Didn't want to put this in the General Election thread. So here's a thread about The Labour Party.

This article from ConservativeWomen on Chuka Umunna is superb:
http://conservativewoman.co.uk/laura-perrins-stylish-chuka-is-too-old-to-have-a-girlfriend/
There's a website for everything these days. Conservative Women? I might start one about people whose online persona is named after post dinner dairy and wheat based snacks, although it probably exists already.

Anyway, what a bitch.

Oh, and have a like for the thread title.

"the absolute deadline is 35 unless they have only been together for 6 months. Then they get a year. After that it is decision time."

Fuck me, no pressure!

The article is satirical, surely? That's not an actual thing?
I thought that too. I'm more concerned that he's an utter c*** than I am about his relationship status.

Is he an utter c***? I don't know much about him beyond the fact he just looks and sounds like yet another privately-educated New Labour nobody.

That fact alone qualifies his cuntishness. Being serious though, I've seen him on QT a few times and seen him interviewed several times and I'm concerned that he'll want to move the party to the right if he becomes the leader. He won't suffer from the persona problems Miliband did in terms of him appearing to be geeky and incapable. Umunna looks like he doesn't get ruffled easily.

Weird... Perhaps been given some promise of a high position by another candidate in return for withdrawing and backing them?

I imagine it'll be an upcoming Sunday Paper hatchet job.

Not a great set of candidates so far. Watching Tristram Hunt last night made me realise that it's likely Labour aren't going to get back into power easily.

Hunt was depressing on QT last night. I noticed the audience were more receptive to Brian May saying Labour should be more like old Labour than Hunt giving the 'aspiration' rammel.

Labour source (yes I have one) says Chuka Umunna withdrew from leadership bid because of an article in a Sunday paper, & it's "bad".

Whether there's anything in it I guess we'll find out on Sunday.

Burnham on tele this morning, speaking really well as he usually does.

Interesting spin on the financial questions, framing his answers by admitting to allowing the deficit to grow too large in the last decade which meant they couldn't combat the crash (which wasn't their fault) as well as they could have.

Seems to gaining a lot of support in different sections of the party, and seems confident.

He also supports a EU in or out referendum and wants it asap, 2016 ideally. Obviously wants to campaign to stay in.

I find he always struggles when quizzed about private involvement in the NHS though. His claims that the evil Tories are determined to undermine the principles of the NHS doesn't really marry with the fact that he was all for private firms coming in when he was in Government.

Don't feed the troll.

Yeah, I've just noticed another one of his posts which was similar to his post here. My bad.

That is interesting. I don't know a great deal about economics, but from what I've read I was under the impression that the deficit wasn't actually that big? Obviously with hindsight things might have been done differently, but at the time wasn't it reasonable for Labour to be running the deficit as they were?

Assuming all that is true [and I admit it is an assumption], it begs the question of whether he actually thinks that was the case, or is it simply a concession from within the party that they need to be seen as taking responsibility in the eyes of the public?
