That's the point I was trying to make. The best form of defence is attack. The whole essence of Test cricket is changing. Over 1750 runs at over 4 an over. Love it! I also love Joe Root but his captaincy was often negative as was Cook's.

Becoming a bit of a regular occurrence this with England. Batting this way they will get rolled under 100 a couple of times but for me the reward outweighs the risk overall and let’s be honest playing “properly” they were getting knocked over cheaply anyway.

Great knock by Bairstow and Jamie Overton too. From 55-6 to have us at 264-6 at the close is some going.

Finish 31 ahead.

Very unlucky for Overton.

296 to win, potentially another exciting run chase in order. Well bowled Jack Leech and Matt Potts. The latter has been the find of the summer.

Yorkshire allowing free admission at Headingley tomorrow as well, great to see if this becomes a trend after Notts did the same.

After the usual failings from the openers Root and Pope doing a steady job .

Just need to be there at close of play .

Yep though the way England go nowadays playing for the close isn’t really a thing anymore. That reverse sweep Root did to Wagner was incredible, love to see players show the confidence to do that.

NZ I think are going to end up wasting two reviews on ones that clearly outside the line. Came across a little desperate I think.

Might well be a 3-0 series win which is probably harsh on NZ but we have been so clinical in the 4th innings.

Regarding the free entry. Do you just turn up at the turnstile or is it more complicated than that? Very tempted today.

From what I saw you had to go on Yorkshires website and get one as they were close to selling out yesterday.

Another run chase made to look easy by Bairstow and Root again .

Chasing a fourth innings target of 378 should not be made to look as easy as England have just made it. What a great summer this is.

This is going to make it impossible for any team to try and set up a target or declaration against us as you just know England will go for it.

Highest run chase England have ever made, and we did it before lunch with 7 wickets in hand. Incredible stuff. Reinventing the test match style I think, great summer.

Will the Aussies be shitting themselves?

No I thought not either!

Doing it in 4 consecutive matches is impressive and not a fluke though.

He's a definite thorn in our side.

Yes - we basically had them in the same situation as in the 2nd game .

4/5 down for not much but this time India managed to still reach the target set .

I was pleased to see Livingstone get his chance, but his wickets are very expensive and he gives his own wicket away too easily. Worrying that South Africa won that so easily. I hope we can be better in next one.

Question

In the unfinished game yesterday between England and SA: are the player stats discarded or are they still valid. I.e. would de Kock's 92 still be included in his ODI averages? I feel I should know this but senior moment.

Thought they played it perfectly to be honest. Scored heavily early to put pressure on the bowlers and then really choked us up during the middle overs of our innings. Good contest between two good sides though, can't call the decider.
