This might get shut down and probably fairly so given the match thread, but why do fans HATE Gerrard?

I'm a North London armchair Liverpool fan but chatting to my gooner mates tonight, the vibe was "I respect him but he's always slagged us off" which is a fair excuse (in a way). But through out today there's been "bantz" hate about him but there is generally a hatred towards him and I was wondering why?

Just read it again.

That post was so genuinely bad, I'd like a legitimate ban please. I'm thinking a couple of weeks will properly learn me.

I've been drinking but there's no excuse for that. I'm cringing. And spending ages trying to make sure the punctuation and grammar in this post is correct.

The matchday looks like a bore and your post is shorter to read so I'll answer this here.

Gerrard was a great player which I really admired for his long-rangers. He was adored by the fans because he was a local lad like Carragher. Overtime though his diving got on my nerves (Istanbul, a particular Merseyside derby where the ref gives a yellow, Gerrard has a word, the ref gives a red (or something like that)) and I don't really get why he can't just realise that he's not bigger than the club. He took an age to realise that his days as a second striker were over and only had a single decent season since, he can't take being on the bench and I'm positive that him not being in the squad anymore will do the club a lot of good. Liverpool need a fresh start and one without Gerrard.

I'm probably going to get killed by Liverpool's armchair hardcore support for several inaccuracies in that paragraph but those are my reasons.

Just read that back. Everything about that post was shit. Admin, call me a prick and ban me for a week.

Think you owe StevenCC some money no?

Some of what you say is fair Mistermagic, but I don't know where you get the idea that he himself thinks he's bigger than the the club.

That's right, Red is the muscle I send out when my customers feel like they don't have to pay. I don't take kindly to that sort of attitude. Get him Red.

He seemed to take a while to realise that he wasnt good enough to play second striker and then again to realise that he should probably become more of a squad player for the benefit of the club. The decision to step down wasn't entirely necessary I don't think. Had he accepted a role as squad player like Lampard did at Chelsea, he could have gone on for another 2 years imo.
My feeling is that he won't admit that and for such reason, thinks he owns the earth and his dog.

You could start dozens of threads
i.e
why all the hate for Rooney
why all the hate for Lampard
why all the hate for Terry
why all the hate for Rio Ferdinand
why all the hate for Heskey

The only one which sounds wrong is Hate and Heskey in the same sentence. How can anyone hate him :hesk:

I don't hate Gerrard. I admire him for his skill. Between the years of 2004 and 2008 he was an outstanding midfielder, one of the best in the world. Produced such outstanding moments as that goal against Olympiakos, that Champions League final performance against Munich, that FA Cup Final performance against West Ham. If there was one player I would have loved City to have signed in that period of time, It would have been Gerrard.

However, that was 3 of the most painful hours of television I've ever had to watch on Saturday evening. Sky should be ashamed of themselves. Crystal Palace were not even mentioned at all in the build up to the game. Hardly any other Liverpool player was mentioned at all in the build up. It was an hour of Gerrard. Gerrard. Gerrard. Then the teams come out, great atmosphere produced by both sets of fans and you end up with 90 mins of bloody Alan Parry making everything that happened into the Steven Gerrard show. 'Lallana scores for Liverpool! He's played in the same team as Steven Gerrard this season! Gerrard is playing in his last home game for Liverpool! Gerrard is beating Palace 1-0!!' When Glenn Murray scored the pen to make it 3-1, Parry put on his most biased voice and couldn't mask his unhappiness that Crystal Palace were going to win. Then uttering the dog shit words 'You'll never walk alone Steven' after the final whistle. :msi:

And he's still got 1 game left to play for Liverpool before moving to LA Galaxy. Yes he's not even retiring, he's going to join another team! :hb:

None of that is Gerrards fault though, that is Sky trying to make an 'emotional drama' out of it, just like when you see UEFA/FIFA matches when they do slow-mo's of players and the action when there is a brief rest in the game, to make it look dramatic. It is rather nauseating and I could see why rival fans would get pissed off at the player because of the actions of the tv directors.

i hate him as he was one of the dirtiest players ive seen at Goodison, he constantly dives like a starfish and was over hyped by himself as well as the daytrippers from Penaltypool

He was never world class as he never performed well at world level, he is on a par with Dennis Wise and the like

Paul Scholes was twice the player as is Rooney

I don't hate him either. I feel a bit sorry for him because he's been told he's a Liverpool legend for about ten years having not won a single league title, and he's had to bring up someone else's kid. Ynwa.

“For me, the word I would describe him with is ‘Liverpool’,”

Rodgers on Gerrard at their awards do.

Your sympathy will bring him great comfort I'm sure.

Mustard, the difference between Hitler and Gerrard is that the latter didn't sanction genocidal atrocities. Not much of a distinction is it? I'm sure if Gerrard had done such a thing Bauer would hate him.

One of them commanded authority over a mass of brainwashed followers, willing to justify increasingly heinous acts in loyalty to misguided ideals of innate superiority and entitlement...

And the other is Steven Gerrard.
