knock from Brook, loved the fact he didn’t just try to wallop the bowlers and worked a lot of singles and twos instead. Did rely on some luck with the dropped catches but as they say you make your own luck and he took advantage.

See if can get it as close to 500 as possible though lead is great right now. NZ having a ridiculous amount of drops has shown England are way above par already. Brilliant from Atkinson. A test match to forget so far for Woakes with both bat and ball.

Only downside is Stokes pulling up lame while bowling. Don’t need that as don’t think they can trust Bashir to hold an end up at the moment. Brilliant from Carse though, seems areal find.

Providing everybody is fit then there's no need really to make any changes to the team for the next test. England don't work that way though and they like to rotate there bowlers so wouldn't be surprised see Potts and stone play. Robinson could come up as wicketkeeper but be harsh to drop pope after finally making some runs.

Pretty reckless start by England with the bat with 3 wickets down in the first hour. Just occasionally it is ok to give the first hour to the bowlers and not try to belt them like Crawley did in his brief cameo. Henry bowled beautifully for NZ it must be said.
