So get rid of Cahil, Milner, Henderson, Lallana and Jagielka from the starting line up options (althought I'd keep them in the squad due to lack of optiosn)and we have a much improved squad.

Forgot Walcott even existed, why is he in the squad? He won't be once Rooney is around

Hart, Forster, Heaton (whoever)
Clyne, Walker, Smalling, Stones, Cahill, Jagielka, Rose, Bertrand (unless Shaw gets better) Cahill and Jagielka due to no other options
Dier, Alli, Barkley, Drinkwater, Henderson, Sterling, Wilshere (if fit) otherwise carrick or noble although we know it will be milner
Rooney, Kane, Vardy, Wellbeck, Sturridge

My 23

If everybody's fit, I think Hodgson plays this against Russia:

-------------------Hart

Clyne-----Smalling----Cahill----Rose

-------------------Dier----------------------

-------Wilshere---Henderson---

--------------------Alli--------------

------------Rooney----Kane

Which then, when we're attacking transforms into:

-------------------Hart----------------

---Smalling------------Cahill----
-------------------Dier-----------------
Clyne------------------------------------
-----------Henderson-----------------
-------------------Wilshere-------Rose
---------------Alli----------------------------
----------------------------Kane-----------
--------------Rooney---------------------

Obviously switch that around if we're attacking down the right instead.

If things aren't going for us in games, then a Vardy or Welbeck can come on and sacrifice one of the midfield trio behind Alli which will revert to a 4-2-3-1 and add a bit more width.

I don't really see any logic behind starting Rooney.

Do Vardy and Kane deserve to start? Yes --> 2 upfront, so...

Hart

Clyne - Cahill - Smalling - Rose

Dier

Wilshere (if fit) - Henderson

Alli

Kane - Vardy

So after all the talk of Henderson being likely to start it looks likely he might miss out
2 months before it all starts and 5 weeks before the squad is selected. Weirdly I wouldn't be surprised if number 1 crock Wilshere gets picked now

Henderson out for the season - is that his Euro dreams over bearing in mind the competition in midfield?

Wilshere's just started training so he should hopefully also be out injured for the Euros.

Looks like Welbeck will be out of the Euros- chance for Defoe or Walcott?

Urgh, not Walcott. Flattered to deceive for years. Defoe deserves a shot. Bang in form, he'd be a good option to have in reserve.

Welbeck is primarily a wide forward for England. I don't see Defoe getting anywhere near the squad unless there are some injuries. Hodgson will probably use the vacancy to put Delph or Drinkwater in there, assuming Walcott's place is already guaranteed.

Looks like the FA have accidentally leaked the team.

Very harsh on Walker and Rose to be left behind Shaw. I'm not sure if Shaw is even ready yet.

Delph's move to City really helped his international chances out.

Got away from the sinking ship of Aston Villa though

Their captain abandoning ship just before the start of the season to sit in City's bench probably had a big influence on Villa's season.

Aside from the Shaw inclusion, I'm not too unhappy with that.

As well as Walker's played this season, if Clyne is Hodgson's number 1 then it seems silly to waste a squad space on Walker when Stones can move across into right back if necessary. Mind you, I'd have been more inclined to have sacrificed Jagielka as you have Dier who can be a 4th centre back option.

Midfield wise it looks as I thought. I imagine Drinkwater has replaced Welbeck essentially which indicates we are going with a diamond. I'm surprised Townsend isn't even on the standby list. I thought he may have played his way into the squad actually. Noble being on the standby list is a bit pathetic really. Try him out before the tournament, don't just give him false hope to please the West Ham fans.

Front 4 as we thought.

All in all, just the Shaw inclusion over Rose which is ridiculous. The rest is just down to personal opinion really.

Not sure they'd have done a great deal better, think their problems run a lot deeper than Delph leaving. Being in a struggling Villa team may have actually been worse for him.

I'd not actually have been too peeved if Shaw was ahead of Bertrand but not taking Danny Rose is an incredibly poor decision. I think Rose will end up in the squad as I just can't see Shaw being fit, not Henderson really. Feel for Welbeck though.

Agreed on the Townsend point Roy's always liked him and he is in great form.

I have a horrible feeling Jagielka, Henderson, Milner and Lallana could all start a game so we might as well not bother going

If Lallana plays as he has done under Klopp then he's a good option. The other 3 I agree are tits.

It's irking me now. Rose and Walker have played extremely well as attacking full backs for Spurs all season. If we play, as I suspect, in a diamond, then we are going to need full backs of attacking quality to provide a genuine threat from wise. I like Clyne but he's not better offensively than Walker. Rose, previously being a left winger, is very useful in the final third. I know full backs are meant to defend first but I'm going into this tournament with the mindset that our defence is not going to be one of the best anyway so to do well we're going to have to be very offensive and score a fair few. We really could have drop Jagielka for Walker. Bad call Roy if that leaked sheet is true.

I imagine the following then:

---------------------Hart

Clyne---Smalling---Cahill-----Bertrand

----------------------Dier-----------------------

---------Henderson-Wilshere-------------

-------------------------Alli---------------------

---------------Kane----Rooney-----------

Will he drop Rooney into midfield like LVG has been?

Why isn't Welbeck in the squad? I don't particularly rate him but think he seems to perform better at international level than club.

Possibly biased, I'd have Walker and Rose over Bertrand and in particular Shaw. The Shaw inclusion is fucking ridiculous if this is true.

We could possibly see something like:

Hart
Clyne Cahill Smalling Bertrand
Wilshere Alli
Sturridge Rooney Sterling
Kane
Unfortunately, I can see him playing Wilshere over Dier who would fit that role perfectly and frees up the two full backs to attack freely when he drops into a back 3. Wilshere Alli and Rooney would rotate where required, probably with Rooney ending up playing the deepest of the 3 as he tends to come back looking for the ball a lot.

I wouldn't have minded risking Zaha if Welbeck is injured (just checked google).
