I have never met a normal Lib Dem.

Do they exist?

It'll be very hard for them to recover because they are such a marginal party. They sold their entire future down the river for a sniff of power, and didn't even manage to keep their one key election promise in the process.
I don't particularly like the LDs but the "sold their principles for a sniff of power" narrative is a complete pile of shit.

Where to begin..

  1. Snoopers Charter was prevented by the Lib Dems, yet it going to be brought in by Tories.
  2. Kept the Human Rights Act- Cameron wanted to scrap it- was in his manifesto 2010- yet Lib Dem MP's stopped that, but it is going to be scrapped by Tories
  3. Climate Change- Lib Dems stopped the Tories scrapping funding for green energy subsidies but it is now going to be scrapped by tories.
  4. Employment regulations- Lib Dems stopped massive changes to employment law and regulations ( in favour of business owners) which the tories are now bringing back in.
Obviously they were not perfect, some things they got wrong, but they were a minority party in government.

You make good points. I think the LibDems 2010-2015 performance will be judged more positively by history than by current sneering media.

Unless Labou sorts itself out, I can see many disaffected Labour voters switching to the LibDems in the next five years. I can also see the LibDems regaining some of their Scottish seats in five years time, as many in Scotland come to see the Nats as Labour in shiny new clothes.

Lib Dems have approx 60,000 members. Greens have had a massive surge in the past year or so and stand on approx 67,000.

That 67k for Greens doesn't include the approx 10k members of the Scotland Green Party (different party to the England & Wales Green Party).

Tim Farron is quite a rousing speaker.

In what way is Farron a homophobe? He didn't vote for the marriage bill due to certain amendments to the bill which infringed on free speech. Even Peter Tatchell (stonewall) said that voting against that was the right choice.

Are you sure about that? Farron had to apologise to Tatchell (who co-founded OutRage!, not sure he's ever been involved in Stonewall) relatively recently for misrepresenting or "misremembering" as I think he put it, his stance on the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations. I think Farron's position on gay rights is pretty concerning tbh. He abstained on the third reading of the marriage bill - a key vote - and voted against the Equality Act, which prohibited discrimination in the provision of goods and services on the basis of sexual orientation. In both cases it seems as though he wanted conscience clauses to allow people to be exempt if they wished to discriminate on the basis of their religious belief which, at least in the case of the equality act, would rather have undermined the whole point of the legislation. His voting pattern suggests that wherever this conflict arises he believes that religious freedom, rather than a person's right not to be discriminated against, should prevail. I think that's a rather worrying position for the leader of a liberal party to take.

Just does. A lot.
According to the political compass thing I am on the left/libertarian side. I believe a society should look after its weakest members, but those weakest members must be willing to help themselves also. I believe in individual rights, and dislike nationalistic sentiment. My opposition to Islam isn't based on the idea that it is going against British culture or some vague idea like that, it is instead on the fact that mainstream Islam is an illiberal world view. Christianity has many illiberal world views but in this country it preaches things such as tolerance, and accepts democracy. Large sectors of Islam in this country do not- watch Reggie Yates BBC3 documentary on it iplayer.

Farron is definitely in the closet. Thing with Lib Dems is they're very good at nit picking and finding faults but they never ever suggest an alternative or provide solutions. They're stance on the EU a case in point. The country would be better of without em.

Someone cited a Reggie Yates documentary
